    Hi everyone. Yes I see the X pattern. I didn’t talk about it because I thought the test footage was pretty obvious. My sample footage is an unbiased test, and I trust you the audience to decide for yourselves. Personally, I think this filter is good up to 5 stops. 8 stops if you add the 3-stop magnetic filter. I still plan on using it. You are free to decide otherwise, no biggie.

      Hi Brandon this is the great review... But I have a question.. can we add additional filters on top of Revoring VND???? & Also can we add lens hood on top of the Revoring ?? I know they are providing a magnetic lens cap to attach it.. but I doubt this filter got lens treading in front of it other than just a magnetic Frame... It would be really helpful if you can give a reply addressing this things.. it would really help lot of people to make a right decision before investing in this Revoring system... Thankyou.

    Hi Brandon,
    Having been used to the fantastic variable ND on two of my Sony camcorders, I invested several hundred dollars in a variable ND for my mirrorless. It does not have the X problem at full ND, but I had not realised it was polarisation-based. I have had shoots where I got terrible effects when shooting through a window. The latest was flying over a river that looked purple through the lens, as if it was covered in an oil slick.

    For those who want a variable ND without the X, I've been looking for one and finally bought the Aurora Aperture PowerXND Mark II, they have two versions, one with 2-200 and one with 32-2000, I've used them several times now and i have to say, no loss in sharpness, no loss in contrast, no color shift and no X. I can highly recommend those for everyone who's looking for a Variable ND. BUT those dont have a build in CPL! If you want both, its ALWAYS better to have build in ND, and screw on the CPL, OR buy a NP Adapter which is good with CPLs since even an ND Adapter uses only one layer of ND and not two cpls combined (which all variable nd's are).
    Hope I could help some people!

  • @williamaungleyraud
    @williamaungleyraud Před 3 lety +2

    PLEASE READ MY COMMENT BEFORE BUYING.
    I'm glad you got yours, the kickstarter campaign is been a shameful mess, I'm still waiting for mine and I don't expect getting it before March if I'm lucky. But for real I'm so disappointed with the production models, the ones the other youtubers are using seemed more well polished where these production models feel rushed with corners cut to meed global demand.
    For real this is a 5 stop filter and from 6 to 10 stop is a joke, and really I hate H&Y has the shameless face to say you need a solid ND over the vnd to achieve 10 stop polarization, if I knew that I'd just order the ring adapters and skip the VND all together, and for those that don't know that magnetic 3 stop nd is SOLD SEPARATELY, no freebies from H&Y here. And the felt/velvet on the cap, man that's gonna be a dust magnet.
    And please let people know that there are many different size ranges for the VND + cpl filters, they don't need to clamp it all together like you did. There is a 37-49mm, a 46-62mm, a 58-77mm, and a 67-82mm so you buy the one with the range best fit your lenses.
    The Revoring adapter for your current filters is a great product on the other hand, you can continue to use most of your existing filters on different thread lenses. So you don't need to invest in expensive magnetic filters that may drop when running and gunning.
    For those who didn't back on the kickstarter campaign and indie go-go and plan to pre order PLEASE DON'T, H&Y is a reputable company, but their crowd funding is a total mess, I would never back them again, I'd use their products again definitely, but I would 100% wait until it's fully available on major retailers, b&h/adorama/amazon/samy's. I still have no clue if mine will come at all, there are filters being shipped to the wrong addresses and h&y is passing the bucket to the dispatcher company, leaving backers suck it up, nobody is taking responsibility, it's been a regretful experience backing them and even more if I don't receive mine and have to file a charge back with my credit card company.
    And if you think I'm making a drama, on their kickstarter campaign there are backers withing the first 100 who never received theirs and are still complaining just to get a tracking numbers that actually works. And this is a big lesson when considering backing any company on crowd funding campaigns, your money will be held hostage until you ever, if ever you receive your product. It's not worth the discount.
    Last thing to mention, on the kickstarter campaign H&Y claim no vignetting on wide lenses up to 16mm, but backers who got theirs are claiming vignetting as early as 23mm and 18mm, so if you think this will be the answer for your problems for wide lenses please LOOK ELSEWHERE, I shoot with 16mm and was hoping things would be alright since they claimed compatibility, now I'm just hoping to receive my filters and rings at all and will shop for solid filters later.

    • @williamaungleyraud
      @williamaungleyraud Před 3 lety

      Not to be all negative, backed filters should have been shipped since November of last year and the global pandemic obviously impacted everyone so of course I don't blame H&Y for the delays, I hope all workers are healthy and working safely. I hope they may enjoy their new years with their family members.
      I just wised H&Y wouldn't have grown so greedy with this product, most kickstarter backers never received their items and H&Y launched a couples of weeks later another crowd funding campaign on indie go-go which I dare believe nobody got theirs either and now their official website lies about global direct pre-orders shipping from this month of February to major retailers and buyers when backers are yet to see their items every ship out. I'm sure this product will satisfy those who fit the niche and are well made products, but in the middle of a pandemic to be that optimistic on their shipping expectations is misleading.
      Right now as soon as workers workers come back from the Chinese new years, they'll have to be tested for covid and the manufacturer will only be allowed to resume production in small increments as workers get cleared from their covid tests. So we'll have a very slow start, for obvious reasons of course, but H&Y should be forward about that on the media with its buyers, keeping this info to backers who are longer complaining just for the sake of keeping sales is just wrong. I get global economy is a mess and everybody needs money, but to hold people's money hostage when you can't possibly meet demands and deliver the first 100 backers with their products is just bad for reputation and business. They made a mistake on my order and now I'm a 5 digit backer, when the guys at 3 digits don't even have theirs, I'll be surprised if I ever get to receive mine at all.
      At least I hope they keep their workers safe and give them humane environment since covid has already claimed too many lives.

    On another CZcamsrs video it explains that there is a “W” indication on the ring. This is the limit you should turn your filter to if you use a lens wider than 16mm and this will avoid the X pattern.

      The final version has marks for 1 through 5 stops and Max (10 stops). There is a chart on the H&Y website (hyfilters.co) that shows the setting recommended for a given focal length, to avoid the X.

      I’ve been using the magnetic filter above 5 stops. But I think the best solution might be to use a Revoring thread adapter + another VND filter (you can screw in any filter). My Hoya VND does 8 stops with no X mark.

    I have two of these filters coming and after watching this review I fear I have made a disastrous mistake. The X pattern is all through this footage and sample images. It’s horrible! I can only hope that Brandon did exactly what he said he did, and threw together a fast review and didn’t put any thought into talking about the results he got. It’s a train wreck as far as either the product or the review. I guess I’ll find out once my Revorings arrive. After watching this, I’m not happy about it at all. What a mess.

      I feel for you, I was going to order this, but now I will wait. I wonder if the H&Y magnetic holder has similar problems, if using circular polariser and a ND x10 filter, or is it something to do with how variable ND's work. tempted to buy the H&Y 100mm holder and Circular pol instead. I like the look of the rear polariser and magnetic filter holder on the front. I would try to cancel your order, maybe wait see if the X is still there on final product, if it is I think this will be a fail. its a shame as this look like a good product. Confused that the reviewer never referenced the X in his video.

    Hello photo colleagues, if you consider to buy, read this. My previous comment was removed, probably Brandon is H&Y paid fanboy and doesn't want my comment to help other photographers and removing negative feedbacks
    1. The Lock mechanism is total trash and will not stay firmly, it not secure and will suddenly fall , like it happened to me, and I ensured it's very firm when attached.
    2. The X shape pattern on ND is very visible and not usable after ND5.
    3. There are no markings on ND after ND 5 to 10 ND , so you have to guess.
    4. There is grainy pattern when using ND/CPL, compared to my other filters I own(Haida, Tiffen, Hoya).
    The pins to control ND and CPL where supposed to be touched, to control ND and CPL, but every slight touch can lock out and drop the filter . No secure filter system at all. The company did not honor the warranty and didn't want to fix the filters within 1 week of use only. Shame

    Well well well... I can clearly see that sharpness is unacceptable at stacking the second filter! Not a good sign. This renders this thing a toy, not possible to be used at any professional shoot. It's a nice gimmick and will be reported on by many youtubers, but I doubt this will ever and should ever be used professionally...
    Also: If you only have 1 to 5 stop usable ND, you might as well buy one Fixed ND 3 with highquality and adjust Aputure and Iso to get exposure you want.
    Third: Why don't you speak about how easy it is to accidently unlock the filter! Doesn't seem very professional too, and fourth, why do I have a feeling that we won't see youtubers make a long term review about that twist holding strength..
    Any way, good look spending your cash on these and prove me wrong :D
