It seems like people confuse "scripted lines" with "somebody saying something but then the take being ruined so you do another take of the same thing".
Honestly though, even the Super Slow Show never bothered me. It has a different feel to it, sure, but it's still fun. That said, I do think the Planet Slow Mo is a better format for the channel; it does feel a bit more natural, it's got more interesting locations instead of being all on one set, and it's nice having the filming video separated from the analysis video. But it's all good really :)

It's insanely hard to script a cat....mostly because they insist on sitting/lying on the paperwork....Or shredding it, depending on the cat.

I don't know why I'm so fascinated by how good Gavin is as a speaker. It's just so easy to understand what he's getting at all the time. Just me?
Reminds me of the time Top Gear won an award for "best unscripted show" and Clarkson said "We were unable to be there to accept the award because we were too busy writing the scripts for next season." But yeah, not scripted, but rehearsed/multiple-take ad-libs. Or writing the script on the fly, if you want to think of it that way.
My assumption is they had topics and pointers to read up on before the show and then use their own words to get from one topic to another
I actually remember this. Man, brings back the nostalgia. Clarkson's Top Gear will always be the REAL Top Gear. Not a big fan of the new ones.
The kicker was, they had planned to send their script editor, Richard Porter to accept it, but BBC corporate ended up sending someone instead..
Some of the jokes are scripted, I remember in one of the "Cool wall segment" Clarkson discretely reminding Hammond to make the joke about a car being designed with a ruler by telling him "ruler, ruler" quietly but you can hear it
I think the show was more scripted than it seemed, but it was good scripting and it allowed them to be funny as themselves a lot of time

That was a cool surprise at the end to see The Slowmo Guys getting sponsored by kiwico! Very fitting. We started using kiwico a few months ago and love it! Such a neat idea. Had a ton of fun with the youngster, and you could really see his creativity glowing.
Riffing off camera and then rehearsing that is sort of a form of scripting, but I don't remember it bothering me. Doing multiple takes is a normal part of filming and I trust you to put together the best version when you're editing.
Also, is anyone else seeing Gavin turn purple or is my phone broken?

I don't think he's doing it to uphold his reputation, I think he's doing it for those interested in what goes on behind the scenes, they don't really need to prove themselves, the quality is in the end result, and really it wouldn't matter if they scripted it, to me, I'd rather that, than have them, not have a plan of what they were doing, not know how describe what they are seeing, or having to trail and error their way through because they'd forgotten to bring key things they didn't account for..🤷♂️ even if it was scripted, It doesn't come across scripted I don't think..

Well that ad read hardly seemed scripted. He just spoke about the product to try and sell it (would work for me if I had the funds available to buy it) AH do scripted ad reads but from what I know, Gav doesn't use scripted ad reads, he only does ads for products he knows about and uses his knowledge of the product for the ad

This is actually really interesting, to get an idea how you think from the editing perspective already while still shooting first reactions. That's remarkable.
Big diff between planing out all the interactions before hand (what I would think of as 'scripted') and deciding, that sounded weird/incomplete, lets do it again

I think silica packets are bad for cats, better safe than sorry. You've probably already removed them from the basket by now though, but maybe this knowledge can help someone else.

I'm Tamas from Hungary, I watch your videos even from the start, when you guys were back in England, in the backyards, watching exploding spray bottles in slow motion. I remember when Dan have burned his legs with hot oil or something like that, when you were shooted with paintball point blank on your leg, and I can remember even your first videos.
I thing that you guys are in the status when you don't have to explain anything. On the internet, especially on youtube always were and always will be some guys who don't like what you guys doing. They always write to comments what they think, even if it's good or not.
But trust me, that doesn't matter. What matters is that here on youtube you guys, Dan and You are the best in slow motion videos and you guys have a lot of fans, who always waiting for new content. You guys also have a few friends who believes in you and help you guys when you need, SmarterEveryDay for example. Long Story short. We love these kind of "backstage" videos, when you explain about your job, how you doing that and I especially love those videos when you explain some technical details like frame per seconds, lights, cameras ect.
So carry on making these videos but not because some "bad guys" in the comment section roasting your job. We love you guys, keep up the good work!

Honestly you guys are, by far, the most consistently good and funny content creators on CZcams. You’ve been on it since the very start making (fairly) regularly released content and it’s all been brilliant. So, even if your stuff was scripted, I wouldn’t care, it’s all brilliant and hilarious (including planet slow mo and super slow show... don’t understand how people don’t like them). So the fact that it isn’t just increases my positive opinion of you. Please keep it up I need more slow mo 🙌🙌

People are confusing "scripted" with "edited." Not the same thing. I love you guys! Your videos keep quarantine fun!
People are too cynical, demanding and feel entitled these days and when something doesn't satisfy them, then there obviously has to be something wrong with the video and yet not their wrongful processing of it. To an extent, everything is scripted even if it's not written - there needs to be things asked, things covered, responses, times windows for responses/reactions and if there is not an order, it's a complete mess. Working with friends is a bit easier as you know how they work, the space they need for their reaction and how to ensure things flow well. People are too cynical even if you just have a list of keywords, you need to follow, even before you press record on the main camera.
