An IM spends 50 minutes comparing Kasparov and Carlsen to him, making him recall his greatest loss and trying to assert computer superiority and Anand takes it all with the utter grace. Levy's arrogance is astonishing and quite infuriating, but the interview was so incisive that we got a peek at the heart of Anand.
I am pretty sure you get offended when people look in your direction
Utkarsh, this is a Wendy’s
and I don't think Vishy felt the slightest bit of disrespect by his remarks. I think ur just overreacting
@@GothamChess lmfao
Pin of FAME
bro met the legend himself. how lucky is anand
🤣🤣🤣🤣
i laughed a bit too hard.
yeah anand that lucky dawg
you had me in the first half
Hahaha
The dude dedicated his whole life to chess, and yet is SO aware of the world around him and how it has evolved with time.
Truly a wise man
Absolutely!!!
And dont forget that some people would say the same things about Vishy
Yah levy is such a wise man
Unlike Kramnik
Anand is very lucky to meet such a legend
Dont call him "dude" call him "sir"
What makes vishy one of the greatest is not just his quality of play, but also his impact and eloquence when giving his insights.
He is such a gentleman and has is basically solely responsible for the popularity and strength of Indian chess now
I agree but for a superGM (we have 37 right now) he is average
He is the reason india is a chess super power now
@@nouribg172 age is a HUGE factor. It's a miracle he's still able to play
@@nouribg172 Average Super GM? If there's 37 GMs and the median is the applicable average here, the average Super GM would be world number 18th/19th. He is just shy of the top 10 at 11th place and in the last 2 years, despite being over 50, shown that he is still capable of performing well at high-level events.
Vishy is one of the most accomplished yet one of the most humble chess players of all time. Absolute legend of the game.
He is to Chess what Shawn Michaels is to WWE , the youngsters look up to and wanna be like
Anand seems like someone you would meet at a dinner party and say "I'm not sure why, but he seems like a great guy, we should spend more time with him"
tell me one chess player who isnt humble, all chess players arecause they are intelligent as flip
@@jonathandonovan1802 Fischer, Kramnik, Hikaru, even Magnus
@@Ewan-xw3er I'd say Magnus is appropriately humble; he admits to his mistakes and openly talks about other competitions/areas where he is not the best without sugarcoating his level. He is the best in chess currently, saying that outright doesn't mean he can't be humble.
You can see Levy trying to figure out the best sitting position in front of 5 time world champion 😂
Yea
One posture for each championship
True 😂😂😂
And Vishy is rock solid as always
@@anandsinghkol Yea Anand Sir didn't even move from that one solid posture..
Anand is perhaps the most influential person in chess ever. It is crazy to think that he is so important to the rise of chess in India, and India has 3 guys and 2 women in the candidates, dominating the world of chess in many ways.
Great interview, must be fun being a CZcamsr and also having talent as an interviewer. That is not a given.
There's no denying Anand's influence.
BUT
People seem to quickly forget, when they tell you how many great GMs come from India, that almost 1 in 5 humans is an Indian. It's only logical that Anand being a World Champion combined with his country's population would result in so many great Indian players a generation later.
@@MythicosQc74Yes but the thing is, the government does nothing to cultivate sport culture in India compared to countries like USA, Russia, China etc. Anybody rising from India either started off from a super privileged position(obviously extremely low percent of population) or were really that hardworking and motivated. So, people like Vishy are the beacons that keeps the youth motivated to achieve heights.
50 years and still top 20. Vishy is a goddamn living legend, true beast.

Next video: I interviewed Paul Morphy!
“Hi, Mr. Morphy, how many beers would you need to drink for me to beat you”
2
all the beers
Paul morphy: it is you, levy who needs to get drunk to think that you won against me
😂 made my day
We need a Vishy's best moves ever video now.
Excellent idea.
Start with match against Lautier ...it was iconic
yes please
His match against Levon at wijk ann zee
Anand is such a legend. I can't imagine being such a driving force in a sport for such a huge country as India. Mad respect 🙌
Chess is the best. But its not a sport.
@@relaxationmeditation499 Why not
@@relaxationmeditation499I mean they call baseball as a sport.. it is the best and all
You forgot the 'i' in India...😅
He can’t imagine it either, all the hype is artificial, he just played his games and that was that, there’s nothing to imagine?
"My name has been on school textbooks", that's hell of a badass line🔥.
As a new chess fan, I dont know Anand much - but this is the best interview Ive seen from Toronto. Hes well spoken and his experience shines through.
He is 5 times world champion
Brooo at that time before magnus he was like 🔥🔥 and made chess popular. really I only knew him through news but yeah again and again
most sane world champion for sure lol
I'm so happy for him to finally meet his idol, Anand must've been so excited
Anand is his idol?? When did he say that
😂
@@mayankshukla2056read what he wrote carefully, the guy is saying something else to what you've understood
@@mayankshukla2056 you missed the real joke dude 😂😂
Levy is Anand's idol dude. @@mayankshukla2056
What an interview. Anand is so collected and clear in his thinking. So genuine too.
I just feel like it was so human and cute for Vishy to give other players cute nicknames - Vladi, I think someone else was mentioned quite often as well.
Is like all these greats are just his old pals. Just heartwarming.
Absolutely!
kramnik and vishy were friends
I'm a chess casual. 1100 elo. Joined in the chess boom in 2020, perhaps 2021.
This is the kind of stuff that I would never see had it not been for Levi.
Truly changing the game and a massive factor in the growth of chess
The man single handedly made chess a gentlemanly sport and has provided an eternal template for how to just be both nice and tenacious at the same time.
wasn’t capablanca known as the gentleman chess player before vishy was even born.
Now this is a good interview. Anand’s wisdom and experience makes for a much more interesting conversation than any of the candidates interviewed so far. Even Magnus interviews like a wet blanket.
This felt like a real opportunity for Levy to seek some guidance from a mentor figure as much (if not more) as a publicity point borne from the current tourney. I love these sort of conversations; they bring such a human element to what is a game that is now dominated by logic-based systems and over-analysis.
Vishy is the only one who can perfectly describe Gary and Magnus playstyle and why they are so good at it. He have so many stories from the past to tell , absolutely loved the interview.
The man who single handedly made a country with no grandmasters into a chess superpower. Inspired a whole generation!
The greatest ambassador of the game to ever exist. Absolute legend 🙏
he is such a gentleman! always behaves with dignity
Vishy is really just a fantastic ambassador for chess. So down to earth and considerate.
Also has a freaking planet named after him
From teen wiz, to top contender, to reigning champ, to now the wise elder statesman of the game who has still got that fire to win, Vishy Anand is truly a once in a lifetime legend, the likes of whom we won't see again anytime soon. Thank you for this fantastic interview Levy!
I feel like blud is doing Kasparov next..
Levy about to dig Bobby Fischer out of his grave
Kramnik*
Aaahahahahahahahahahahahaha
@@mjkrhthat’s just an hour of hearing him talk of nothing.
Blud? What are you an average Gotham fan?
Probably stockfish too
Excellent interview. Great questions and answers, the conversation flowed and Vishy looked at ease without ever feeling that he had his guard up.
Anand is such a legend. He is the GOAT in my mind, even more than Kasparov.
and magnus?
Magnus isn’t human.
Those comparison is meant for human 😂
I meant for the influence they have and the degree of how awesome they are for the game. Magnus is certainly the strongest player.
More goat than Garry Kasparov.. yeah ok
Anand is an all time great, no doubt about it. He opened the door and led India into becoming a chess powerhouse. In terms of individual chess accomplishments, Anand isn't a GOAT as a chess player compared to Kasparov, but as a human being, he is as good as it gets.
What a fantastic man, so calm and collected. Love to see it
You can just tell how smart he is in the way he talks. So insightful and compelling he can keep my attention for almost an hour.
yea
Finally! The one is was waiting for. Sometimes when I hear other chess players talk about legends, I feel like Vishy doesn't get as much respect as he deserves. I hope it's something that changes with this chess boom.
The south remembers!
What are you saying??... Vishy is widely regarded as one of the greatest chess legends all over the world. Just a few loud voices saying otherwise doesn't count.
@@r0ckyr083I think what he said is true, ppl talk about world champions they bring up Magnus, Kasparov, it seems like even Bobby Fischer gets talked about more. So yeah, Anand gets glossed over more than he should
@Frank74i89 idk what u r saying, magnus, Kasparov and Fischer r talked about more cuz they r the goats, but that doesn't mean that Anand isn't talked about, he's much more celebrated than kramnik, ding and many other World champions
I loved Vishy Sir's answer to your question - "how are you so 'YOU'?". What an eloquent answer!!
its incredible how down to earth Vishy is
for some reason, vishy anand reminds me of gustavo fring...
well spoken, eloquent and polite on the surface, but an absolute force not to be reckon with on the board.💀
Force to be reckoned with*
This was so enjoyable, Levi! Really brings those living legends closer to us. Thank you Mr. Anand for sharing! Hope that podcast is happening sometime!
Fantastic conversation Levy. Thanks for making this and of course the legend Anand himself!
Great interview, Levy!
yoooo Gauri!!
Hey , I thought you are Indian hearing your accent. Are you ?
@@Zuhair_Sadman_MahirHe looks Indian and that can be from any South Asian country but his name is Gauri. He is definitely of Indian origin although he is US citizen, probably grew up there since childhood or took birth there and have Indian parents

This one is my favorite of the interview series yet!
It's so heartwarming to see the amount of respect they have for one another. One of the best interviews I've ever seen.
His accent is annoying
Great interview with a legend. And what a gentleman!
"we're not opposite color bishops, but we're kind of missing each other often"
this analogy is so funny
Vishy's such a real one
Anand was my favorite guest. Such a beast of a human! Please do another one with him. Better yet, get Garry, Magnus, and Anand together on the same podcast. Theres an easy 1mil views.
Vishy is a total class act and, deservedly, has the respect of the whole chess world...
Champion is looking like a normal person. He deserves all that success in his career.
Man everyone gotto admit he is one of the most humble and well spoken chess player ever , also mentioning his influence I mean he was the first GM for India and becoz of him India is kinda powerhouse in world chess . One thing I like about him is that he is never shy about criticizing himself , most Chess players get defensive when they talk about themselve but Vishy doesn't given he is 5 times world campion .
I think he is the most influential personality chess ever had . Also his longevity is incredible , I mean man is still in top 15 given his age .
A absolute legend of the game and one of my fav journey any chess player ever had from becoming first Gm from India to a superstar and later to Elder sage who is now a deputy president of chess association .
Truly remarkable .
levy really you are doing amazing job, really enjoyed watching this
Very enjoyable interview. Listening to Vishy is always a treat.
Fantastic interview Levy, great question and conversation. Vishy is a real treat, it feels like you could listen to him for hours and it never gets repetitive or uninteresting. ❤
Was and still is my favorite chess player. Thanks a bunch for this interview 🙏
Vishy!!! Always a pleasure listening to the legend ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It was a novel experience for me to engage with an interview from start to finish. The way Vishwanathan Anand narrates his experiences is truly captivating, making him an exceptional storyteller.
I have never seen a top level player being so vulnerable and sharing his emotional moments as eloquently and gracefully as Vishy did here. You can see the humaneness, the acceptance, the maturity, the Master Yoda like calmness and wisdom flowing through. Great Interview.
A generational legend who powered chess like no other!!
This was fantastic. Thanks for this Levy
That was by far the best interview, Vishy is just an interesting guy, and like nothing in the conversation never felt awkward or anything, it feels like he was in his element and its great
"If you are the present, the future is very abstract." - Vishy Anand
I watched without pausing, this was one of the best chess interviews by far. Really got to know more about Anand, so thank you very much Levy!
First CZcams video I saw for 50 mins without any break!
Fabulous interview. Really enjoyed listening to it.
A refreshing interview. Vishy was quite at ease and Levy too didn’t take the obsequious route which interviewers often fall prey to given his stature in the chess world. Good job!
What a great interview. Well done
This Anand guy seems pretty good, I could see him becoming a Titled Player or maybe even GM one day
Titled Wednesday 😅
Nah he's too old it'll never happen
wow nobody has ever made that joke before...
maybe if he started training professionally 30 years ago, he could have been a world champion even
He's too young. But maybe one day 😂
The man who got me enthusiastic in chess and the man who revived my enthusiasm in chess together...
the legend himself! the nicest guy you can ever met!
Out of all your interviews, I feel like this one is my favorite. Vishy seems like a very intelligent and wise man. He has many experiences and I feel like I'm actually learning when listening to him recollecting them. Also, great job with the questions, Levy.
Levy never fails to give an interview to chess nerds
THE GOATED COLAB. ANTHER BANGER VID
Let's appreciate Levy for giving us such quality chess content and interviews. I also see many Chess GMs getting annoyed by stupid questions, but Levy interviews are always very interesting because of really good questions that he asks.
loved it. thanks for doing it both!
would add golf is a similar sport in terms of the danger/risk of blunders changing outcome quickly. “you can’t win a tournament on the first day, but you can lose it” is a saying i like. and also of course one bad shot in the end can make all the difference. (spieth at the masters…)
These interviews are awesome. Great job, Levi!
Excellent interview
Easily the most enjoyable interview to watch. Anand is such an amazing person to have in the chess world!
The first ever interview with Anand that i've seen. And he is not only the great player, but also very nice person.
You can tell Levy is just the best interviewer. He not once interrupted Vishy sir. Also mostly because he respects him alot. & you can see his respect not only in his actions but also in hi eyes. Truly your best video yet.
Get Anatoly Karpov next.
Jokes aside, love seeing the interviews and hearing the experience of the giants and knowing they were all once at my level makes me want to do more in chess and reach those heights myself. So thanks Levy.
this was such an excellent interview, levy! he's such an entertaining and refreshing guest, not a single dull moment. saw him relive his life and what a fantastic one it was!
This is one of the best interviews I’ve seen, what a guy anand is. Just an unbelievably humble and cool guy
Vishi Anand..THE LEGEND.
I can listen to Vishy all the time, and I feel amazed how sorted he is mentally and can express his thought process with a great intellect. Great choice of questions from the host.
This is the most relatable, humanizing, interview of a legend I have ever seen. Vishy Anand just feels like a guy you could get a beer with and chat about anything.
Waited all week for this!
Best interview so far, we need the podcast back!
Vishy played this with 100% accuracy 🗿
Thank you Levy for this interview !!! Anand is such a great person and have always been. A role model
Respect for Vishy Anand! Amazing insights on many things which shows he is a much more mature human being amongst the greatest chess players
An hour indeed flew by!
Anand and caruana are the most likeable players they just seem mellow, friendly, and thoughtful.
Articulate, Smart, and just a class act. Definitely one of the greatest to ever play the game. Vishy is one of a kind.
Gotham, a review of magnuses last candidates tournament would be awesome, going through those games
What a treat, thanks for this. 2 legends.
Absolute legend indeed ❤🔥
Vishy really got the coolest and most humble personality out of all the players..Really a genuine guy
Great interview Vishy. I am proud to be a fellow DB alumnus. I am DB 86 living in Ottawa. I have a vague memory in my mind of sitting beside you on the ground, where all the students were asked during sports day. I met you again around 2000 in Madras when you won the sportster magazine athlete of the year. I remember Sunil Gavaskar was the speaker who felicitated you.
This is gold!
Awesome that you’re doing this. Bring back the podcast!!
yes this is the one i was looking forward to
Vishy is even more of a legend in india than people realise. We have literally read him in our history and GK books! Before the pandemic he was like a God-like figure for us.
