Ugh, too many comments about how Noel said he "didn't want to be a solo artist" and "how many special people change"... wah-wah.
I don't get how people can't understand that it is normal for people to change their minds about things. Noel left after an argument, plain and simple. It's happened to other bands before and will happen to other bands in the future.
So many Oasis fans can't seem to grasp the fact that things don't always remain the same. The band was together for 18 years. That is a long time.
Any of you exactly the same as you were at 15? 20? 25? Have you never changed your mind before about anything major in your life? Been in a relationship with someone that you thought you'd be with forever, then after years it ended?
Noel - all the times during Oasis - never could have imagined leaving the band. That's WHY he said he didn't want to leave/never saw himself having a solo career.
He didn't have a crystal ball. He didn't know what was going to happen that would make him leave Oasis.
Appreciate the fact that both Liam and Noel are still making music and stop the whining. Every comment section of Oasis-era Noel is the same.
I miss Oasis too, but I also get that life changes.

Noel Gallagher is one of the coolest rock and roll stars ever. He has never changed and always remained true to himself.
I went to this tour in 2001 in Virginia and it was a great tour. Both bands were exceptional and on top of their respective game. Mainstream radio stopped playing Oasis around 98 so by 2001 they were no longer in the public eye, but have always had an extremely strong and loyal fanbase. There were more Black Crowes fans at this show than Oasis fans but at the end of that concert everyone was singing the praises of Oasis and saying how they stole the show. A live Oasis show was such an awesome experience and I'm forever grateful to have seen them live a dozen times.

Very perceptive comment. It's the reason why, even if I had the chance, I never would have wanted to meet him. I saw a video recently where he was answering fan questions and the rate that put-downs tumbled out of him was depressing. You're talking to fans, the power is ALL in your hands, and you use the moment to tell them to give up their aspirations ,to grammarNazi them. What boost do you get from monstering people who you have total power over? I don't know I only know what I saw. Him making anyone nervous is not surprising, especially now.

I don't know how Noel can say songs like "I Hope, I Think, I Know" , "My Big Mouth", "It's Gettin Better Man" , "Be Here Now", and "Do You Know What I Mean" are crap songs. All those songs blow me away every time I hear them.
Yeah, I know the first track is basically a slowed down chord progression of "Wonderwall" and the intro is too long, but it's still brilliant. "Don't Go Away" is obviously not an original song idea and why it was a single I'll never know (the worst single choice of all time). The other songs are not crap either with "Fade In-Out", All Around the World (written in 1992 or 1993)", and "Stand By Me". It's almost as if Noel uses the Be Here Now album as his outlet for being frustrated about that part of his life and career with heavy drug use, fake friends, and egotism. Be Here Now is his punching bag for the disappointments and frustration of his life at the time. Just my theory.
I'm also surprised in 2001 or 2002 (the time of this interview) that Noel likes the album SOTOG better than WTSMG. But I'm sure his opinion has changed since this then. Being very opinionated also means your opinions change a lot. It comes with the territory.
I think Noel's best guitar solo after "Live Forever" and "Supersonic" is "Do You Know What I Mean." It's simple, clever, and adrenaline-inducing all at the same time.

Don't really believe him regarding the BHN period. I reckon quite a few of the songs were written years before. Maybe they were "finished off" around that time.
I think he partially slates it b'coz it wasn't as successful as WTSMG & coz artistically it didn't reach the heights expected. You can tell they tried though.

    • @JasonJayJJ1
      @JasonJayJJ1 Před 6 lety +3

I agree, for example most people don't know that "All Around the World" was written before Definitely Maybe was even released. It never made the early albums b/c he wanted that song to have a giant string section in the studio and couldn't afford it before the first 2 albums were made.
"Do You Know What I Mean" had to be at the very least in rough draft mode during the Morning Glory tour b/c it's almost the exact same chords and progression with a slower tempo to hide the similarity.
"Don't Go Away" is almost exactly like The Real People "Feel the Pain" from 1992. He probably had that song idea laying around for awhile.
I like Be Here Now better than WTSMG b/c it's more upbeat and less bluesy sounding. I'm still blown away by "It's Gettin Better Man" and 'My Big Mouth" and "Be Here Now". The anticipation and hype for the follow-up to WTSMG tainted how good the album actually was in and of itself.
