as an Irish man myself it puts a smile on my face when noel says "from the Republic of Ireland, be upstanding and show respect for U2" always loved Noel!
U2 reinvented themselves in 2000 with that album and image and they garnered themselves a new generation of young fans.....i remember thier last GREAT tours of Elevation and Vertigo and most of the audience were Teens-30s - thats impressive for a band then in their 40s!
Best part about that video is how ant and dec are casullay pushed aside to let the musicians speak. nothing against those two boys, but they become insignificant once noel comes on the stage. and as soon as u2 are out its game over for them. again nothing against them but by the end of this clip its hard to remember who was on stage at the start
Outstanding contribution to British music... Only problem their Irish, not British.. Next it will be Cantona was a great englishman, Columbus came from London and Neil Armstrong was a Surrey man
gary im irish and i think you misinterpret it - its a British Awards show and the award is for contribution to the british music industy and to be fair lets not forget it was the brits that gave U2 their big break along with THin Lizzy and so many other bands.....Phil is famous for saying if you want to make it you need to leave Ireland....not much has changed to be honest!
4theloveofRob Not a chance, you mad?fucking heros who do you like? let me guess, mumford and sons, kings of leon or pearl jam or green day, absolute rubbish, i saw Oasis play their last gig in Ireland in Slane and it was out of this world.

Calm down, they're the presenters. They know when to step aside.
Kieran Timlin Too true... Great comment.
Where is the performance of Beautiful Day and Until The End Of The World on CZcams? It was sublime.
@H Kay Thankyou so much. I had totally missed this
The A1 comment was so funny, all those boy and girl bands were a couple of years flash in the pan
I respect a1.But in 2001,no way they could beat Craig David.
