- Y2J Chris Jericho, the very first Undisputed Champion. I mean what can I say. He beat The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin in the same night. So for that alone, Chris Jericho had a memorable title reign. Unfortunately though, Chris Jericho was booked like a chump. He was paired with Stephanie and that basically destroyed his main event push. Despite this, I do enjoy this title reign. Jericho goes out there with those two belts and he's showing off, it was awesome. And who can forget when lets the fans touch the belts only to pull it away at the last second. Wrestlingspremier to be honest I felt like the company wasn't all the be hind him. He was just a heel champion that the company needed to have face triple h to beat at wrestlmania 18.

Chris Jericho was the middle man. It wasn't about him vs HHH, it was about Stephanie vs HHH. And he was the Undisputed Champion. Similar to the reign of the Miz. Miz was the middle man in the Rock vs John Cena rivalry and he was the WWE Champion.
At least with The Miz he was third wheel in a feud involving 2 of the biggest stars wrestling has ever seen in Cena and Rock, Jericho unfortunately was booked as third wheel in a feud between Triple H and Stephanie and their dog
that's what makes me mad. it was pretty obvious triple h was going to win but ffs they could of at least made Jericho look good. I know triple h can do that because he did it for Jericho in 2000 during their feud then. so wtf was this about? embarrassing way to treat your champion and by default your championship.

It wasn’t bad because we all wanted him to be the Champion at the time and him doing it at Vengeance against both Rock and Austin was a shock. Honestly that 2002 year; there was so much talent on the roster that really no one had a run with the title Kuz it kept switching . I think Jericho actually held the belt the longest that year .
It wasn't bad because that title reign played a huge part of Jericho's legendary career as this title run cemented him as an main event star. His victory over Austin and Rock on the same night is still an iconic moment. Jericho became an legend during that title run

Look at the history of his reign, he beat Rock and Austin the same night, he won a cage match against Austin the next day.
He beat rock and angle in a triple threat for christmas, the second part was a bit less good.
But he had great feuds in 2003 and 2004, he was legit as fuck. Best IC champion at the time, having matches against main eventers. In 2005 he was main eventer against Cena until he quit WWE.

It's true though despite the reign being underwhelming, Chris really did look like a Million bucks, when entering the ring with his titles and his theme song.
Bruh those emotions from Jericho when the rock walked to him up the isle/ramp, well that’s what I always liked seeing from him and especially triple H he had the best reactions/emotions.
He was the third wheel in his own title feud but some that the stuff that happened was Jericho's idea and that's kind of been his problem over the years and even today. He's been a bit too generous with doing jobs and has been more likely go for a comedy/silly angle than a serious one.
There were reports that Kurt Angle was originally supposed to become the Undisputed champion at Vengeance, but Kurt insisted on Chris Jericho winning it.

Even though Chris Jericho is the first ever Undisputed Champion, his reign was sadly mediocre.
He never was taken seriously as champion and was playing second fiddle to HHH & Stephanie McMahon.
Plus, Jericho never won without cheap tactics.
That's why, in my opinion, his title reigns after this one were far better.
I was at the San Diego Arena the Night Jericho beat Austin and the Rock on the same night. it was also the last PPV event I bought. so I watched Live and in person and record it as home as well...much later after watching the PPV again at home I noticed The Cameras paned the crowd in the area I was sitting in. so for me that was cool.

I have to say when Chris Jericho won those titles he was doom from the start he won from a weak finished and lost them at the main event of wrestlemania but was under paid even tho he was the champ.🤦♂️🤷♂️

I always thought that deal with Stephanie and the WM build really hurt HHH’s legacy in the long run. Even though it turned out that Jericho suggested a lot of the stuff people complained about, it felt like an underdog favorite being made to look bad by one of the evil Kliq members and fed into the reputation of HHH being favored due to the relationship with Steph. IMO, he came out of Mania looking like a politician instead of the Austin/Rock level babyface he had the potential to be. I always thought it would’ve been a better move for everyone to let Jericho go over, take a couple of months to rehab both guys, and then maybe let Hunter go over in that Cell match they had at Judgment Day when it would’ve meant more.

Y2J undisputed title reign was great! Heel Jericho was dope. But we all know he was going to lose to HHH at WM 18. I think WWE got it right with Y2J vs HHH being in the main event instead of Rock vs Hogan. I mean Y2J vs HHH was more build up HHH coming back from injury and Y2J being a great heel!

Bad is an understatement. It was an absolute letdown! Jericho already lost his momentum in 2000 when Earl Hebner was manipulated into reversing his WWF Title win. The Rock should have been the first Undisputed Champion.

No doubt that letting Jericho win an undisputed championship was right decision to do. He was one of the best during that time and carried those two belts like no one else. However, the problem with Jericho's title reign was the way he was booked, especially during his feud with HHH. Him joining forces with Stephanie against HHH was a good idea in general but it was poorly writed. As a result he ended up as a third wheel in a feud between Stephanie and HHH and this is what completely killed Jericho's momentum as a main event guy. But i'm glad that he reinvented himself six years latter and won another big one multiple times.
The major problem with Jericho’s reign was timing.
It began just before Triple H returned, and everyone knew how that was going to end at WrestleMania even before the Royal Rumble had taken place. Not to mention that Triple H was incredibly bland as a face compared to Austin and Rock, so it was like having to settle for the third most over face on the roster as the guy to get behind for WrestleMania season.
It was also during this time that the nWo returned. Suddenly, the hottest angle in the company was Hogan and Rock, which pushed Jericho even further down the rankings despite being the champion.
And to top it all off, with Triple H back, they decided to push his divorce with Stephanie as the main storyline in the feud. So now Jericho was relegated behind Stephanie too.
And finally, Undertaker had turned heel just before Vengeance, and fans were digging his new character. And with Flair back in the WWE for the first time since 1993, his feud with Taker was given major importance.
So essentially, despite being the Undisputed Champion, Jericho was booked as less important than Rock, Austin, Triple H, Stephanie, Undertaker, Flair and the nWo.
