"My wife [Sara MacDonald] kind of treats my job like an 11-year-old who's just learned to play the guitar," the singer-songwriter told Rolling Stone last month during a Los Angeles listening party for his new High Flying Birds LP, Who Built the Moon? "So when I'll come home all excited and say, 'Fuck, get on this! [excitedly strums], she'll go [condescendingly], 'Awww, did you just write that? It's nice! It's good. It's good.' … My daughter's pretty much from the same school. She's like, 'Ahh, yeah. Is that you? It's good, it's good.' 'I wasn't asking your fucking opinion, but thank you very much.'"
Gallagher even recalls MacDonald shooting down one of his most beloved solo songs, 2011's "AKA... What a Life!," after he played her a piano demo and floated the idea of Madonna singing on it. "Like a dick, I said to her, 'I could hear Madonna singing that song.' Honestly, the look she gave me sent shivers down [my spine]," he recalled. "She went, 'Madonna…will not be singing that fucking song.'"
The rock star noted that it took his wife almost two decades to fully appreciate his work, though Who Built the Moon? finally converted her to fandom. "I was listening to this [record] months ago, and she kind of burst in the room and said, 'Is this you? It's fucking brilliant!'" he said. "And I went, 'Finally! Fucking finally. I've only written about six songs about you over the last 18 years, for fuck's sake."

Songwriters need to select partners very carefully and may want to avoid them altogether. Cramping the creativity is the kiss of death. That’s what groupies are for - to keep your spirits up so you can work at your highest level. Jealous, unappreciative wives with fears of abandonment are extremely common; especially where celebrity is involved..
The worst thing you can do is have someone praise every little accomplishment without letting you know their honest opinion. It's doing a disservice to yourself and keeping your head in the clouds and not facing reality. You don't need approval to become great

Noel is a great story teller thats what makes him a good writter. Unfortunately you cant top anything you did when youre on drugs. Creativity just isnt there anymore when you quit. Perfect example would be eminem. God damn i miss drugs though
Nonsense. Drugs ruin creativity. They affect judgement. Be sober with people on drugs and they'll tell you how wonderful they were. Record it and play the reality back to them.
Drugs fool people into thinking they're creative.
That's why the first two albums are usually the best. They weren't doing drugs, or had done very little. After they start doing drugs they struggle to write songs as good as the first two albums.

Drink or drug users think they had a great night, but if you watch them and listen you'll be bored or embarrassed by them.

I'm not saying that reducing inhibitions doesn't open people, but Noel wrote his best songs sober. Listen to him talk about the first two albums, sober writing during work breaks etc.
Like everything in life too much of anything is bad and can ruin a life. A little bit of it is not bad. you just said it yourself either they do very little drugs or non during the first couple album is great. Its when they abuse it that it becomes a menace. It doesnt fool you to being creative. It just give out more of that creative side in your brain just like a boost. But once you abuse it you know what happens. Its the addiction that really fucked you up. weed and a little bit of coke is my drug. Im fine with abusing weed but i am very wary about over using the coke maybe once or twice a month it depends really on whats happening that month. I know it doesnt make sense to you. But if you ever happen to try which i doubt it which is actually good which i highly recommend weed and dont bother with the other stuff. Just dont lose to it. Life is too good to get beaten by drugs. If your mind and heart is weak dont even bother. You will surely lose to it. I do it for fun not because i need it.

Stupid, weak, crazy and bad people are already what they are before and after drugs. Yeah drugs can degrade your brain but that wont happen til your old like everything else. Thats the only real drawbacks of drugs and addiction.

The classic problem for creatives when showing people their art in the early stages is that they can fill in the gaps and see the potential. There is an optimism that's needed in the process when making art. Non-creatives take it at face value, so it doesn't surprise me that he gets hit with stone face.

I don't think his wife sounds very supportive of his music, its like everything is meh to her bar one song. Sounds like my artist ex who would say my surrealist art is OK, not bad, needs work, clumsy, everyone does that, especially when anyone said it was fantastic, imaginative etc. He was a major control freak, and liked to he said cut me down to size.
I'm not saying everything he does is magic, to coin a song, but she could offer more constructive comments than that. I could be wrong, and I know he's joking about it, but she just sounds like my ex, a reasonably well known artist.
