đ€ What would your dream bike build be? Let us know! đ
If I had this chance, I'd start with ordering custom components such as shifters and frame because off-the-shelf stuff sucks
Great build Alex, location and intro well choosen too, I would have left the peugeot 404 in sight during the video. Bike looks great, like a once in a life bike.
You hit the nail on the head. Luv this build.
A trail mountain bike with the weight of a 20k TT bike.
In 2000 that's what I expected things to be in the 2010's
đ
â@@ShtopoRrrjust do it.
This video was a nice change of pace. Lovely cinematography, completely unexpected! Love the build, super nice looking and interesting components. Enjoy that bike!
Well said mate. Yes, enjoy your dream ride Gaspar!
If only there was a platform for cycling documentaries and short films⊠oh right, they removed it đą
Seems lately the quality has gone up overall. Keep it up GCN
@@MrJdw69 why thank you! â€
Loving how the current cycling world is all SRAM and Shimano but when Albert gets the chance for a dream build it's straight down to the Campagnolo shop !
Agreed!
well Campi did sponsor the video so obviously they are gonna provide the parts, not like he actually had a choice.
@@DummyUrD They need more marketing, at least here in the US.
@@DummyUrD agreed but he had the option of asking Shimano or SRAM.
Alex not Albert
Who'd have thunk Warwick was a man of such refined taste?
It's beautiful, may you enjoy every moment you share with your dream build.
he settled down after this with a tumbler of whiskey in his study!
The best part was the Peugeot car at the beginning: outstanding!!
If I had that car, I'm not sure I'd even need a dream build. I'd just drive it through the countryside in hopes of finding a cyclist in need, especially one riding a Peugeot. đ
@@robbchastain3036 haha! That sounds brilliant. "I just happened to be passing" where in reality you had been driving every weekend for months waiting!
@@gcntech O and imagine the tears of joy in the driver's eyes upon finally finding someone to help. And the look of pleasant bewilderment on the face of the cyclist upon noticing the car stop to assist. It'd be beautiful and maybe we need GCN dramatic presentations like that. And it'd be cool if the owner of that car contacted your countryman Jack at Number 27 here on CZcams, he does excellent reviews of classic production cars and invites his viewers to share theirs. We need to hear more about that Peugeot team car. đ
@@robbchastain3036 Come to the Tom Simpson Retro ride in August.
The cinematography, the music, the lighting, even the choice of transport are all totally SuperRecord-worthy. I love that as much thought went into the making of this video as Alex put into choosing his dream build. đ
There's a Super-Record bike on sale at XO Bikes in Lewisham Shopp[ing Centre. Police recovered stolen item. A dream bike from 1980s to about 2000. If I had a spare ÂŁ800, I'd buy it immediately. My era, my dream from 1970s to 2000
We love a bike build đ Glad you enjoyed it, Jazz and bikes... what more could you want
What a cool old team car. Can you make a video (series) now vs. then?
We can indeed! Ollie and I already have some plans!!
@@alexpatonGCN just don't let Ollie drive one... đđ„
@@gcntech Thereâs a story here somewhere that needs tellingâŠ
Great to see Campagnolo getting some recognition. I love Campagnolo groupsets. Both of may bikes have Camapgnolo mechanical rim brake campag grousets.
Which is your favourite Campagnolo groupset?
I love the intro to the video
Nice car indeed.
We had some fun here đ
I usually don't like these silent build vids. I watched from end to end.
Editing was that good đ
thanks! Maybe we should do some more builds like this?
I love the car, the shoes and the bike. Great job Alex and GCN editing team!
Thanks!
I just build my own dream bike! Steel Frame build on a workshop at big forrest frameworks in Potsdam. Fillet brazzed. ThankÂŽs Robert!
Can we see more of the cars by any chance? Some rare treats in this video indeed.
Appreciate, yes! Afford, no! đ
Wasnt that an ultra rare VW XL1, a +100k euro car?!
@@carledin yep, and very fuel efficient!
Never thought I would see a Volkswagen XL1 in the background of a GCN intro
neither did we!
Anyone who has only got into cycling within the last 10years just doesn't seem to appreciate Campagnolo for some reason.
Maybe because they havenât been keeping the grand tour teams on side?
The new standard is Decathlon đ
Campag's components don't have the beautiful aesthetics they used to đ
Some reason being their outrageous pricing. At this point they're just coasting on name recognizion alone, nobody with a sensible budget would choose Campagnolo over Shimano or SRAM.
It's because they're behind the times outside of adding a cog first. The thumb shifters were an ergonomic no-go for a lot of people. Paying a premium for worse ergonomics isn't something many people wanna do.
Install tip - Camp's hydraulic hose seems to kink much easier than other brands. When installing the hydraulic hose through the bars and frame, leave the shifter unmounted and off it's mounting bracket. Then attach the shifter to the already in place shifter mounting bracket. This ensures that there isn't any binding of the housing from being shipped in a spiral manner. The shifter will then unravel and be ready to install. This is from several installs. Enjoy!
Thanks, thats a brilliant tip. Routing the hoses through the bars was the "worst" part of the build, but will have to remember that for the future!
The Peugeot vintage team car was just the beginning of the coolness that is this video. Fun to watch the build-up. Do I spy TI? Yes I do - looks so fine! The mood lighting adds a vibe. He has the right attitude, patience in the build - it will be done right!
What a great video. Awesome videography design and a gorgeous bike!
Great build so far! Itâs really nice to see a bike with Campagnolo (other than in my garage đ)!
Oh, to be a presenter at GCN! Love the car, love the location, love the bike! Mega hug for sharing!
Awesome team Car. Can we get a Vid on the specs please?
Really really nice film editing and design choiceâŠeven the car on arrival âŠ.A beautiful bike. A cool video! Cannot wait for the full reveal. Well done!
Donât tell me , more top end components Alex found down the back of the sofa đ
These were actually behind the fridge!
Dreambike: titanium qr frame. With aluminium deepsection wheels. 11speed mechnical groupset and rimbrake.
Goldleaf naming...
...and NO paste ot grease on 98% of it !! Haha
The petrolheads/gearheads in your audience are clearly into the team car and the cars in the background (I'd love to hear that backstory).
Stunning build. Brilliant video.
Alex's special build gets a resounding SUPER NICE!
đđđ
Just when we thought only Ollie was being showered with new toys! Great video and beautiful bike. You are all set to enjoy the summer now Nantuck!
This bike was something real special đ
I love Campagnolo as it wears in not wears out. Yes it is expensive but it is worth it on my bikes to me.
the cinematography is next level - well done!
thanks!
Can't wait to see it finished, campagnolo good choice. đ„đ„đ„đ„đđ
we cannot wait either!
I knew they were giving you that mega toolkit for a reason. Campy always for a dream bike. Ti is the bonus!
Alex is a lucky lad!
Honestly surprised at the choice of Campagnolo given recent fall offs in quality. I was a Campag fan boy when I was racing and would never consider anything else. When I came back to the bike after 20y off I bought an EPS road bike and and Ekar gravel...both groups have been nothing but trouble and I ended up returning the EPS group to the builder after 6 months of pain and I'm about to take the Ekar group off as well in favor of SRAM. I get the appeal of Italian bits but they've sadly fallen from the days when they were the pinnacle of both form and function.
A bit like Italian cars to be honest!!!!
Itâs a sponsored video by Campagnolo. Note the âADâ in the corner of the thumbnail, and the description indicating it as such.
Stunning! Fantastic to see someone who knows EXACTLY what theyâre doing in action. & what a toy shed to do it from! đ. Canât wait for Pt2 đ
Saw Super Record early in the video and thought Yes, a man after my own heart. If I had unlimited budget, thatâs the way to go. The history, the quality.
Can you please do a video on that fantastic team car?
It's in the pipeline, fear not!!
Is that the one that limped from the UK to Gaiole last year on 3 cylinders? đ
0:05 Just a random Volkswagen XL1 in the shot no big deal.
Is that the one in the middle? what's the one on the right?!
@@toutingthomas The futuristic looking silver car on the right. The car has a very interesting history if you look into it online.
Good eye!
@@boy638 it is very fuel efficient!
I was so hyped for this one to be released and man am I not disappointed ! Apart from the gorgeous bike, the whole scenography and direction is amazingly beautiful !
Awesome video and intro, love the Peugeot support car.Im sure Alex must have got the Frameset on a discount price foem Tom,lucky guy.đŻđđ»đȘđ»đŽ
Glad SOMEBODY, other than me, loves Campagnola enough to actually use it. I just upgraded my old 1995 steel frame from Athena and other stuff Campy compnents, to a silver 11 speed Centaur and it's absolutely beautiful and performs as good as it looks.
I am doing exactly this on Friday with a bianchi mega pro L on Friday. Super record Campy Bora wheels and probably deda bars and seat post....The frame was NOS found in Florence last summer. Just hope my health holds to enjoy it..
One of the best videos GCN has produced. đ
thanks! We will look into making some more!
What a great vibe.. well done Cuthbert and the team!
Lovely build. I'm jonesing a Sturdy as well... đBut can we have a separate video about all the cars at your secret location as well please? đ
Alex's second love... cars đ
@@gcntech All we need to do now is get Alex interested in motorbikes and he'll have the the full set... đđ
An adjustable spanner? What would James May say
Who cares - i know 100 machine tool engineers who use them who are far better mechanics than he is
@@alistairmartin13 in the reassembler TV mini series, James may has an epic rant about them.
Loved to see the 404 at the beginning. My parents had one of those as their first car but without the canvas door and the roof rack. Many fond memories đ
If they had one with a canvas door you'd probably still have a cold shoulder from the draft! Lovely motor!
This bicycle is going to be extraordinary and well done Alex. Your component choices are excellent and i am looking fwd for the complete project.
It is such an amazing feeling having to build the bicycle of your dreams , in each category of course !
I am hoping my dream bike to manifest soon .
We're very lucky to get our hands on such nice kit đ
Can't wait to see the video detailing the build. I too went with the local builder for my custome Ti bike, Sam Whittingham of Naked bicycle design here in British Columbia, Canada. Sam has been building frames for decades and invented the handprint with the outline of Canada which Strudy plagerized on his frames with the British Island inside.
Absolutely love this video, canât wait to see Alexâs face when he takes it for that first ride!
That said, Iâm lucky, Iâve built my dream bikes, from the two different geared Tri bikes to my two race bikes and training bike, Iâm lucky, but itâs taken me a few years and a lot of sacrifices to get them.
Assembly happens in such a moody darkness that I expected it to finish with Alex waking up and sayin' he had a very strange dream.
But that would mean EP2 wouldn't exist. Riding the bike was the best bit. Stay tuned for that!
with his GCN Tech pyjamas on?
Superb Alex and cinematography team. Great video, beautiful bike, intriguing choices!
Definitely the right groupset! I love my mechanical 12 speed super record.
I had Campi Centaur in the past and it was a nice groupset, but I went back to Shimano 105 because it was less expensive and all the shops have the spare parts in stock. I wouldn't mind at all going back to Campi. Nice choice for his dream bike.
I was expecting Alex to just talk us through the components he picked, why he chose them and then maybe take the bike for a spin. What I got instead was the most pleasant and relaxing video I've ever seen from GCN, huge props to the cinematography and sound design guys!
I hope we get an episode three showing all the cars. I bet that build was really satisfying using those quality components and tools. Looking forward to seeing the finished bike.
a presenter challenge in the cars?
What a lovely 404!
Everyone loves Campagnolo;
Beautiful choices. And a bunch of Peugeot 404s & 504s! And a Lancia Flavia?? Nice.
Love that Colorway, absolute beauty of a bike â€â€â€
I think this bike is amazing! I love how you highlighted the underated Campagnolo groupset. My dream build happened in 2008 when I picked out the original carbon fiber specialized tarmac SL with the Campagnolo record 10spd. In 2024 I have since retired the bike and hangs in my room as a rememberance that j will never have a bike like this again. I'm totally in love with your build and I can't wait to see the next episode.
An amazing looking and specced machine Alex. So jeaslous of you being able to ride this dream project.†Looking forward to the 2nd video,.đ
Amazing bike Alex (Brian) Also great to see stuff lying around your garage finally get used...
Beautifully shot. Please do a ASMR version!
Oh great looking bike toođ
Charming video, thanks GCN!
Wish we had ASMR version
I want to know more about the Peugeot, is that an old school cycling team support car? Do spare bikes rack on the back? Oh, and is it yours?
Beautiful build so far, can't wait for the next parts!
That tool box is insane đ„
Built my dream bike about 2 years ago, with the group set Iâve wanted since it was released in 1987, Campagnolo Chorus!
At first I thought that the frame color looks a bit strange but!, when the bike is starting to get on shape it looks lovely!!
Do not leave your tools on the back seat of that car they will not be around long đ
Looking a cool build, if money is no object it has to be campag
I couldn't be paid to use Campagnolođ
Those cars! Absolutely stunning, whereâs my time machine! đđŒđ Loved the video, build, very special and looking forward to the next one. Iâve just built a J Guillem Formentor for this summer, waiting for the yellow thing in the sky to appear now. đŹđ§
let us know when you see the yellow thing in the sky, we have a đŸ bottle on ice for the moment it comes!
That is a nice build! I worked with The Casati Brothers and Rudi to get a blue, white and partially chromed Columbus XcR with a mix of Record and Chorus and a Deda cockpit and Prologo saddle. Rides superbly. I know carbon is usually lighter, but I prefer the feel and reliability of steel. I have an XcR Pelizzoli that i occasionally roll out for inclement weather.
This has got to have been one of Alexâs better days at work!
Campag! Beautiful!
What a beautiful build. Can't wait to see the next episode. Alex makes it look so easy.
What a beautiful bike. I've been riding a titanium gravel bike for a few years now and I'm so happy with it. Never again another material. You can argue about the groupset. Everyone has their own ideas. Every time I get my titanium bike out of the cellar, a grin crosses my face. I love my Pilot bike, which comes from the Netherlands. But my dreambike is a Titanium from J. Laverack from Scotland.
As someone who has two titanium bikes, this is my perfect build.
Would love to know what bar and stem combination you used as it looks like it also ti! đđœ
Retro look modern. Merckx steel frame set, silver Campag chorus mechanical groupset. Wheels? A set that can take my weight!
Masterfully done video, absolutely beautiful. Well done Alex!
Bravo to whoever shot this. It's getting me pumped to ride my bike today! You are probably the best kind of person to use the electronic super record, not being super familiar with it. I'm a bit older and had mechanical campy for years and years. I personally cant get behind them doing away with the thumb shifter!
Nice build! đŽ
OMG, a Ti supper bike is definitely my dream bike build! Absolutely LOVE this build!!! Stunningly beautiful and timeless!
So well directed and put together GCN, another outstanding video
I applaud the choice of a titanium frameset. This is not only a dream bike build. This is a dream bike built that will last decades! đđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđ
I loved this, except for the sound of the magnet scraping down the side of that beautiful frame!
Fear not, it was just the inside of the frame! The external part never touched the frame luckily
That is every boys dream. You can see it in his eyes, he is loving this. Canât wait for part 2!
Nice unique build! I have grown so tired of the factory builds where all the bikes are the same, soulless. Nice combination of carbon components and titanium frame set. Maybe slow down the pace in the video a little :)
Campagnolo should spend more money on R&D, making competitive groupsets that are actually dream-build worth it. The project and video are still excellent content!
Nice change of pace for a GCN video & loved the use of campy which is a breath of fresh air in 2024. Ripped the whole style & production straight from Gee Milner's Dream build series though.
I just bought a Super Record Wireless groupset, discount from Texas Cyclesport. Same price as Dura Ace di2. The largest U.S. Campy distributor told me they are selling a lot of these groupset. You just don't see them on youtube yet, if ever. Doesn't me they aren't out there. I'm excited to have it. I love Campy stuff, then Shimano, then SRAM. It was really easy to set up, on my workbench. Next stop, the bike!
What a build â€â€ titanium is exactly what I would choose too! Canât wait to see it finished! Top video!
thanks!
Great video, much more interesting cinematography than the usual. I also have to respect the choice of Campagnolo components. Congratulations Alex
A man after my own heart - Titanium frame and full Campagnolo Super Record EPS groupset, and done amongst a group of classic Italian cars. I'd have my 1974 Alfa Spider in the garage with me if I could have the chance to build this bike myself! I would have brighter lighting though, just sayin'. Well done, sir, and I can't wait for Part 2.
This was such a fun shoot! We even topped it off with Pizza đ
This is definitely my dream bike. From the cockpit all throughout the frame set are all titanium. And I'll go for components that are not too expensive for me to just buy components for replacement.
The car? The car you drove up in stole the show for me.
A quality TI frame can't be beaten đ
The last Super Record that I used was back in the late 1970's. One of my bikes still has a SR headet in it.
My build;
Custom built Ti frame, Shimano Ultegra mechanical 2x11, hydraulic rim brakes, Hunt Aero Al rims.
I would have to hunt for bars, I want something with very shallow drop.
And there are ton of great tires out there these days.
It would be fun that is for sure.
I did a similar thing ten years ago, full Super Record on a nice Peugeot CF frame - that bike has brought me such joy, and not a few looks of 'envy' at events but its a bit of a headache now that some parts need replacing, i mean, ÂŁ450 for a Ti cassette! But i still love it and will spend the money. In my dreams your latest Gen build is what i'd do but realistically its not gonna happen đ
Lovely choices â€
My dream build isn't too dissimilar -No. 22 with a Campy groupset. Unobtanium to my budget and that's why it will remain a dream.
Anything other than Campy is a nightmare. đđœ
I know there's going to be ep2 but I still wish ep1 was longer. đ
