- The V40 is available with a new, fully graphic instrument cluster. This active TFT (Thin Film Transistor) crystal display brings the interaction between car and driver into a new dimension.The instrument cluster expresses emotional functionality, always displaying the most important information in any given situation right in front of the driver.
The driver can choose between three graphic themes.The Elegance theme has amber illumination that creates a traditional and calm aura.The Eco theme features green background illumination, designed to create an environmentally inspired look. An Eco meter is displayed on the left. The current and accumulated fuel consumption figures are displayed - and the driver is rewarded with a green light when eco-driving is optimal.
The Performance theme has red background illumination, creating a sporty atmosphere.

It's mind blowing to me that this was implemented in a 2012 vehicle. Looking to buy a 17 plate and this car is still matching modern competition 8 years later.

When this video came out i was blown with the tft display etc...an amazing car for me...and in December 2014 i bought a v40 cross country which i still own today!a brilliant car!

My sister is driving a 2016 A3 and im driving driving a 2016 V40 T3 Inscription and the technology in the V40 is way on another level
Have to admit after owning a D4 V40 this car is so much a pleassure to drive its unreal.
The Seats are so comfortable and the performace 0-60 in 7 seconds is outstanding, never been in a 2 litre twin turbo diesel.
Amazing seeing Volvo being this technologically advanced back in 2012.
Im buying a V40 Momentum 2013 with an auto gearbox and D2 diesel engine,cant wait :D

i had one of these on hire from Hertz, when i was in Sweden, absolutely brilliant car, the comfort is unbelievable, the ride was fantastic, the gizmos and gadgets were great fun, i would love to own one, maybe in the future. :-)

I used one of these (company car) for few times and not only I loved the whole human-machine interface but also the comfort... that was good! driving 8h in one day = no prob

It has everything i want in a car and more, The practicality is amazing and so is the price, the T3 has 152hp which for a hatchback isn’t bad at all, So it’s economical and has some power available if you need it
Also the new Thor’s hammer lights.. Man they look good

William Seroyer Apparently the V40 is coming stateside next year for model year 2018. I want the manual d4 diesel for all the torques, but I'd go Polestar in a heartbeat if I could afford it. I have TDI settlement money on the way and I may lease until the v40 arrives, that's how bad I've got the bug.
Volvo don't offer a polestar pack, they're a separate company who you have to commission to work on you vehicle. At least that's how it works in the UK.

If by "the rest" you mean including the Mazda RX-8, than we must agree to disagree. I love Volvos though, and Saabs alike - the new 9-5 is breath-taking - too bad they had to cut them off but I hear they might be saved (again). I'm looking forward to see this V40 dashboard integrated in the new S60 R Design. the performance mode would do so much better justice to that R-Design red vibe.

Hello I want to buy a Volvo v40 from 2014. But the car don’t have tft display. I see car from 2012 and 2013 that have this why my car not. Does anybody know it.
They may have more road accidents but it honestly depends on how they drive.
this display is very nice to see and there are smart functions but I do not like the control button. I think there is too much things on one button :) I have volvo v50 and there is this button only for "travel computer" ... I would prefer something like bmw's iDrive is for themes and this kind a tweaks, I think this would be more easier to use ;) Anyway this is my opinion how do I look on these things :)

Performance Mode all the time, I've hardly ever used Eco or Elegance, all that technology & its a shame cant reduce brightness on speedo display without lowering theatre (multicolour) interior light too much, which has its own setting (Low/Med/High) also nightmare too find quickly' nor firstly within centre display settings menu ~ Doh !

offcourse sweden has fewer road fatalities than a country with 30 times the population. However, it is that fact that it is fewer PER PERSON that is interesting. The number multiplied by 30 or even by 100 is still much less than it is in the US. Do you understand?

At least with the manual geabox, nothing changes in the car's performance. It's just informative. I like the performance UI, because of the large speed display.

Are these just themes (display colour and config only) or does this also adjust gear ratios as well? In my V40 D4 Luxury, I swear when in 'performance' mode the car is quicker to take off from traffic lights (whereas elegance feels as thought it smooths out the ride by changing gear ratios also - and ECO can be quite choppy at times as well..) but I could be imagining it all? Ha-Ha

Trip meter one and two. Have one for when you filled up with petrol last and the other for a specific trip. Quite a useful feature.

China is ranked 14 from bottom. And the country with the most road fatalities is Eritrea with a pop of 6,086,495, 3,000,000 less than sweden. So its a fact...
Just because a country has more inhabitants doesnt make it higher on the fatality chart.
In my V40, I don't have speed limit in my TFT. Is it only implemented in specific models?
