      You just have to read labels. Buy the majority of your food on the outer ring of your grocery store. Anything that can be ground by YOU is better. Don't buy packaged garbage. Cereals aren't what they're cracked up to be. I thot everyone knew about shredded cheese lol. That's why the shredded stuff is so dry!! Natural cheese has moisture. And tastes so much better! Parmesan in a container on a shelf is NOT real cheese!! Don't get overwhelmed, just READ. If you can't buy fresh fruits n veggies, buy frozen NOT canned. IF something is being pushed as "Convienant" it's questionable. IF you can't pronounce the ingredients & don't know what they are, drop it & run!!!

    A few things that weren't mentioned: almost all herbs & spices found in the grocery are irradiated and have ethylene oxide (ETA), a sterilization chemical, used in them, unless it specifically says otherwise on the bottle (or bin for bulk herbs).
    Also, most store bought cheeses, unless specifically stated otherwise, have natamyacin, an anti mold/fungal drug used in them. Additionally, formaldehyde (FA) and hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) are used in cheese production to control gas-forming clostridia (the genus bacteria of botulism).
    There's an ungodly number of hidden, undisclosed chemicals in not only processed foods, but nearly all foods that are commercially produced.

    Thank you for addressing the fake Italian cheese situation! I'm Italian and my uncle in Italy used to make cheese so I know what the real stuff is. It's very annoying when they pass off the fake stuff as real and they love tk stick an Italian flag on things to make you THINK they're imported and in tiny writing it's "Italian style". Don't even get me started on Romano cheese! Pecorino means sheep. Romano cheese js supposed to be made with sheeps milk. So Pecorino Romano cheese is sheep milk cheese. I see lables that say Pecorino STYLE cheese! There's no such thing! It's either made from sheeps milk or its not. This is also a health issue because some people can tolerate sheep's milk but not cow's milk.😡😡😡 It's a totally different animal. You wouldn't sell lamb style lamb chops then turn over the lable to see it's pork but prepared with seasonings typically used with lamb and think it's ok!

      And here I thought it was just my eyes... I recently couldn't even find the nearly invisible Best By date on a loaf of bread that I know used to have them somewhere.
      But country of origin is important because some governments like China do not regulate food products very well. China in particular is in the Robber Baron phase of capitalism (look it up in an American history textbook). Be especially suspicious of canned "organic" foods from China that are significantly lower in price than American-grown organic products. There is a long process to get the organically grown label in the US, involving testing and buffer fields. That raises the price. In China, they will stamp it "organically grown" without such strict rules. The big companies like Libby's are especially prone to using products from China without indicating the origin on the label. Become familiar with prices for real organic canned products grown in the US or another country that has strict regulations and avoid anything that is too cheap. Push for laws requiring country of origin on labels if they don't already exist. Tell the grocers that you don't want to buy food without that full label.
      I've noticed that allegedly fresh produce labeled organically grown now really doesn't taste like it, which is likely a problem with the originating country. It used to be that paying for organic would mean much better taste, but not now. It's really hard to find a good-tasting tomato and that's been a problem for decades. Tomatoes are being bred to hold up during machine harvesting and transport, not for taste. If you are lucky enough to find locally grown, leap to buy them. They are much more likely to be good. Sometimes the little tomatoes (like cherry or grape) can be decent.

      True cinnamon has a much more intense flavor, not as sweet... It would be better to use the real cinnamon in a Savory dish. If you want the sweet flavor of cinnamon in baked goods better to use the other type. At least it's still a plant, if it was made in China it would likely be out of plastic.

      Ceylon cinnamon in small doses 👍

    • @jwoolman5
      @jwoolman5 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Cassia is not fake cinnamon. It tastes different but it comes from tree bark also (those rolled sticks were quite real, Bobby) and is often called Chinese cinnamon, which is related botanically to Ceylon cinnamon. Bobby is dead wrong about this. He should be much more careful about what he calls "fake". Different does not mean fake.
      Different recipes may call for either Ceylon or Cassia cinnamon because of the taste difference. If you use a lot of cinnamon, Ceylon is preferred because of the much much lower coumarin content (something you don't want to get too much of). But if you just use it occasionally, use the one you like best.

Their are skeptics ... and there are psychopaths who are not capable of believing anything hurts someone unless it hurts themselves. In this case there really are two types of trees that produce "cinnamon" . The less expensive of the two is known to not be healthy for the liver if eaten in quantity. This effects people who drink a lot of cinnamon tea made by soaking cinnamon sticks, but not people who sprinkle it on their lattes. Cinnamon tea is said to have medicinal effects, such as helping the prostrate, so there are people who drink a lot of it.

    Shop at Co-ops if your city has them. Co-ops only buy from local farmers. Everything tastes like it's grown in your backyard. Also alot of herbs we use can be grown in doors such as: basil, oregano, parsley, rosemary and thyme. With olive oils you want pressed oils. Learn how to make your own oil, butter, whipped cream, and cheese. Our grocery stores are making us sick. Buy from farmers markets, meat markets, and co-ops

    One thing to note is that from my understanding "Cassia" isn't technically a cinnamon, but a "cousin" of the Cinnamon family. There is also a taste difference, as Cassia is much stronger than Ceylon Cassia also contain a compound that sound say is toxic, so that is a considerations. Some recipes do call for Cassia compared to Ceylon (I've seen this in Indian Recipes). There are also a few varieties of Cinnamon besides "Ceylon." Vietnam, Thailand, and other Southeastern Countries have different varieties of Cinnamon types.
    I've heard that most Olive oil is tainted/mixed with other oils, and that you should only find it from extremely reputable places. There was a small Italian place near me that used to press their own supposedly(They had claimed they had been doing it since they lived in Italy, 30+ years ago) . The establishment had INCREDIBLE FOOD, so I don't doubt their authenticity. I've never had a Stromboli like that before.

      Anything from the seas, particularly since the nuke from Fukushima has been belching bequarels of radioactive water and I’d heard the only solution Tepco came up with was to just let it all into the Pacific Ocean, which I’d seen has already been done. When that disaster happened in 2011, the cover up was massive and global- even now the sites I used to monitor that and other scary things have been removed for years. But before the censoring and complete shut down of any news or info having to do with Fukushima, and right before the universal gag order was put into place - the university of Vancouver wrote and published a paper. So this was soon after leak, U of Vancouver found that 1000 or more things in the food chain in pac ocean was dying or dead- the inside of bones were soft, rotten and yellow in some animals- already. I love sushi and all kinds of seaweed so you can imagine how sad and just sad that I am. The truth is a hidden flighty thing and many in USA can’t even bring themselves to imagine that they’ve been and are regularly lied to and that’s very sad indeed. Not to mention all the suffering marine life- mama mammals trying to feed their babies death milk that can’t even give calories to put any weight on babies. The information is out there, but you probably won’t find it on tv news or any of these sites like this one that we’ve been going to for years. Don’t stop keep searching and when you learn something -share it.
