Stam Fine looks at the 1994 movie Street Fighter: The Movie, which is based on a 1991 game called Street Fighter II, which is a sequel to a 1987 game called Street Fighter. Got it? Jean Claude Van Damme stars as Colonel Guile, along with Kylie Minogue as Cammy, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li, and Raul Julia as M.Bison.
Written and Directed by Steven E. de Souza, Street Fighter spins a yarn about some despot wanting his own fight club while he's blackmailing the world. - Zábava
I remember watching this in the theatre 🤣 My God my taste in movies was pathetic. I enjoyed watching Kylie Minogue however 😏
well, i can't fault you there.
Very true! She was a saucepot alright! ;)
No matter the flaws this movie still kicks ass..no pun intended. And to see Kylie Minogue as Cammy was a delight even though we never get that one piece suit underwear. 🤗
Ironically, when Van Damme essentially played himself in JCVD, his acting really was on point.
I'll save time and just type VD- VD is itching to be taken seriously.
Worth a like for the karate practice line near the end at the very least! 😆😆
bit of a guilty pleasure, especially as a Bison player.
Love how your reviews suggest appropriate contexts whereby even the least lauded movies can still be enjoyed. Great work, as ever.
Thanks. Having scrolled through dozens of 90's martial arts movies on Amazon starring Van Damme and other kickboxer types, SF is probably one of the least worst.
Raul Julia nearly single handedly carried this Street Fighter film. It was like no one told him he was in a bad movie and he gave it his all. Every scene with Bison was great.
JCVD sadly phoned it in as Guile. Hes one of my favorite action stars but even watching this as s kid, he felt watered down compared to his other movies. I will say that the casting for Chun Li was perfect. Cammy was also decent.
Street Fighter is one the firm 'So bad, its good' type movies. Which i enjoy alot better now than i ever did watching it at release.
I won't hear a bad word against this movie, as long as you go in knowing it's ridiculous it's a grand old time. Raul Julia deserved better for a final role but he looks like he's having the time of his life so no regrets xD It's a classic to riff on. And his speech "I'm gonna kick Bison's ass so hard, the next Bison wannabe's gonna feel it!" is awesome xD
I would like to see additional content warnings added: "Warning: mild language, violence, a bit silly but great after a few beers."
If you want to see another movie with Raul Julia joyfully hamming it up, I suggest "Moon Over Parador" which also starred Richard Dreyfus
He was given one weekend to write the script and told every character from the latest version of the game had to be in it, that is why the script is the way it is.
I heard Kylie Minouge and Jean Claude had a thing going on when filming this movie. 😁 and I had forgotten Ming-Na Wen was in this.
This is a guilty pleasure movie.
It's really good as long as you don't take it to serious.
Also, if the earth is round, how come maps are square?
evidence!
Zangief in this is Chip Shrek from Batman Returns.
Its a goofy colourful bit of fun with a great over the top performance by Raul Julia. Plus you get to see Kylie Mynogue, not to mention Ming-Na Wen as Chun Li. Not going to win any awards but a bit of a laugh if you switch your brain off.
I saw this in the cinema back then and kinda enjoyed it. It's pretty campy but at least fun and doesn't take itself too serious. Along with Mortal Kombat one of the better videogame adaptations.
Kylie Minogue is hot tho..
I guess I'm in the minority that prefers to watch Street Fighter over Mortal Kombat. I own both DVDs so I have that option. It's one of my favorite movies of all time.
Any of the background music covers that you did??
sorta but not entirely.
I'm glad you watched it so I can continue to never having done so, lucky, lucky, lucky I should be so lucky.
we are a public service. Kids, stay in school. Belgian kids, hit the gym.
We didn't like it because it was based on the USA cartoon, in which Guile is the main guy and Ryu and Ken are mischievous kids essentially.
The best SF film is the manga.
Reeeh-you
This films bad but worth watching for Kylie in that outfit mmmm, the manga movie was what this shouldve been
"I'm not a huge fan of martial arts movies"
Get out.
The way that you artificially extend clips by reversing them when they reach the end is REALLY noticeable and irritating. Even speeding them down to 90% would work better, if absolutely necessary.
This is one of the movies that's just really bad it's not good or fun 👀 Mortal Kombat is much better a bad movie
Terrible movie. Awesome soundtrack album (if you enjoy early-to-mid 90s rap music). See also "Judgment Night" and "Highschool High."
