you look very smashing in that hat
56:44 "This has easily gotta be the best action figure ever made of a child abuser."
Hilarious, Tony!🤣
Tony, your commentary was a delight.
I really loled at that comment but then I got to thinking...what about Freddy Kruger? I don't know if hasbro made any but there's definitely some nice Freddys out there. ( Yes I know I'm kinda running over the joke, sorry for that). ;)
I like the juxtaposition of Matt's thoughts from his childhood and Tony's thoughts as an adult collector. Very thorough and well done video!
I thought that was pretty cool too.
Was about to say
I appreciate you bringing on someone younger to offer a kid’s perspective on the action features that we older guys usually don’t care for.
Michael, Tony and Matt join forces to create a masterful documentary about the 2008 Hasbro Indiana Jones Toyline.
But it is Michael's film making expertise, attention to detail and dedication, that lifts this video production to new heights.
10/10.
I had the Indiana Jones cracking whip figure as a small child and loved it as my dad brought me up on IJ and SW, later on my dad found a ridiculous amount of Kenner toys at auction for £12 because it was an antique auction with the wrong demographic. It had the at-at, the falcon, the rebel transport, the at-st and a box with more than half of the Kenner figure line. They are me and my dads family heirlooms which I will love for the rest of my life. Thank you dad, I mention it all time but thank you.
Too young to have experienced Kenner Indiana Jones, and “Too old” (aka pretended I was too cool) for Hasbro Indiana Jones. I never had any of the toys unfortunately. So this is a wonderful look into everything that I missed out on. Had these figures come out in the 90’s I would’ve lost my mind. I ran around the yard with my dad’s old capgun (sans caps) and a jump rope for a lasso singing the Indiana Jones theme to myself. So these toys would’ve seen heavy play, especially with Joes. I can see it now, Indy leading a Joe team to look for some artifact or other to thwart Cobra’s plan.
Kinda the same here. I was 16 when Indy 4 came out and I loved the movie but I just felt I was "too old" and "too cool" for toys at that stage. By the time I realised that you could buy appreciate them as an adult (a year later), they had pretty much all gone and there were just a few random ones available on clearance. Definitely not making that same mistake this year but I'm worried that Disney won't put as much effort into marketing Indy the way they did Star Wars or how Paramount did with Indy last time
@@joevictor53 yeah, in My case i was 5 years when indy 4 came out and remember the LEGO videogame , sets , and Hasbro toys unfortunately I was more fan of dinosaurs at the time, but this year with indy 5 at My 20 years i really want all new toys of indy the adventures series z world of adventures and of course the LEGO indiana Jones diorama and sets ( sorry for My English)
Whilst other channels are off chasing fortune and glory, Retroblasting delivers top tier content that makes them look like they are digging in the wrong place. I am well aware of the effort that has gone into this and it absolutely shows. An astounding achievement.
“What I’m About To Do I’m Going To Enjoy It… Very Very Much”
Yeah, Watching This In One Sitting… Terrific Job Michael! You’ve Outdone Yourself
This video belongs in a museum!
With such a deep love of the original three films, I have to admit, seeing this rage of figures and vehicles as an adult years later had me feeling every bit like a kid again... Back when the films came out, my parents could never have afforded to get me these kind of toys, and so I was unaware of the original 80's line, which kinda made it even sweeter to have a fully articulated 3.75" Indiana Jones figure decades later.
I didn't see the bad face sculpt, I didn't see the huge cumbersome holster, or the (scruffy?) trousers, I saw a fantastically colored, highly detailed cool looking action figure of my all time hero. I guess I saw it through the eyes of when I was a kid, and it looked great to me, after all, I wasn't looking for perfection.
Seeing this line of toys scrutinized to within (3.75) inches of its life seems unfair, compared to some action figures, the line looked rushed, compared to others out there, it looked good, to those of us who weren't quite as spoilt, it looked amazing.
You feel that way because you are emotionally weak and easily hurt by impersonal perspectives that have nothing to do with you. Let me know where you'd like me to send the box of tissues for your tears.
@@retroblasting If feeling nostalgia for a toy line is 'emotionally weak' than pass those tissues around Herr Mac 😆
The Hasbro Indiana Jones toyline was one of my very favorites from my childhood, it's a big reason why I'm still crazy about action figures and Indiana Jones to this day. I've enjoyed every time you have discussed the line on this channel, so I'm so thrilled that you finally delivered an hour + long video covering it! Thank you and happy 10th anniversary!
Weirdly enough, this makes me want WW2 action figures. When you were showing the German and Russian soldiers,I kept thinking that I would love a great battle set out of those figures.
Go to marauders gun runners
As @Tomato Melvin said, Marauder Gun Runners 👌
"What did you do today Jason?"
I watched the best new Indy movie.
HAHAHAHAHA!
This was FANTASTIC Michael, Matt & Tony- NOT only did I really enjoy the Review and I treasure my collection even more. seeing this video really brighten up my day. Hopefully the NEW Indiana Jones figures will relish from past mistakes. Thanks guys for a great and wonderful insight of Indiana Jones.
Not the deep-dive we were expecting... but the deep-dive we deserved!
This video has set the standard for all toy reviews from this point forward. However, I dare to say, the only channel that will ever be able to meet this standard will be another RetroBlasting production.
This is probably my new most favorite Retroblasting feature, thanks to everyone who worked on it. =) ALSO! I just remembered how I got my figures of Temple of Doom Indy, Short Round, and Thugee Taskmaster several years ago. I was in a toy store in a local mall that sold a lot of bootlegs and I saw a large bin FILLED with loose 2008 Temple of Doom figures being sold dirt cheap. I actually thought they were bootlegs but when I got home I found the date and Hasbro markings on them so they were the genuine deal. If only I knew back then!
What a phenomenal in-depth analysis of the toy line. Not some flash in the pan review with jpegs swiped from Google. Each and every figure gets discussed between Michael, Tony and Matt. This is why I return to this channel time and time again. The quality of the content never lets the viewer down. Congrats to all on getting this over the line. I can’t imagine the amount of work that has gone into such a big production. And thank you all for brining it to us. This will be the gold standard of the Hasbro Indy toy line forever more.
Indy 5 can never live up to this.
Incredible work, Michael. Loved what Matt and Tony added as guests.
Thanks Captain Shaffer!
Thank you!
it'll be great, Indy is gonna go to China in seach of bitcoin and Switzerland for legendary NFTs, it all ties into the new toyline /s
I had some chores to do and I told myself I'll just watch the first 20 mins and then watched it straight through of course. Really well done Michael, the editing was sharp as ever.
*Fun facts about the Colonel Vogel figure:* If you look on the black armband, you can make out a dotted circle that indicates that it was at least designed to be coloured.
Also, in 2009 the body and accessories were reused in the _Marvel Universe_ line's *Invaders* pack for - appropriately - the Red Skull figure, complete with a detailed HYDRA armband.
This was definitely worth the wait. You did a fantastic job
"A Passage to India!" my favorite documentary series of all time "Himalaya with Michael Palin"
It's awesome that they added a lot of the artifacts from the Dark Horse Indiana Jones comics. Hasbro certainly went to a lot of trouble to include a lot of the expanded indiana jones material.
Really great video. Brings back a lot of memories when I was picking these up when they were on shelves. The crystal skull alien was the last mail away toy I ever got.
That looked cool, but holy cow the economics of it was dreadful.
I don’t even like collecting figures nor do I really like 80s toys/movies but your videos are so entertaining
A masterpiece! This videos shows the lengths Retroblasting is prepared to go in researching not only a toyline but a cultural phenomenon. I am sharing this video with as many friends as possible.
Two years ago I made a comment on this video that I still regret, so I erased it as I feel it does not represent who I am or how I feel about your videos. I love your in depth Indy reviews including this one, which I have watched multiple times since it was released. I know it might be weird to still think about a youtube comment I left years ago, but it still bugged me even years later. I'm sorry for that stupid comment. I probably just had a very bad day and just didn't process it right. I just needed to get this out. Thank you for continuing to make great work, Michael!
I have no memory of it, so don't worry any further about it. Have a great rest of your day.
This was so fun to watch btw! I’m back to enjoy it again. Love your leather jacket and hair here. ☺️
Wow Michael, this is Epic!! Amazing job, love all the clips as they go perfectly with the topic and more than that really make me want to watch these movies again. Also loved the brief Buck Rogers figure cameo lol.
I remember these being on clearance shelves for ages and even for 5 bucks I didn't want them, yet I was simultaneously bummed as a huge Indy nut that no one else wanted them.
Great video. My son and I had a great time collecting these back in 2008. We watched this together. Good times.
A fine quality video from a dapper gent 🙂... and his sidekicks on a rollicking adventure.
@1:16:29 Dang that Miriam Figure looks exactly like TWO amazing ladies: Siouxsie Sioux from Siouxsie and the Banshees “Kiss Them For Me” video and more recently the Witch turned Army Leader General Alder from “Fort Salem”! For real, look em both up, I know its not an intentional likeness but -that could actually be a fun video Michael, action figures that bear an uncanny (and obviously unintentional) likeness to real world people! (And yet look nothing like the intended actor/actress the figure was supposed to be! LOL! And this is a great and thorough Indy Figure video, sent to a friend in the UK who LOVES Indy!!!
I never bought any of the 2008 Indiana Jones toys, so this was a great video showcasing the ups and downs of the line. I will say, I'm digging the Temple of Doom figures, and wouldn't mind getting them for my collection. As a kid of the 80s though, the Kenner figures will always be my favorite, and as much as I know it's a rehashed gimmick, I'm a bit excited to see how they handle the Retro Indiana Jones figures, and depending on how they are presented, I may try to get those. As always, another solid video, great job guys!
I love Indiana Jones . I get my Indiana figures from a collector. Great deal. Nice video love it.
Cheers! A very informative and upbeat look at the Indiana Jones toy revival and some thoughts on what could have made it better. 😊👍
Just remember to point that out to people you catch saying Michael is a grumpy hater in all his videos.
What a wonderful and fantastic video you have put together. I really enjoyed this. Well done my friend!
Thanks Mike!
Awesome video. The 3 different perspectives on these toys blended together perfectly. Great job 👍
Your opening rocked. Love the collaboration and the insight here. Always a joy!
The DEFINITIVE discussion on the line! Great video and congratulations to all involved!
I have a chunk of these figures, play sets, and vehicles. Now I want to collect the rest.
Love your videos sir…starting to rewatch certain episodes…they’re very comforting….it puts everything into perspective but you still see the magic where it counts with the toys and lore
I do agree, at the age of 10 these were fantastic toys
I loved watching this. Fantastic Job Michael, Tony and Matt
)-Runs to EBay for Lost Wave set-( Cries softly to himself after seeing prices for said set. :(
It's ludicrous and criminal what Hasbro decided to do with those figures.
it's one of those lines I would've went whole hog into if I knew they were never gonna try as hard again, just like the Star Wars Saga collection up until the Disney acquisition, that was as good as it's ever gonna get, outside of the HasbroHandout projects
55:40 The best McDonalds commercial that never was. 😂
This video was SO worth the wait. Great commentary by Michael, Tony, and Matt and the editing was just hilariously done. Fantastic job everyone! I'm loving it!
Thanks so much!
The Hasbro line has lots of nostalgia for me, hopefully we’ll get a 6 inch line (like Black Series and Plasma Series) for Indiana Jones like the Ark Series or Raiders Series
It will happen
I grew up with those figures and they are one of the reasons why I've decided to pursue history and archaeology. This is also the best video that I've seen on this channel and one of my favourite videos on youtube. I applaud you Michael for this valliant effort. You are the best!
As always, great video! I like what all of you bring to the table.
Thank you guys for unlocking a memory I didn’t know I had, I literally dug the plastic backed truck from raiders out of my closet and remembered when I was a kid being upset that Indiana Jones was on the box cover but wasn’t included in the box lol. Great video!
Well done, thorough, highly detailed overview / review of the Indy range. Thank you!
Well done. The time and effort is all over this thing both in presentation and detail. I hope this catches a lot of attention a few different times this year and the effort pays off in views!
What an amazing video! So well made. Thank you!
This is a great video. I really enjoy these longer videos that analyze / give a history of a complete toy line. Well done to everyone.
Matt and I are the same age, so it was awesome hearing his childhood stories on these figures, especially because I was able to relate. I'll never forget my first Indy figure, nor the resurgence of Indiana Jones in pop culture during that time.
never grow tired of these great videos 🙂
Fantastic video. The attention to detail is wonderful. Great job guys
Wow excellent work, this video is getting me in the mood to go watch the movies again and pick up some of the figues. Thanks Michael, Tony , and Matt
I have very fond memories of the Indy line back in 2008. I had the temple of akator, the jungle cutter, German cargo truck, a 2 pack of German soldiers, and a pack of crystal skull figures from target. Growing up besides Star Wars and lego toys, I wanted Indiana Jones toys, and that wasn’t easy. When hasbro got the license and I learned of the lego sets I was super excited. I never owned any of the original lego sets but I loved the hasbro toys, I could spend hours playing with them, and was disappointed when I couldn’t find them anymore. With toys coming back for the new movie, I’m hoping they stick around for a while
I had no idea these toys existed. I must have them!
I would like to listen to him for that long, DV. In fact, I’ve watched this video twice since it came out 😂
EXCELLENT work. Loved the video.
Whoa, more than an hour. Thx for the hard work, i’ll enjoy it
We not gonna talk about how the German disguise Indy has a red blot of tomato as the head wound😂
A near feature-length documentary about a toy line I was barely aware of by one of the most consistently top notch channels on this platform? Yes, please. Every time.
Fantastic work to all involved. Loved the adult collector assessments contrasted with the kid who played with them. Figures truly don't always have to be great for kids to like them, but it never hurts.
Wow! Amazingly thorough. 👍🏻
Excellent video Michael, above and beyond
This is an outstanding piece of work
I must say kudos to this extremely comprehensive video.
I learnt so much about these Indiana Jones figures which I didn’t know existed.
And it made me go search for and buy the best Indiana Jones figure based on your reporting of it.
This was a great video and great collab video
Nice job, guys. Really great video!
That was a very thorough review. Thanks.
Great video! Those Temple of Doom figures are little masterpieces.
Top-notch production.. as always 👍
This is ridiculously well done. I never thought I'd sit through this entire thing, but I couldn''t take my eyes away haha.
the wall details on the temple of akator make sense now! i always wondered why it looked like that.
This video is amazing, thank you guys for all the work put into it, I very much enjoyed
This video is just amazing, one of the the best of it's kind.
I stopped collecting action figures 10 years ago, but I might start again, just for this line!
Just amazing!
Cheers.
Some of your absolute best work old friend. This video is now the absolute definitive piece on this toy line!
Awesome collaboration guys!
This is one of your best videos ever. Really loved everything and all the info about these curious but awesome toys. Some of them are real head scratchers, while others are real bangers.
I didn’t buy any of the IJ action figures unfortunately, However I did buy numerous sets from the Lego line, which I suggest you check out because it is seriously one of their greatest LEGO themes to date with an awesome video game as well. Where hasbro fumbled with Indiana Jones, LEGO absolutely nailed it and produced some beautiful play sets and incredible minifigures.
The horse was the reason I started buying these figures. It's probably the best 3 3/4 scale horse out there.
I enjoyed every second of this! Bravo to all involved. I have very fond memories of this line!
I remember these figures when the first movie came out. I was more of a starwars kid so didn’t have any of these toys.
Absoulty outsanding work!
I'd love to see more Indy videos on your channel
I had one Indiana Jones figure and the German motorcycle with driver. I had tons of fun with those two.
A great video and content from all parties. Bravo to you at Retroblasting, Analog Toys, and Mr. Kearns.
I have spent the last few months constructing my own Ultimate Raiders Indy from your video and it sits as a nice display piece. I wish the line had more moxy and people flew to it like they had Star Wars. This is a line of missed opportunities and unfulfilled potential. But theres some decent figures and the vehicles are a great last hurrah for Hasbro and their vehicle aversion.
I wish the line had more so we could have the full cast of the films and even the unreleased Marvel comic packs from "The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones" and expansion into stories like "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" and "The Fate of Atlantis." But alas.
A fantastic video on all fronts, and brilliantly informative. Bravo.
Ugh I can think of so many Young Indy figures they could’ve made
I've just finished watching this, only just realised it was over an hour long but damn you kept my interest the whole time, I really needed this vid today, i just got the indy quadrilogy on blu ray this morning this hit just right. Damn man I'm hitting that subscribe!
Thank you!
GREAT episode, dude! I still cherish my Kenner Indy figures I grew up with. :)
Fantastic video, as always.
Well made and highly informative, as always. I'd come across the big image of every Hasbro Indy figure before, but figured that most of them were prototypes, as I'd never seen half of them.
I'm not a particularly big Indy fan...although I do own an Indy jacket and shirt, but I love these videos just for the sheer passion shown by all. Another home run!
WoW, this was very interesting and entertaining! I have almost the whole collection myself and still some things were unknown to me, like the truck variation for example... very cool... I totally agree with Thomas Phillips, this video brighten up my day! Thank you very much and keep up the great work!
Brilliant, a fantastic deep dive into a noble toy line. Sure there was some slip ups with the jungle cutter, face sculptures and temple playset but still an enjoyable line.
Well done Michael! 👏
One of the greatest Retroblasting Videos ever made
Fellas, this was above and beyond! Tip top work. Feature length toy archeology and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I didn't realize how much better the line got, having never seen TLC figures at retail or really checking into the SDCC line. I know those figures fetch some fairly high prices, but I am now inspired to go on a quest for them...
Awesome colab!
