I got a late 2019 model and really happy with it. In some of the more premium builds, the design does look more chic but they're using much cheaper feel plastics

Interesting review Kris, would be good to see how much rear legroom there was, plus how many suitcases it would take, just everyday practical details that a potential buyer would be interested in ! will you be reviewing the V40 CC ? maybe take it for a drive through a forestry track ! or even something more demanding ! Have you seen that the Volvo V40 was awarded number 1 position for the JD reliability survey !! :-) in the compact category.
colinf1951 The legroom in the rear is awful...Its basically a two person car. My friends can only sit in the backseat for a short time. Its not comfortable at all.

This is based on the Ford Focus structure called Ford compact global
Hector Vazquez.......all cars manufactured these days have parts from other models such as floor pans,etc........ford did at one point own volvo and took all the best bits volvo had designed and put them into ford....thats why we suddenly seen all ford models beginning to have similar front ends to volvo,etc.....the cars are still designed and tested in sweden...despite chinese now owning the brand..........ive owned many many cars over my lifetime and volvo still remains top of my favourites......well above ford and yes even mercedes.....fod cars are basically shite and dont last long.

Went for the D3,
The D4 is More Powerful but less reliable
The D2 is Very efficent and Reliable But A bit Slow
The D3 Is more Powerfull and Has the Same Reliability as the D2, spills more gas however
the alloys are very similar looking to my old 07 mercedes c class........last week i traded my mercedes in and replaced it with a 2016 d4 volvo v40 auto....still trying to work out all bottons on dash/console as no handbook with it from main dealer.

@@jgdewals3162 ...i have done that and printed it off but id be happier with a proper printed book from volvo/manufacturer.
It will not be long before the brand new model based on the same platform as the XC40 will be introduced. I'm afraid I don't like the dashboard on this current model at all. That's a matter of personal taste of course. For value for money, I'm sure that currently these are great. Also there may be incentives to buy diesel versions in the UK at the moment. I know that Honda are throwing up to £5000 incentives at diesel models in a desperate attempt to bolster falling sales.
My local Volvo dealer is selling a lot of V40 models currently, so they must be doing something right.

I can't agree about the rear view mirror, I have ac70 with mirror surround, I bought a v40 and think the mirror looks cheap and tacky.
