Jtails, I've noticed a lot of people improving online since you've started posting these videos. Ive learned a lot from these and love utilizing the up bs out of shield. I love all your smash videos, but these tutorials are my favorites.
When tou demonstrated the part where caption falcon shielded the down smash and let go of shield was a habit I have when I play with my brother Edit: that second reason was so accurate on what I did. I kept thinking that "Oh im in the air and I can get out the combo and land with Dair because it'll hit him" but that git me punished Edit 3: that 3rd reason is.me but reversed, I double jump and get myself killed
I agree with everything that's being said on safety on shield tips, however, if my math isn't bad and Ruben's calculator is accurate, the example with ZSS's down smash and actual data of safety on shield is that the move is -15 or -16 on block (depending on which hitbox is the one that hits the shield), which means Falcon has 15 frames of advantage,. Shield dropping is 11 frames so Falcon has 4-5 frames to punish that action assuming everything is frame perfect. At the same time, this means he has 15-16 frames to punish it by cancelling the shield with a jump oos (frame 3 jumpsquat + doing an aerial of sorts, granted Falcon doesn't have great aerials to punish things oos) to punish with an aerial or an up b oos (frame 14). So in reality the move isn't 100% safe on shield. I understand that some moves have shield pushback properties which make them safer on shield even if they aren't but I think that's worth mentioning in the video, for example, if we were to do a frame by frame analysis of this situation Falcon would be able to throw out his jab before ZSS jab, but it most likely wouldn't reach because down smash has more range if spaced and Falcon would be too far away. Regardless you encourage good oos options that aren't dropping shield after a safe attack is thrown out which is definitely the best thing to do.
This is very true. Though I think those frame perfect punishes, even offline are extremely unrealistic/unreliable. I think players should go for guarantees when they try to punish moves out of shield, especially in this game ultimate. but yeah shield push and distance of the move is also another important factor like you said that frame data doesn't account for. Obviously I'm speaking generally in my habits video, and for the general player, having good practices will for sure increase their win rate. Case by case basis based on falcon's jab, vs gdorf jab for punishing out of shield is a harder analysis. haha I could have talked 15 minutes on this topic alone since it has so much depth, maybe I'll just do a dedicated video to talk about safe/unsafe moves, and why some things are punishable and some aren't in spite of frame data. good feedback!
Safe on shield guide next jtails? I understand how it works, but I'm not quite sure which moves are safe. Is it specific to the defending character's shield?
see i still have trouble with moves safe on shield because of the transition from smash 4 where shield was so good in that game and you could punish basically anything out of shield to where now you can basically get hit with an fsmash try to punish and just get jabbed so it’s that smash 4 habit of being able to punish everything that it messes me up in ultimate
true, most fsmashes are punishable with just a few exceptions, like wolf, gdorf, sonic, mario. but yeah I get what you mean. just a matter of knowing exactly which moves are and aren't safe! through trial and error
I've been doing the landing on the opponent thing for too long now. I know not to do but the 1 time it works out of like 10 or 20 tries makes it worth it right...right....
That last one I definitely see a lot and yeah. Not good to be doing especially if your opponent is playing with a character with a good projectile. Samus WILL fire that fully charged shot if you try to do this and it’s probably going to hit during at least one of your vulnerability periods when throwing out those attacks. Then you got characters like Ivysaur who will get a variety of combos and setups out of their projectiles.

starting off with an example of getting punished because you arent familiar with which moves are safe on shield or not isnt a bad habit, its lack of game knowledge... really doesnt fit the title of the vid. Still a great video regardless, always love your content
This is true, but the habit is that regardless of what moves hit shield, people will always try to shield grab. It's a constant habit, whether it's due to lack of knowledge or not. I agree with you! Though figured this would be a good time to explain what safe moves even are.

eh not really, but once they use their double jump, you know they have no more options and have to come down, so you can punish them on landing more easily.
yeah but good players or people who understand the situation usually avoid this and punish the option. because 95% of the time you knock someone in the air, they hit a button instead of trying to land safely. so with this knowledge just respect their button and punish them over and over and over. I do this in all my elite smash videos

From the frame data it doesnt seem to be safe on shield at all (but it clearly is in your video). How do I read this so that what I see on screen and how I'm thinking about the numbers line up?
really nice video jtails! i agree with that concept with "kill them late and stay safe" but my friend plays lucario. if i stay to save he is gonna kill me at 40 how can i Deal with that ?:(
Best is to go early for edgeguards, first Lucario's Recovery isn't that good then and he can die early.
what is the video that you talk about ledge recovery options?
I found this video extremely useful 😂
Video: These video will benefit you even in casual play
Also Video: Stop going for untrue combos
Me: Not everyone knows what combos are true, ESPECIALLY casual players. I feel like actively studying for true combos to rely on and intentionally not attempting unconfirmed true combos is the same as taking your first big step out of casual play 😐
Time and time again
starting off with an example of getting punished because you arent familiar with which moves are safe on shield or not isnt a bad habit, its lack of game knowledge... really doesnt fit the title of the vid. Still a great video regardless, always love your content
This is true, but the habit is that regardless of what moves hit shield, people will always try to shield grab. It's a constant habit, whether it's due to lack of knowledge or not.
I agree with you! Though figured this would be a good time to explain what safe moves even are.
It says in the frame data that zero suit samus is -15 on sheild when doing down smash...isnt that unsafe? Was she nerfed since this video was put up?
As long as you space it decently, doesn't even have to be perfectly, it's totally safe.
@@JulesTrades thanks for the reply...ill take your word for it....your a pro and im a noob
Can you please make a video that can help with my dedede, meta knight, and kirby. Kirby im best with. Meta knight most of my deaths are sd's. And dedede is a middle ground and would probaly be a better main. Also i use pro controller or joycons attached to switch. And yes i am kind of bad and these aren't high class but i just want to be better at them. I have beat dk-dark samus and lucas 9cpu (i haven't tried the laters and i am having trouble with mario) with my kirby
J3diSt3v3 I suggest watching d3nsity for dedede tips. He’s a very good d3 main and his videos are really informative
J3diSt3v3 if youre beating lvl 9 cpus then youre insane at the game no need to improve
Levl 9 CPUs aren't good practice. They really don't act like real human beings. They mostly just react to things and more often then not don't know how to get out of strings.
Patrick its obviously a lil kid writing that comment leave him alone😂
@@mattbergz2791 I figured he'd want an honest opinion. It would suck to spend a ton of time fighting CPUs to then get beat by your IRL friends. And not even know what you're doing wrong.
Can I punish the double jumps as Little Mac?
eh not really, but once they use their double jump, you know they have no more options and have to come down, so you can punish them on landing more easily.
@@JulesTrades
True. Little Mac is good at that and his down smash is well suited for edge guarding.
Does anyone know the name of the song playing in the first part while he’s talking about unsafe/safe options?
techno dancing daisy
How does he say Zero Suit Samus’s down smash is safe in shield? Why is it -15/-16 on shield then? What am I missing here?

I don't usually comment on any videos, but this needs to be pointed out. Just what the hell is Fox doing with Lucina? 9:15

What is up with the leftsided audio?
Well for number 2 if the opponent doesnt respect your option theyre gonna get hit no matter what
yeah but good players or people who understand the situation usually avoid this and punish the option. because 95% of the time you knock someone in the air, they hit a button instead of trying to land safely. so with this knowledge just respect their button and punish them over and over and over. I do this in all my elite smash videos

People in your comment section really hates Zero for some reason , Not just this video , but every tutorial video you make , people bring up zero and then more dogpiles , is there any beef between you and zero Jtails ? I'm new to smash and neither of you seem like bad person.

Dash forward, turn around, jump, and then back air

I love these videos, but you talk to your viewer like they don't know their abc's. Especially the first video. Please change the attitude if you can.
Well you have to understand that a majority of my viewers ask me questions like "How do I use Little Mac's K.O. punch" "what does DI mean?" "What's a fair or dair? what is that?"
I have to break things down to the most basic point because my audience generally isn't a tournament or competitive player. A lot are also young children. So I try to break things down easiest to learn for everyone. If you are at a higher level then it likely doesn't apply to you.
@@JulesTrades Oh okay. I want to let you know that I am grateful that you are making guides like this. Merely complaining literally undermines the blessings we all have. Thank you.
Edit: people are willing to ask questions just to elicit a reaction. People probably hate how confusing fair and dair are, or point out pointless observations just to get back at people, etc. Just another possibility
Starting to despise this series
Why is that exactly I'm curious?
Oh hi Jtails, As a player who knows about these things I feel like each time i get a notification I see stuff I know, you feel me. I feel like alot of time goes to these kind of videos(thats good). But you know your sub box has ppl like me who have been here since sm4sh(didnt have account back then sorry I failed you) and know all of these little. If every once in a while we got videos that was directed at ppl like us then I would be happy. Every time I see a TOP 5 MISTAKES A BEGINNER SHOULD STOP I feel a pang and wonder when a video aimed at ppl like me will come out
Jtails you do awesome content that anyone can respect so keep it up.
