Perhaps the closest thing to Kantai Kessen in ship form. I-56 rewards precise and calculated attacks, and has the least margin of error to mistakes compared to other Submarines in WoWS. Ping and homing torpedoes? That wouldn't be necessary.
Oh and it has a controllable deck gun.

Very true in my case, but very entertaing and funny to watch all the same
This gameplay is absolutely possible, it just takes a brain and a bit of planning. The right skills allow you to always come out on top if you plan your engagements. Not only that, but due to brain rotten players suiciding in their subs, your survivability is thoroughly buffed to the point you can make multiple high risk plays, as long as you engage from their blind angle (guns pointing away from you)

@@spinekingjrgensen5779 It's a reference to slingshotting, a way to control planes to avoid AA damage and deliver really accurate strikes. Rather than remove the invincibility frames from aircraft WG just went "Well it's hard so only super unicums can do it and we don't care."

My Experience is usually, I join a Match, loose my Will to live cause it has subs, atart playing and never even seen the enemy sub when match ends and that is every single match

Watching this, I feel like a lot of sub players are over reliant on their sonar ping.
Most of those are the German subs as they meant to be used that way in game. I-56 is better because her non magnetic torps are exelent and the magnetic are just a sec thing.
The moment you learn this, you realize how OP subs can be. However there is also a skill that increases damage if you get two pings on a target, so it's all about learning when to ping and how to time it to get the bonus.
yea, most are, you don't really need it if you're super sneaky (P.S. I-56 is a whale...its not sneaky at all, but its long range Dumb Dumb torps are amazing)
I-56 is different to tech tree subs. It's has long range dumb torps and short range ping torps. All tech tree subs are opposite to that. Also its dumb torps are faster than the tech tree subs.
It has huge detection range compared to other subs (7.1, all other subs are 5.5-6), so it easily gets out spotted by all subs and even most destroyers. Also it doesn't have the submarine surveillance consumable to spot enemy subs, so enemy subs counter it extremely hard.
It's very much a feast of famine ship. If unopposed it can do incredible damage, but it's actually pretty easy to shut down by DD or SS if you know what you're doing.
Its just sub which doesn't need ping, because her ping torps are pointless

I have an I-56 and the thing I could never wrap my head around is how to get this close to the enemy BBs and cruisers while completely by passing the DDs with only 2 min dive capacity
Nitpicked clips aside you pretty much have 2 choices to get past DDs:
- Have a map with enough space to sneak around a cap (assuming nobody has RPF)
- Run them down and shotgun them (A gamble, but also a thrill)
This sub is basically designed to plow a flank and trading its HP.
It PUNISHES second thoughts, so whenever it gets spotted, don't try to escape, instead find a ship to shotgun asap.
Not all game will be perfect, but that wont matter if you do it with a bang.

also you can absolutely abuse the hell out of capacity. start dive, immediately use battery, you ride cooldown on regular capacity, then another battery, now thinking you have 30s left? wrong. before you lose capacity dive to max depth. then warning starts, only THEN you are forced to surface WHILE MAINTAINING full speed and controls. it is around 3m30s dive capacity. and another joke starts when you replenish couple seconds on surface, then to drop max depth and whole warning joke starts again (30s dive time with around 5s replenished). Also capt skill applies
U2501 can have over 6 minutes of underwater time with those "280 units" 4m40s

I wonder why they chose I-56 instead of I-58, a ship that did nothing and got sunk vs a ship that was responsible for one of the most famous ship sinking a of all time and survived the war.

I would prefer I-201. It is insane sub with irl underwater speed of 19 knots. If they will add her to the game, I will return and grind, just to do torpedo shotguns at top tier.
UPD: it would be the fastest WW2 sub, if we don't include small ones.

What I find hilarious is that with 6 tubes with a 35 second reload, if you wait about 6 seconds between torpedoes, you have an infinite stream of them. Just spewing a nonstop stream of the long range dumbfire ones is hilarious, especially at a charging enemy.
How much do we want to bet that after this video becomes popular, and it will, that just like the slingshot drops on CV's way back when, WG will once again go "oh but shotgunning is very difficult, what Yuro displayed is not something the average playerbase can do!" whilst totally ignoring the problem? I'm betting all my Doubloons on it, all 79 of them!
i mean the average player base is a determent to your own teams chance of winning the game half the time. that's a really low bar to set.
I mean considering Yuro is literally in the comments here saying that this video is "nitpicked clips" (not that there's much wrong with that - still entertaining) I don't think there actually is much of a problem (at least not the I-56).
it doesn't take a unicum player to look at a sub that has A) 2 minutes of dive time, b) only goes 13 kts when submerged, and C) literally has no sub surveillance for countering red subs and conclude that it is maybe not a super OP ship.

Get detected, THEN dive. Shotgun, go undetected. RInse, repeat. I've seen one of these tear up a line of camping battleships as they know it's coming and still can't do anything about it. Lol.

If WG really wants to piss off the player base they should add the I-400: the worst of both hated ship classes. Although if they would keep it balanced that would be nice. Maybe make it so it has one launch of 4 dive bombers (yes I know the I-400 in reality carried 3 Seirans, but this is a game where there are 2 dive bombers per attack run) per round or make it so it has to be on the surface to launch and return them.

Somehow that still feels underpowered compared to CVs.
On a more serious note: Doesn't this new class just discourage active play, enforces camping and therefore pushes the game in a direction the playerbase laments about since the games inception? Also, nice vid!

To be fair, if no player want the submarines, then no player would play them, so no one ever met them in battles.
You need at least 2 from every 24 player who want to play them to see them in battle.
And shotguning is a high risk high reward tactic, which lose a huge part from the risk side if the target players are simply dumb, but then again, those players are beaten by every single torpedo DD in the game.
Ping in the other hand has more use than just lead homing torps to you. Ping a ship, and they start panic.. 0 damage tactical victory for you.
