I agree with most of these, but find that in general pasta sauce needs a bit of sugar. I actually was bewildered when I first tried Raos because it was all acid and couldn't figure out why everyone raved about it. Depending on how sweet the tomato products you use are, a bit of sugar balances the acidity of the sauce. Of course I prefer to control this on my own vs buying store bought sauces, but zero sugar in a red sauce tastes bad to me in most cases

I've started using sweet paprika as a balancing ingredient instead of sugar. You can stir it right at the end of the cooking too, adjusting the quantity as you like. And it's red 😀👍🇬🇧

Great video! I just found your channel and am excited about trying so many recipes. One note from a geeky scientist
be careful to watch your diet for sufficient iodine intake if you aren’t using iodized salt, especially if you are pregnant, vegetarian or vegan. They started adding iodine to table salt in the 1920s because so many people were iodine deficient. Most people do not realize how important iodine is to many aspects of their health.

My thyroid started malfunctioning and I was diagnosed with mild hashimoto's disease (low thyroid). I started doing research and realized that a couple/few years before I switched to sea salt as a healthier option to iodized salt - which sounds great until I realized I wasn't getting iodine anywhere else in my diet. I have since switched back to iodized salt and now have healthy numbers in my thyroid panel again. :)

"this salt actually has minerals, it's very healthy for you" is a myth.
If one prefers one type of salt because of texture or taste ok but to say that they are more healthy is untrue, generally the amount of other minerals in salt are so little that they are nutritionally negligeable. Idk about this salt specifically but stuff like Himalayan salt are a marketing scam.

The only thing i look for in the ads is bananas. I buy a 40 lb box at a decent price and slice into quart freezer bags, then put those into a gallon freezer bag. A ready dessert or addition to hot Oatmeal. You can mix with fresh frozen apples from your tree and fresh frozen peaches or plums...all from your own trees. We top with a bit of whipped cream or warmed organic nut butter that freezes on impact! You can eat thatnor use as a topping for whole homemade pancakes. Toss in a little tapioca flour to make pancakes a little chewy. That fruit combo alone is especially good in summer. You can blenderized them for a smoothie or just banana for soft ice cream. Thank you for helping so many!

Apples are often just dipped in salt water for a few minutes. That's what prevents browning. It is supposed to rinse the apples off afterward. If the preparation is lazy, they simply dip them and package them. There isn't any chemical people are using to prevent apples from browning. It's just salt water or a light poaching- a practice used for centuries.

Thanks. Make your own whole wheat bread and use a little molasses....you will NEVER buy bread again. I used a bosch bread maker. I could never get it right before that. But then i discovered i have celiac. I sure miss that great bread. Also getting pre cut foods is a big risk of food poisoning and illness that is currently in your community. Using an instapot pressure cooker kills all the germs. It lasts longer for great left overs and saves vitamins. Salt is a killer for me. When you stop using salted and sugared foods, you do get used to it. Food yeast helps with salty flavoring. Then when you eat processed foods, you do not even like it. If you must, dilute with whole foods to perk the flavor and cut the salt and sugar. I add almond and tapioca flour to packaged gluten free brownies. You are definitely on the right track!

Coconut oil is not particularly healthy to consume. It’s mostly saturated fat which isn’t heart-healthy. Canola oil is actually a much healthier choice, according to dietitians, and a great oil for cooking due to its high smoke point. Look for cold-pressed canola oil, which is a good source of Vitamin E. Other healthier choices are olive, avocado, and peanut oils.

So summary of your video, dont buy the standard American products which are full of stuff thats either banned or just not used in the uk & Europe because we just wouldn't touch the stuff. It amazes me how much chemicals & corn syrup is in nearly all American foods. Did you know that in Ireland the courts rulled that Subway "bread" isn't bread due to the massive amount of suger that's in it? Obvs white bread is far from healthy but ours doesn't contain the sugar and chemicals that American white bread contains. Also I've NEVER seen your "standard" cucumbers in the uk or mainland Europe "English" cucumbers are our standard and are just called cucumbers. I appreciate that it's REALLY difficult to find corn syrup & chemical free foods in the US & due to your FDAs approach of only banning things proven harmful after its potentially affected thousands, the majority of foods are questionable when seen from a European perspective. So your efforts to protect yourself and your family as well as educate others is admirable.

One note about table salt. Per the CDC, 12% of Americans and 20% of people worldwide are iodine deficient and this is the world's leading cause of preventable mental retardation. Americans' and Europeans' iodine consumption is actually falling, maybe because we are eating more processed food which doesn't use it. Table salt is a really easy way to get your needed iodine so most people should be using it. www.cdc.gov/media/pressrel/ad981001.htm
