I don't think reliability is an issue with this car. You probably just got unlucky. In my country the v40 has sold like hotcakes since its release, so there are tons of people driving them both private and as a company car. They have a reputation for being reliable cars.

  • @anfahrt
    @anfahrt Před 6 lety +79

You say in the video that the V40 has some reliability issues. But in Germany, according to the German road assistance company called Tüv, the Volvo V40 is best in its class as far as build quality and reliability is concerned.

WinkelHoof Go and look in forums of others car makers. You'll find much more and severe problems with other car makers.
Moreover, in forums you'll only hear from people who had problems. You don't hear about the positive experiences.

TÜV is not a road assistance company. TÜV is a company which ensures safety and other standards for multiple products. If you break down at the side of the road you call the ADAC, not TÜV.

What a poor review. I own a 2016 V40 T5 Inspiron to which I have added a Polestar cat back exhaust system and a Polestar Optimisation upgrade.
I have none of the complaints you mentioned and after 30,000km it is still a great cat to drive.
The motor is a bit noisy but the exhaust sorts out that problem. The 8 Speed Auto transmission is great and smooth but a tad slow in the Sport or manual mode.
The dealers service has been great and the ownership rewarding. Well done Volvo!

Honda wipers are the same as this Volvo, I get so confused with the wipers every time I get into my mum's car and try to do a single wipe and end up putting the wipers on full speed.
The XC40 also has remote entry but keyless start unless you spec it as an option. I've ordered an XC40 and I actually like that it doesn't have keyless entry. Most of the time I use the remote window closing/opening so keyless entry/locking is a useless feature for me when I'd already have the key in my hand opening the windows walking up to the car, or closing them walking away.

The things you don't like is parts that you have to get used to with all diffrent cars. If you've owned a xc90 and trade it for a v40, you can't expect it to be exactly the same. Your review went bad at the beginning , the first thing you hate about it is becouse it's a diesel? Get a gasoline one then. I'd personal would't want a keyless lock, for saftey. If it's something wrong with the parts (like the spring), change it instead of complaining about it. And yes the door sounds when you have music on, and I'll tell you a secret, the speakers are inside the door. Ssh.

I think you should change your rental company !! it is clear this car has not been serviced and maintained correctly !! but this isn't untypical on a rental car !! I think to raise these issues on a brand of car isn't quite right Kris, best get a car from a volvo dealership direct before posting a video on the car ! these cars are mistreated by everyone who hires them, hence you having to change one V40 for another, yet the second car has issues as well !! The V40 was voted the most reliable compact car 2017, JD power survey, so your experience of two V40s isn't typical of the ownership experience of many thousands of customers !!

Add one more item. This car has pedestrian airbag, which is supposed to be a great security item, but it has a huge problem. It can be activated by light impacts with small animals (happened with my wife). If it happens, the car stops abruptly and inflates the airbag. It is quite weird behavior, because the car takes the control from the driver and can eventually cause a bigger accident with some vehicle coming from behind. Moreover, this system impacts many parts of the car making the repair very expensive.

Too late man! Already down voted when you told me not to.
"I am a Volvo fan, I had my XC90 for over 2 years" was one of the funniest phrases I have ever heard!
Volvo's are supposed to be owned forever, not for 2 years....

I live in the UK and have a Volvo V40 Momentum T3. Basically the car is good to drive and a pleasure to travel in.
BUT! after just one year old I had a clutch burn out. It took Volvo 4 weeks to repair it under warranty. Despite the fact that they already had the replacement clutch sitting in their workshop.
So! It's not really the car but the after sales repair and maintenance to fault. But a low mileage car one year old should not have a clutch go.

Most of the are Volvo engines. Only the smallest like the 1.6 are from Ford. My 2012 D3 for example is a Volvo I5 Diesel.

Most uncomfortable car I've ever driven - gave me hideous hip and lower back pain. Just couldn't get it to fit. I'm 5'9" male, so you'd think I'd fit in this car. 840s, s40 great cars...drove my S40 from Czechia to Brighton - bout 13 hours...only needed to stretch my legs at end. This one kills me after 20 mins. Ford Volvos I had no issues with. Geely ones; no thanks.

Sorry, but you showed all the irrelevant reasons, and pretty much showed your spoiled consumer nature.
I've been driving lot of cars, and my experience is that Audi A3, VW Golf or BMW 1 are not a match for V40, and are way behind V40 in important terms.
For me the no1 decision to buy V40 D4 R design, was security, however I've been pleasantly surprised in other areas as well

Well, this was lame. You start by saying the engine is too loud and the transmission sucks, and then you say the car is mostly pleasant to drive. Jesus. And the wiper and keyless rants are just silly, not sure what's the problem there. Anyway, I test drove an automatic petrol T3 and the engine was quiet and the transmission smooth enough.

Own a v40 1.6 d2 r design. My issues afterx5 years of ownership.... door locks, both driver side and passenger side, one day wouldnt open, (over seperate periods of time) known issue, volvo dealer fixed (at cost to me). The boot, way too small. Like if you had young kids/ pram, forget it. Its nowhere near as big as golf etc. turning circle, jesus, this is a general volvo issue, however jupiters orbit of the sun, is a smaller ciircumference than a v40 on full lock. Fact, end of. Only other issue is r design (not cross country or other models) no spare wheel. Instead a tub of cream glue and a ciggy lighter pump. So 2am on a motorway, split tyre, youre screwed. End of. So i bought a complete space saver/ inc jack etc and this is in the boot, which isnt designed for a spare wheel.... so a bit shit really.
