  • Setting the Z-Offset correctly is arguably one of the most challenging parts of installing a BLTouch but fortunately, it has gotten easier due to some new features. In this video, I show you how to use the z offset wizard and babystepping to easily dial everything in properly. I also show you how to make the required changes in the firmware.

Thank you for taking the time to create and release such great training videos! I am a total newbie (and at 66 years old that ain't easy) and have the Ender 3 Pro with the BLTouch. I am struggling with setting the Z-Offset and was excited to download and instal the bin file you created (thanks again) for the Marlin firmware 4.22 (though I'm not sure if I shouldn't try the 4.27 version) upgrade with the Z-Offset Wizard and the BabyStepper. I copied it to a SD card and it installed wonderfully. However, the printer locks up when I try to instantiate the Wizard with "Homing XYZ" on the display. I need to power down the printer to get out of the menu. I was hoping you could give me some direction on how to address this. Again, your videos are informative, concise and usually on a level I can just start to understand. Thank you again.

If you want to use m211 you will need to connect the printer to your computer or an octopi, this covers that a bit czcams.com/video/T1TH0QpHVWs/video.html. I'm using your marlin build for Ender 3 with 4.2.7 board with BL Touch, except I have the CR-Touch. I can run through the wizard and use the baby-steps to get the test print dialed in, but as soon as I start a print it's printing in mid-air. I save the baby step value and add it to the Offset but I still cant get a print to work. Does the bed need to be leveled before running the offset procedure? Seems it defeats the purpose if so. EDIT: Went back and watched this again and I get a +000.7 but when its calculated I get nowhere near the -3.2 offset that you're getting. How is it calculating that number?

    Hello again ;)
So I understand that the new 2.0.x firmware has tons of stuff for people using a BLTouch or some other sort of ABL system. I do not have any sort of ABL system, and so I need another option. What I had used in the old firmware is the menu under Control -> Motion -> Z Offset that allows you to set your Z offset manually using the dial. I cannot find an option for this in bugfix 2.0.x. How do I re-enable/re-create this menu system and function? Do you have a video on that which I might have missed? So far I have not found an answer to this on CZcams or Google, likely because the syntax for this menu is highly specific, and when you search for something like "Marlin" "2.0.x" "Z Offset Menu" -"bltouch", you get all sorts of weird things and it is even worse on CZcams.

A warning! Pay attention to the correct pin assignment.
Just because the colour sequence on the board connector is correct, i.e. blue, red, yellow, does not mean that it has to be connected in the same way on the probe side. In my case, the manufacturer had used a cable that starts with red, but then swapped it with blue at the board connector. This made me believe that the pin assignment was correct for the skr mini. When I turned it on, it quickly became apparent that the display was going crazy and the board smelled burnt. I was still lucky and quickly switched off. Although the board was a bit fried, to my surprise it still works perfectly. One more thing...If you use the z_end pin and the nozzle hits the print bed during z homing, then swap the pins on the z_end connector of the bltouch.

ok. For anyone following this thread, I have solved my problem. While I did not think it would, I have determined that it DOES MATTER which pin on the Z-Stop connector, on the motherboard, you connect the black and the white wires from the BLTouch sensor. For reference...on an Ender 3 Pro, with the SKR Mini E3 V2.0 , the black wire has to go to the pin next to the Y-Stop connector i.e. the rearward pin farthest away from the BLTouch and flat ribbon display connectors on the motherboard.
I also have to assume that when using the 5 pin BLTouch port for this connection, it WILL matter which pin gets which color wire.
