It's true. I fought a Ganondorf player as Rosalina and I was comboing them like crazy feeling really awesome with the character. And then he hit me with one charged for 1.5second F Smash at edge of stage and I died in one hit. The game was over from that point on and Luma renounced me as its mother, never to join the battle again.

I have no idea if others have this issue as well, but I actually have a kinda bad habit of always releasing shield to use an out-of-shield option, even if I dont need to. It's most noticable when I release shield to do a grab and then lose to something that should have been slower than my grab, since I exited shield first. It's lost me quite a few games over time, haha. I still do it even now.

For me, the airdodge, shield, and ledge options are most important to know. Like you said, and it pains me, but people on elite love to just drool on their a buttons. I hardly EVER see people shield in neutral or shield and play a little defensively out of their disadvantage. Same thing goes for people who spam airdodge out of combos or jump from ledge. Online, its extremely hard to punish sometimes due to latency. However, in a normal setting it would be called out immediately. Thanks for pointing stuff like this out!
Tl;dr: if you see someone repeating options, form a plan around it, its simple! If you find yourself getting punished for the same thing once or twice in a row, try something else!

Agree with everything you said except a little of the bit about “knowing what your kill moves are”. I do think it’s important but on for a certain range of damage percentage. Considering that most of the time you won’t get a kill at early percent and are almost guaranteed a kill at any hit around higher percentages like 170+ (rough estimate), you can get by with not focusing so much on those kill moves in certain situations. It’s definitely a good thing to know about, but i don’t think its necessarily a thing to here “I need to focus on doing this immediately” when fighting
