those pen poles the best ones are the regular reels I had a couple of those I had one just like that and it was a piece of junk but the regular little reels that come on some of them they work great
Would keep an eye on the two lower cylinders. As you said sometimes they will show very little signs of having cracked ringlands. The intermittent smoking can happen as the broken part of the ringland moves around under the ring.

I had the same issue on my B we did leak down test changed valve seals and the whole time it was 1 of my cams gears not torqued correctly🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 but b and k are different
