At first glance the Mariposa, signature axe for Omar Rodriguez Lopez, is different... then you play it.... and you just can't stop playing it... and that really is all that matters!

At first I didn't really like the look of this thing, but it's starting to grow on me. Think I've found my dream guitar.

EBMM has been releasing odd and unique shapes for the last number of years, and I must say, I really dig all these weird new shapes they're doing. Thumbs up to the design-team (and the respective artists) on creating new designs that actually look cool.
Yeah it’s cool to have something that isn’t a strat or Les Paul copy like just about everything else.

Not in the slightest weird, actually a really stunning guitar! Goes great with the tone king amp. I want one.
Omar rodriguez did 6 albums with the mars volta, and more than 60 on other projects. You can't reduce it like this after all he has created.
Love it. Two volumes is underrated. My Gretsch is the same, and very common in that brand. Never thought I'd want that feature but when dialing in a sound in your head, it's awesome. Allows you to blend in the smooth neck sound with the treble bridge tone. The white and black look great, although I'm not loving the gold hardware, which no doubt is the reason for the +$100. Also weird, no left hand guitar for a left handed signature artist.
Opening jam is literally some of the best playing I've heard literally. Ever. Imo

What a beautiful guitar!!! Sounds amazing and no buzzing when played in clean modus. Even the name "Butterfly" fits spot on!! Henning, keep up the good work you crazy German dude. Still, like your vids. Animals at the end.
Now with Sterling's version getting into the wilds and player's hands (wild players' hands?), I think your review will attract more attention.

Guitar is available lefty on Ernie Ball’s website - Vault section. White and Black are more money because of gold hardware. I prefer the pink and green colors as well as the knobs, though pink could’ve been nice with gold hardware.

Absolutely lovely sounding guitar. I really like the design. Looks comfy to play.
Can I just say (for my 7th and final comment!) ...that I am learning that a guitars' tuning and intonation stability, and whether it's built to "ring" with clear, in tune notes time after time....are the most valuable features to look for. Sooo much more important than flame or caramelized maple necks ,11-piece necks of wenge, jatoba, walnut...etc.... Umm Neck binding. Any binding!! Inlays (shape, material).
Anyway. You can really hear this delivers on that front (i.e. the tuning and intonation and clear ringing fronts) Not nearly as visible a feature to value a guitar from behind a utube screen as those other features...but nevertheless, I am learning, are the number 1, 2 & 3 priorities for me nowadays.
Some part of me wishes the headstock was also odd shaped! Love the color and the body design...too cool for words! 60 Cycle Hum Ryan's head probably just exploded! Oddly...I really want one! 😎🎸
Picked up a Sterling by Music Man Mariposa as a beginner without any prior knowledge on what a "classic" guitar is supposed to be. Boy to I love the comfortable shape! And the tone coming out of the sub $1k guitar is pretty great too, with nice clean tone without buzz and can go loud and heavily distorted without sounding thin.
I'm in love. Something about it. Hope to see your thoughts on the new 2021 Sterling version still in Dorado Green!
Wow I love it! Agree with you about the knobs, but that can be rewired. (Also basically agree with you about The Mars Volta, but I respect their musicianship - it's not easy to be a band that plays songs with almost no recognizable structure) Great review! As always!
I love it! Like a postmodern take on a Jazzmaster. .. But really, it's just an Albert Lee, with some minor reforming.
Though I gotta say...every time I see block inlays I think...,"Boy I love block inlays!"

The back of the neck/headstock area looks amateurish...the way they taped it off to spray the gloss. They should have glossed the back of the headstock only, and none of the neck area. I think you said this is around $2500...I will pass, thanks.🤣🤣🤣👌
Jack the Rabbit Henning is the most underrated axeslinger on Utube, right?! I'd go as far as to say, he is the best shredder on utube ( miles in front of Tyler & Robert Baker - sorry Bob!)
Luey Sixty-six I also really like Jonathan Koh. Check out his playing if you haven't had the chance...but, yeah, Henning has gotten much better over the years.
It does sound sensational, no doubt. It reminds me very much of the Albert Lee, a guitar I lust after. One negative for me is no tone control, another is the first volume control is a bit far forward for my taste, easy to catch when strumming. It´s an unconventional beauty!

I love the shape, love the colour. The headstock doesn't really go with it, but it's the EB/MM shape so I get it. The colour is like a lighter version of the Sky King. I'd engrave my own pickguard, though.... and fit Phat Cat P-90s.

Update: bought a Mariposa partly based off of your video and I LOVE it! Light, comfortable, awesome neck, and it sounds great (more so when you play it than me but I’m working on it). Got me the Sahara Sunburst and I could look at it and play it all day. Btw, experiment with the middle position and adjust the volume controls for some cool tonal varieties. Admittedly, I didn’t get it at first until I played w/ it for awhile w/ different genres of music - great for 60’s rock tones. Again, great video and awesome playing! The MM Valentine is next! Have you done a video for that?
I respect how nice the guitar is and it sounds terrific but the body style is not to my taste. A little pricy as I’m just a poor boy from a poor family...... Your playing was wonderful... as usual and the vid was very informative. Thanks I always learn something here.

You should try out a Music Man Luke 3, my most favorite Guitar of all time. Just stunning an it plays like butter.
The internal buffer is awesome und the boost capability is just stunning.

Not My Style of Body Shape, Neither was the Albert Lee or St. Vincent but it Sounds Real Good!, I think the Valentine, The Silhouette, The Axis Are My Style of Body, I Never Heard a Bad Sounding music man. The Original Sabre was My Favorite!

There is a lot to like there, really like the color and the pickguard. I am down for another body shape than the classic s shape, but not 100% on board with this shape.
I like it. Love the color. I'd like to see how balanced it is with a strap.

Judging by the Sweetwater photos the case you’re talking about is probably standard. Also this is a total shot in the dark but the black and white have gold everywhere (including the truss wheel) and even the knobs are different so maybe that adds a bit to the cost. Potentially the gold laser etching material is more expensive too? No idea. I kind of like it but I wouldn’t own one since the jack placement would kill me since I sit classical style

The body and the concept are just not that much different from a Gibson Firebird. So not all that weird really. Its even got that country spank at low gain. It doesn't have to be THAT different from a Stingray any more than a Firebird is all that different from an SG. Unfortunately I have too many double H guitars or I'd be all over this one.
The funny thing about the review is he says he's not a Lopez fan but coming out of the Marshall and the Orange amps he's pulling off all of Omar's licks. Great overdrive pickups. So much crunch and bite.

Ein Grund für den nicht versenkten Elektronikfachdeckel könnte folgender sein:
Ich habe mich bei meiner LTD Eclipse mehrmals grün und blau geärgert, wenn ich ans E-fach ran musste, weil der E-Fach-Deckel derartig stramm in der Versenkung gesessen ist, dass ich den nur mit zwei feinen Schraubenziehern aus einem Uhrmacherwerkzeugset raushebeln konnte. Da besteht dann ständig die Gefahr, den Lack fürchterlich aufzukratzen und man braucht ständig zusätzliches Werkzeug, um das Fach aufzukriegen. Wenn der Deckel nur aufliegt, umgeht man das Problem.
