Wow. What a legend
Can you please put a link to 5? I can't seem to find any myself.
Scotty will this work with other wires to? Like for example I got bad speakers than need different wires
Excuse me, what's the proper wire gauge for automobiles like cars and trucks?
i realize I am kind of off topic but does anyone know of a good site to stream new series online?
Thumbnail shows what looks like a t-splice. Never talks about t-splices.
Classic Scotty
Thanks for saving me.some time; scrolling on....
Video saved me money! I'm no car expert, but I was able to reconnect a broken reverse light cable. Now I don't have to spend a small fortune for a mechanic/electrician to do what I just did myself! Great video, thanks!
I just twist the two ends together and put some duct tape or sometimes electrical tape around them. So what if my lights flicker when I hit a bump
Well you might dont care about the ligthting but it would suck when the engine stalls because a wire got loose somerwhere
Same, with the right twisting technique there aint even any problems. And i usually use shrink tubes to proof the connection
The right way is to use a zinc connector. The zinc protects your car wiring. It's called "anodic protection". Twisting and taping is bad. The air has water in it. Your copper wires corrode and will turn black so do it right or plan on your car getting sick from the bad wires.
😂😂😂😂
🤦🏽♀️
Scotty you're the man. Ive been watching and learning from your videos for years now and just recently my Dad found you on CZcams (since he wouldn't listen when I told him) and we both get a lot of important information and entertainment from your videos. You've given me the confidence to do certain things I would've never tried before and you even allow my father to not have such a heart attack when I do attempt things on my own. Recently my tps connector went bad and was wondering how I'm going to wire it in cuz the mechanic wanted $2500 just to replace that and the throttle body !
Scotty I'm so glad I found your Channel! I'm a do it yourself woman and I appreciate you giving me some instructions that will help me fix my car this weekend.
I feel every garage should have a tech like this guy
Thank you Scotty Kilmer, just fixed my headlight that had been out since winter, The electrical socket had burnt out and had to cut it and replace it with a new connector useing this video!
Thank you Scotty Kilmer! You showed the exact connector that I am needing to fix, so now I know the right way to do it. Thanks a million!
@CMLovejoy you check it's resistance with an ohm meter. But try to use the same gauge wire, it's there for a reason.
Good grief, not sure why this popped up for me. A 10-year old Scotty vid. Loved it, great entertainment. Obviously this was filmed while you still had control of your hands! Thanks Scotty!
@cabdolla yes, for external connections, but this was an ignition wiring sub harness that goes inside the car under the dash.
I used these connectors when I was installing an aftermarket radio. I somehow prefer the heat-shrinking connector, so it will seal the connection snug and tight, no water goes in. But they are a little more expensive than the normal connector.
Ok i'm not gonna lie i laughed till i cried when you said "butt connectors" it screams so many inappropriate jokes when immature people hear it lol!
the old jettas like that were well made vehicles. The newer ones are rolling plastic piles of junk as they age.
@5315andrebras depends what's wrong. The cables can snap, or can wear and need adjusting. Most have adjusting nuts on em.
they can break in many different ways, being electronic. Basically any partial use can still work.
Thank you, Scotty, for making life more livable!
@Dicofole if it's an external connection open to the elements, you can do this. But this one goes inside the dash.
Don't you mean you can't lol
Even if I can't currently use the info you provide, I always enjoy your videos, Scotty.
in that case you can get waterproof connectors that cost a lot more, or use these and then seal them with silicone
Do I have to disconnect battery to splice harnesses pigtails wires
@ReclusiarchGrimaldus sure, a short somewhere. I'd start by checking the ignition switch myself, they go bad a LOT in accords.
All videos are helpful a lot, thanks Mr. Scotty your the best mechanic i ever see..
great vid scotty as always,I just got done wiring in a set of KC Offroad lights and 2 additional sets of air horns complete with inlines fuses and relays. :):):):) good stuff scotty! keep up the great work!
I did that on the weekend hiding my speaker wiring behind the rear boot panels. Really hard to connect wires when its hard to see behind panels but i managed! Thanks Scotty
Hey Scotty! My headlights and highbeams went out last night. This seemed to happen not long after I went over a large bump in the road. Could this be a possibility that the wires just got loose and there's a bad connection or something more serious like needing to replace the wiring entirely?
You are the best teacher ever thanks Scotty.
Thanks Scotty exactly what I needed and not a drop more or less
Solder and Son electricians- 'let us get into your shorts!' ;-) Great video Scott!
hi scotty mick from the uk here ,, i have high repect for you ,, but i was told to solder wires useing flux then solder then the dielectric grease dielectric grease between the shrink rap and heat with a lighter untill the grease comes out of both ends
I pulled out the oil pressure sensor wire from the connector trying to change the oil filter on a 02 expedition will this work with a pigtail
Should be on national television and every viewer smiling
great info
@213vatoslocos unfortunately you need a dealer level scan computer to analyze and fix ABS braking systems. Otherwise, expensive parts guessing. Just how those are
Scotty I love your videos and you make me laugh all the time.
got a wiring issue to the starter from the inside of the car on my 02 gt not sure what is the best way to fix it tried twist connectors didn't seem to work. but i also only had smaller wire at the time.
and it goes from a 14 gauge wire down to like a 10 on the connector it connects to.
Hey, great video! I have one question though. Do you know a source for buying the small metal terminal connectors that snap into the plastic specialty automotive pigtail connectors?? Much like the one you used in your first example. In my case I had a wire melt all the way to the connector so splicing new wire isn't an option. So far I haven't had any luck at the wreckers.
great video scotty.
yes, that works too, but better to solder and heat shrink.
Many thanks for your videos, they are always a great help!
This guy is the shit! Great instructional informative videos with both good quality visual and voice, fast and to the point. great personality, makes the videos fun and enjoyable.
my hats off to you sir good videos
thank you for the help! awesome video
I just bought a pair headlight socket connectors (ceramic ones) for my eclipse since the oem factory melted (common in mitsubishi eclipse and galants). So I will just need to splice the wires with the new ceramic connectors right? Thank you
He made me press like with that pose in the back of the truck😂 but thanks, completely forgot to use the butt connectors
Hello Scotty, What could be causing a car to blow the ignition coil? last year it blew 3 of those.
Thanks.
Hands up 🙌 good work thx scottie
I have an f150 2002 truck and i want to know if i could do this to extend the "blinker" wire..bcuz i put the steering wheel up and down n then blinkers dont work when i have the steering wheel low...and i heard its bcuz the wires are too short.
good vid scotty keep up the great work thanks
@scottykilmer love all your videos, keep em coming!
yes, on computer wiring you must use the same exact gauge wiring and solder it together
missing this type of scotty.
Thanks these videos help a lot!
Would you apply dielectric grease to the bare wire before sliding on the connector on the bare wire to prevent oxidation/corrosion ?
Thanks
What if the wires are different colors can I just use any regular black wiring gage? For example, the wires on an alternator.
lol I did this to redo my whole wiring harness for my stereo that the previous owner butchered, works great.
Good video thanks scotty!
Great video .. i was wondering u should do a video on how to diagnose anty lock brake problems i have a lincoln with anty lock brakes and ive changed the brake pump, proportional valve, caliper seals, and brakes but the back brakes dont work at all nor the emergency brakes i stop my car whit the front brakes but i think its dangerous please help thanks
they're at work when I film em
Thanks Scotty!
Nice video Scotty. I think weelgunny makes a good point about soldering too; any chance you can make a vid showing that wire repair method as well?
You're a wise man. You adore Toyota !
I recently re-wired a 63 chevy II and when I turn the key to the lock position the gen light comes on? Im also able to use all of the power accessories...it acts like i have the key in the on position.
Watched this video after the wires for one of my rear blinkers stopped working. Can't thank you enough
Love your videos. Thanks!
Love how loud and to the point this guy is
is the vw in the vid a 1.6 looks similar to the vw bora??
ive actually made entire motor harnesses before using this method. works great on carbed cars, originally i had a wiring harness with 100 or so wires. i think my home-made harness had about 10. so many are just not needed with a carb.
Good Work Scotty, Easy fix, after watching your video. Many thanks. Keep doing more n more videos.
Thank you Scotty I like all u videos
thanks for this. I am going to try and do something similar to my license plate light on my motorcycle. I removed the god awful fender but wasn't sure if I could just splice into the original plug.. need me one of those crimps forsure.
Have missed you much, Scotty!
hey ive got a question hope you can help, ive got a 94 yj jeep with a 6cyl 4.0 engine, it sputters sometimes, thinking it was the ignition system i replace the distributor got new lines and spark plugs...... and it still happens what could it be?
you are the best!!!!
Hey Scotty, is it good or bad to put gas/oil mixture (50:1) that was from a snowblower that is done for the winter in your car?
Thanks
hi also forgot that when loose the bolt to take out the cam sprocket, the cam sprocket kind of jump into position. do you know how i can reset the timing?
Does it have to be the same gauge wire or can you mix and match sorry I know it’s a dumb question but I’m desperate
Scooty does cataclean works for my truck with po420 code is it say it will turn check engine light off
My alternator burnt the terminal cable. Can I use this advice?
Scooty what do you think about cataclean that pepboys sale it say it will turn check engilene off due to catali efficience below treshold is that true
How do you know if the wire is bad?
Can you use different gauges of wire for repairs if you don't have the correct size?
thanks man you are awesome .
Awesome video!
I have to ask: would soldering be a good alternative to fixing wires?
sure, but then you have to seal the solder with wire covering material, and need a lot of room for a soldering iron
Hey Scotty, Nice '72 vette there.
always helpful.
my check engine light came of it was for a knock sensor on a trailblazer. I replaced it then it came on again. do you think i need this done to my knock sensor connector?
+LeMark Wash pray it's just that and not a computer or internal engine failure
Hey Scotty got a question for ya. I have a 1996' Ford Contour SE 2.5litre out of nowhere my car stalled one day and smoke starting coming through the AC Vents (white smoke smelt like rubber) the car would NOT turn on, no dash lights nothing not even with a boost. I took the battery out put it in my other vehicle and its good, the oil was not milky at all and the coolant seemed good. Leaving me to believe that its the wiring harness, how would I go about finding the right wire?
@nomphajvaj you have to take it all apart to reset it, no way out of that.
@scottykilmer hey scotty i just bought a 1993 nissan maxima and it runs real smooth but i noticed two problems once when i revved the engine i heard a scratching grinding sound and the engine light is not on and also it struggles to start sometimes like its not recieving enough fuel but once its on it runs smooth what should i check.
haha badass scotty, love all ur vids man.
hi scotty, i have a 1992 camaro rs heritage edition 5.0L,my turn signals quit working today. the hazards still work, and i dont hear the turn signal flasher. could it be the flasher?
Hey Scotty,
I have an 2004 Audi A4, recently the electric windows have stopped working and the drivers door has to be locked and unlocked manually but all other doors open by central locking, do you have any ideas of what could be wrong?
@MrJDMReviewers that part went inside the car, no worries there. If in a wet zone like under the hood, go ahead and use heat shrink.
You are too dang witty and funny. Did I say you are good? Nope great
get a test light and test all the connections to see if they are or aren't getting full power then
sounds like burned electrical wiring, check under the dash for melted wires, especially the ignition wiring and switch
my 4wd wires in the encoder motor are shreaded from the driveshaft do i just do this or does it need to be water proof
I had brittle wires for the ECT connector that tore off. I bought a new connector and used butt connectors to fix it. Tried it multiple times and no fix. I know I'm doing it right too. Not much to it. I was wandering if there was some reasoning why butt connectors wouldn't work in that situation if any. I also replaced the ECT sensor as well.
@john5246 Is it a ford truck/SUV/Van? If so, it's the REAR BCM (sometimes called the REM - rear electronic module). It's in the back in a compartment behind/under the spare tire jack. If it rains and the back windows are cracked, it gets wet and shorts out.
