It was Tuesday - Street Fighter 1994

- Chun Li (Ming-Na) antagonizes her captor, General M. Bison (Raul Julia) in this 1994 video game movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. This is the greatest scene in this god awful movie. "... but for me, it was Tuesday."
- Komedie
I love how he has a hat for drinking in the evening. That man is pure class.
lol
I mean, he is Raul Julia
Did you notice how every frame had a different one and he was never seen without them
Wait, everybody doesn't have a drinking hat??
David Cook
Lol. We never see him switch hats during this scene, but I also like to think that Chun Li hadn’t seen the switch either. And he wears a transitional when he switches to another hat.
One of the most savage moments in movie history. But for Bison, it was only Tuesday
It was actually Wednesday then...
Wednesday Addams...
In all seriousness-that is how a real dictator thinks
I've always wondered whether it was actually a Tuesday, he did remember, and he was just toying with Chun-Li to humiliate her, or whether he just picked Tuesday out of thin air.
I said something similar to my ex. She left and I said. The day you left was the greatest orgasm of your life. For me it was Tuesday.
Chun-Li: You killed my father.
Bison: Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down?
Dat is from Batman Beyond.
@@langbo9999 I remember it from the Star Wars Marvel comic in which Luke first meets Vader face to face.
Luke: "You killed my father."
Vader: "I have killed many fathers in my lifetime, You'll have to be more specific."
I killed my father too, and you don't hear me whining about it!
funny how i went from that video bc someone from the comments' section had quoted this clip from the movie XD
“I killed my father and you don’t see me whining about it”
"How did you know it was Tuesday if you can't remember?" "I always raid on Tuesdays"
I think the same thing.
Lol I want to comment it
He says Tuesday with the meaning that it was just a regular day like any other. That doesn’t mean it actually happened on a Tuesday, he simply forgot about her little village because raiding is what he did 7 days a week.
Ah yes, raids and taco tuesday.
Days of anticipation followed by hours of wiping.
@@CoderDBF Bingo, there are a lot of literalists out there though as this comment section proves.
Raul Julia is the reason I can still watch this movie. He knew he was dying. He knew his kids would love to see him in this movie. He brought them out with him, and when he filmed, he hammed it up and had fun with every second he was on-screen. A class act 'till the end. We miss you, Raul.
*****
he was extremely sick. He knew he was dieing. He wasn't sure when tough but he knew it would be soon.
***** Raul Julia in Desperado.. Can only imagine how awesome that would have been.
It's a sad, yet very heartwarming thought indeed.
And yet, I can't help but wonder about the Street Fighter movie with Raul Julia we could've gotten if the writers and director gave a shite.
Raul Julia as Oro? :P
*****
I'm pretty sure he knew he wouldn't last much longer. He was already suffering from Stomach Cancer, hence his gaunt and pale facial complexion
“It was a joy to be on the same set as him,” says [Robert] Mammone. “He wasn’t a movie star, he wasn’t a celebrity - he was an actor in the true sense of the word. The focus and concentration he maintained are things that I’ve carried with me for the rest of my career. When he stepped on set, he was that character.” Seth, too, has fond memories. “He used to sneak out at night like a tomcat,” he says. “He would go off gambling with a big Havana cigar clenched between his teeth. I thought that was terrifically romantic.”
Going all out, like only he could.
The day M.Bison got confirmed for Street Fighter V was the most glorious day of our lives

Apothecary2 WELL EXCUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSE ME, PRINCESS ;)
BISOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!! For me it was TUESDAY!
YES!!!! YES!!!! IT IS DELICIOUS!
... is it wrong of me to actually consider this a great scene, not just in the context of this movie, but also in general? The way Chun-Li tries to taunt him and belittle him, and then Bison basically replies "and why do you think I would actually care?" So good!
And Chun-Li is handling it pretty well all things considered.
No, because it really is a great scene for the exact reasons you mentioned. Bison's comeback was beautifully executed. Of all the ways he could give zero shits, he picked the best way.
No, it's a pretty great scene.
Ant yet there's subtlety, bacause Bison did remember it was tuesday. Or did he just made up that day?
Maybe tuesday is the "village-grace day"
The best thing about this scene is that Bison is 100% sincere. He's not trying to mock her or taunt her and he's not lying either, he's just genuinely sorry that he can't remember any of it.
It makes Bison both more forgivable and more detestable. He's evil for sure, but he isn't aware of any of it. It's just business, nothing personal.
@@howlongisnow791 : to a deer, the day the lion pounced on the deer's mother' killing and eating her... it's the most important day of the deer's life, utterly life changing for the deer. But for the lion? ...It's just lunch. ( so-so taste too, nothing special )
Bison is one of thse tyrants that, even if he views everyone as disposable? Does genuinely want to take in the bredth and scope of the corpse pile he's built to get there. Egotistical, narssicistic, psychopathic... But he does want a certain level of respect to those he feels are worth it, and the lady there has a measure of that respect if only for the effort she put in.
I don't think so, Bison was definitely mock her for being so serious at a event that he don't care about. Bison was not a character that would be "genuinely sorry" at others.
@@windflier1684 I mean he did have that back pocket retort on hand but he did seem to genuinely respect the effort put in. He is a narssicist so he would take that as 'look at the lengths people will go to over ME.' Any concern or sincerity is only in relation to the fact everything comes back around to Him.
I love that he sincerely seems sorry that he can't remember any of her story. Like, he's watching her recount the most significant, traumatic day of her life, and he's genuinely regretful that he can't even give her the catharsis of it being important to him.
The dude is downright polite. He's listening to her, while changing his jacket, his hat, and makes her a margarita.
He's a benevolent god.
Best villian for a movie. IMO even if he's basically future Stalin he really wants to at least give humanity to his foes.

This is the best revenge scene in a film ever, because it shows how unimportant your revenge is to the person who wronged you and explains why.
indeed. To a person without conscience, the story is not important.
IF you want to truly convey your feelings you have to deliver it straight to the heart.... with a deep stab.
I still say princess bride was better on the whole as it gives Inigo more to work with and we see count rugan as a veyr cold person.
However that movie in total is amazing where this? These are perhaps the only two good actors in the whole thing so this scene in isolation is just that little bit better.
@@gendoruwo6322 its not a matter of conscience its a matter of volume and assigned importance
Bison must have done hundreds of raids and killed thousands of people. How could he remember one man? He probably wasn't even there, he just send an order

A villain with class and style, that'll put Fulgrim to shame.

The guy who played M. Bison was the saving grace of this movie. He turned this movie from a POS to So Bad, It's Good.

I salute him and may he rest in peace.
It's always interesting when an awful movie has a legitimately great scene in it.
+Ross McLean I mean, the folly work is oddly high in the mix, and the change in audio when it cuts to the "It was Tuesday" is unfortunate. But Raul Julia is so great and the juxtaposition between Chun Li's speech and Bison sauntering around and changing into his evening general gown is SO GOOD.
The best line EVER in the one of the worst movies ever.
There's nothing more to say after that.

One of those moments when the hero was devastated by destruction the villain has caused and wants revenge. The villain doesn't remember ever facing you or doing the destruction because he did many evil things in his life. Just another day, another victim.
6 years later I know but I'm pretty sure this line indirectly inspired Thanos line of dialogue between him and Scarlet witch.
"You took everything from me."
"I don't even know who you are."
Or Darth Vader's (in a comics I think):
"You killed my father."
"I've killed very many fathers, you'll have to be more specific."
Thanos:I don't even know you!
His delivery is so perfect in conveying that not only does he have no remorse, he doesn't even care enough to remember.

Everyone talking about Raul Julia, and he is undoubtably amazing, but let's not undersell how great Ming-Na Wen is here too. Her face is absolutely perfect, there's no other reaction to him just underselling her entire backstory like that. She's just gobsmacked and speechless over his lack of giving a s**t
She's alright telling the story but her reaction shots are garbage.

He had so much fun being that villain, despite everything he was going through he made the most of every second he was on film.
No piece of scenery unchewed, no scene left without him hamming it up.
He was dying. This was for his kids. It was time to clear the smokehouse.
This scene is actually pretty good for a bad movie.
The hero spend years searching the villain who ruined his life, he tells his sad story and his reasons before the final countdown and THEN... ! He don't remember any of that.
All the blood, sweat and tears spilled just to know your sworn enemy doesn't even known you or remember you, neither what he did.
Not to mention, he seems genuinely sorry that he CAN'T remember it. That he can't make it this big cathartic moment for you. That... is a villain.
@@leothewhiteranger
Plus, the implications he has done so much pillage, crime, murder and destruction he cannot even recall an event like that...he's such a villain a traumatizing raid for somebody else is just another office day for him.
There's so much to love about this scene.
The dumb portrait of Napoleon with Raul Julia's face painted over it.
Bison's rack of almost identical hats.
The three moons and ridiculous glowing red Vs in the background.
Chun Li's gesture when she says, "small".
The giant black flaming skull fireplace.
The shrine made of swords and assault weapons.
The random bull horns awkwardly placed in the middle of the room.
And of course Bison's killer line at the end.
I like how Chun Li is telling her tragic backstory and Bison is just chilling.
'Oh no I'm listening. Please go on. I don't want to seem rude, it's just been a long day.'
Man, Bison and Zangief made this movie good. Raul Julia gave Bison some serious psychotic charisma...and Chris Bryniarski was perfect as Zangief.
"Quick, change the channel!" and this scene are solely that which make watching this movie worth the time.
ryu, chun li, sagat and van damme were also good !!!!
"You got... paid???"
His performance in this movie spoke volumes on how good his acting was. The sad part is he could not give the role the 100% that we all know he is capable of. He was already very ill during the filming of this movie which did have an impact on his overall performance. The movie would of still tanked but if he was fully healthy for the role, he would of taken the M Bison character to a totally different level.
I think it had less to do with his health, and more to do with the cheesy script. He did outstanding with what he had to work with, but it truly would have been outstanding had the script been better.
This is unironically is a good scene. The somber music in the background as Chun tries to belittle her captor, only for Bison to basically say that all that was just a regular day for me, nothing worth remembering.
Raul Julia's body language and expressio nthough does make it clear he is putting in effort to try picking that event out. then mentally shrugging.

Watching this movie, you wouldn't know he was dying. It was a video game movie and he gave the role all the dignity he'd give any other project.
It was because he was dying, and it was for his kids.
For that reason if no other, he selected his finest ham.
I remember Leonard Maltin saying the 1994 street fighter movie was the worst movie ever based on a video game.
Then he reviewed the legend of Chun-Li and said it made the original look like CITIZEN KANE.
Wow!
+Eric Stevenson I'd have to disagree with Maltin. Pretty much every other video game movie takes itself seriously. Blood Rayne (Uwe Boll, what do you expect?), Doom, Super Mario Bros., pretty much all of them try to be serious and fail. Same goes for almost every other video game movie out there.
The 1994 Street Fighter didn't even try. It threw out absurdities and epic lines fairly consistently the whole way through and even managed to scrape together a somewhat reasonable plot, even by action movie standards - and well beyond that of other video game movies.
No, it doesn't try to keep the characters consistent with the games, no, it doesn't try to take itself seriously, and no, it's not going to be ever considered a masterpiece... yet over a half dozen of my favourite lines of all time come from that one movie.
...But I guess you didn't SEE that, did you!? =P
Really though, as video game movies go, the Street Fighter movie is seriously one of the best. Yes, it's cheesy as hell, but that's kind of what they were going for since they knew there was no way to make a SF movie that was serious and didn't suck. So they didn't try. It's "bad" in the way a bad pun is "bad" - it's SUPPOSED to be bad. That's the whole point. It's consciously aware it's bad and revels in it.
And those reviewers who call it a bad movie have therefore missed the whole point. Fortunately for them, there's a solution:
Quick, change the channel!
+Catreece MacLeod I agree, I could care less what people say about this movie. I loved it as a kid and have literally watched it over 70+ times. I've memorized almost every line. I was obsessed with street fighter as a kid lol

I doubt that you are right, he stood out just as well in Addams Family and that one IS a great movie
The way Bison acts throughout the whole scene is hilarious in a dark way to me. Also that Bisonparte portrait is hilarious LOL. Mr. Julia did a great job of acting as M. Bison and from what I`ve gathered, this was his last movie before his death by an illness. The dude knew his life was going to be over soon but he chose to keep going on & give a show so spectacular it became one of the only few reasons people bothered to sit & keep watching the disastrous movie
throughout the whole scene he is like ``ok ok go on `m listening, just lemme change my uniform, change to my special cap for drink time & get some drink `` then he` like ``sorry I tried but I don`t remember a single part of that day except that one goon who forgot to bring his gun. Yea, worst day ever I guess``
It fits with his delusional train of thought, his introduction of bison dollars for example and angering sagat (his key ally for that!)
In a sense him being a walking fantasist makes him dangerous, not for having a army to begin, but he was willing to push forward super soldiers like blanka. Not Shakespeare of course but it carries the narration of bison twisting his actions in a sense of a greater pursuit of good.
@@worldofthought8352 Man, delusional villains are always great when pulled off properly. How far he will go to realize his fantasies is what makes him so dangerous in this movie. And of course Julia`s acting is cream of the cake for that.

Probably a lot more accurate than most movies, where the bad guy actually remembers the murdered family member amongst all of his victims.
The way I see Raul's Julia's Bison. This is pre psycho power bison before his powers consumed his mind and made him pure evil. Before the psycho power he was charismatic leader dictator. Everything you see in the movie is what bison was before the psycho power. The end of the movie when bison hand comes up from the rubble is when he discovers his inner psycho power and after that the Bison we see hear is nothing but the embodiment of pure evil.

Can't knock a man for having a hat for all occasions. Plus swapping out for a frehs one while he's winding down with a drink with his (involuntary) 'guest' is a perfectly sensable move.
The flaming skull fireplace and monument of guns is a bit much though.
Raul Julia was amazing as Bison lol
And he alone turned the movie from an unwatchable POS to So Bad, It's Good.
Alright everyone's talking about how awesome this scene was (rightfully so), but nothing about how Chun Li proceeds to kick the crap out of him in the next scene, forcing him to retreat.
I concur.
This movie might had been bad but at least it was one of those "So bad it's good" movies and you could still have some laughs watching it with some friends and never taking it seriously.
Legend of Chun-Li? Now that was an awful movie you couldn't even laugh at it.
So true.
"A hero at a thousand paces" is an underrated line from this movie
Can you imagine he just picked a random day because he could care less
He probably did.
When I was 12 or whatever I misunderstood this quote. I thought he just really fucking loved Tuesdays and he was just expressing how much he loved that day of the week.
Damn. 30 yrs later and she is still stunning.
Back then = Chun-Li of Street Fighter
Nowadays = Agent Melinda May of S.H.I.E.L.D.
=D Long live our Ming-Na Wen !!!
Holy shit, they're the same woman? God damn, no wonder she's such a badass.
She also plays Fennec Shand in The Mandolorian and The Book of Boba Fett
I'm amazed Raul didn't break his back carrying this movie.
I want that bison painting so bad gonna find a a really good artist to duplicate it and hang it in my living room.
*cries* Thank you.Randy Vellacott
Me too! I've searching it without success :(
Randy Vellacott You are a hero.
The way Chun Li reacts to Bison's 'Tuesday' makes me suspect that it wasn't, in fact, a Tuesday.
For you, the day you stormed the streets of New York in protest was the most important day of your life.
But for me, it was Tuesday.
Still can't get over the "Surprised Pikachu Face" of Chun Li 😂😂😂
this scene alone could legitimately be in a marvel cinematic universe movie and it would fit in perfectly
Today is the 20th Anniversary of the release of Street Fighter: The Movie. Ironically, today is Tuesday. :P
Today that day was important to the people who liked that movie. But for me, it was Tuesday.
Never gets old. It was Tuesday. LOL
Raul Julia. Damn, we lost a great one.
I must admit some scenes in this film are really cool including this one! Ming Na and Raul Julia are brilliant as their characters!
I have always appreciated this scene. Though it was in a terrible movie, I have always liked Raul Julia and Ming Na Wen. And I loved the psychology into the view of both characters. Origins between hero and villain, how is shows how the hero is created by the actions of the villain -- and the relative importance of those actions in relation to each other. To the hero, as Raul Julia states, this event is the most important and defining moment of her life. However, for the Bison character, this same action isn't significant, because it is lost in a blur of numerous actions that has become routine and ultimately forgettable. Bison isn't even denying his involvement, he explains why he doesn't recall the event. For Chun Li, she was stunned by her father's death as something routinely ordered as an afterthought.
I can't get over that reaction from Chun Li. LOL
