They both stopped and got that blank look on their face when the speaker came on. That's how you know they actually worked there, because everyone who works at a grocery store does that to try and hear what they said.
As a current Waitrose partner, watching you walk around it and talk about the day to day stuff makes me feel really happy for some reason, and simultaneously reminds me I need to get a new job ASAP.
Imagine looking out of your window and seeing Gavin and Dan assessing and pointing at your new house from the sidewalk. Im not sure if thats creepy or awesome
literally every british small town is..."pub...pub...pub....tesco's...pub...pub...sainsburies.....pub..pub...used to be a pub but now is a wine bar....petrol station....pub...pub...pub...pub...grandparents home...pub...pub"
Tyus Stevens well...i dont know if you can call "converted church hall that fits a class of 16 children in it" a school but yes i must have forgot it XD
Did anyone else notice the slightly annoyed/grumpy face of Dan when Gavin mentioned the jewellery store? Did Dan have a bad breakup after spending a bit at that store?
Sometimes you'll sit in a pub and think "fuck, it's well shit in here", then go to another pub. Makes no difference though, you'll be back in that same pub the next week.
ahahah Lived in England for few years and I actually found out that it's the least pedestrian friendly country compared to rest of Europe. Some roads don't even have a pavement and motorist would rage at you if you walked on the road.
I like how you are like oh yeah lets walk here and there. When in America it is like lets drive 30 minutes this way then 50 minutes that way to get half way to the quarter point of my friends dads house
+SAM STRECKER As an American who moved to Iceland, this is so unbelievably true. Icelanders complain if the drive to get somewhere takes more than 15 minutes. To me, 15 minute drives are nothing. I used to drive 35 minutes to get to work in the morning and about an hour to get back home in the evening. I love being able to just walk everywhere now
+SAM STRECKER I have a friend that lives in Hawaii, Still technically america, but You see. It is a small island. and she told me that she falls asleep if the drive is any longer than like 30 minutes. So When I told her that I went on a 16 hour rode trip from Georgia( south eastern coast) to Austin Texas she froze up a bit. She couldn't even really wrap her mind around that concept of having to drive so long to get somewhere. also, FYI there is 1(one) Krispy Kreme in all of Hawaii.
I've been living in Thame since 2018 and this video is the most surreal thing, no matter how many times I watch it. In fact, it only gets weirder the more familiar with the town I become. I went down the high street just today.
That was fucking top. More of this please, simple to make, interesting to watch and so satisfying to hear about how it started/your youth/the early days etc.
Amazing to see where it al started you guys are doing amazing! imagine working in a random store and meeting someone and both have an amazing idea and just try it out and it explodes like you guys. Amazing !!
This video gives me good memories as my grandparents lived near Thame, so I spent a lot of time there. Probably walked past you guys a few times in the past.
it's weird watching this again after having worked in Thame for a year now.. just opposite the 6 bells. before I did, this was just another town, but now I know every single shop/pub in it, and 6 bells is definitely the best
I grew up not far from Thame. Beautiful village surrounded by countryside. With the accents and a couple of the early videos, I guessed Buckinghamshire but didn't really think Thame. Spot on guys keep it up.
I think the giant balloon video filmed in your old garden was the first video I saw, or at least the one that got me interested in your videos. You've come a long way, hats off to you both.
Typical England and our love for pubs - everyone not from the UK must think we are all alcoholics :P It was lovely to see how Slow Mo Guys started. Could not stop laughing at all your stories
+Hannah & Leon Vlogs I'm pretty sure most of us are alcoholics... And that's including England, Ireland and Scotland. Maybe not Wales, they're too friendly.
+Colin Schroeder (aKiDnamedCoLiN) Like previously mentioned, weather can be utter shite. BUT if you like pubs and walking about, I'd recommend Newcastle. Really any part of Newcastle. Just be aware that we have thick accents that can make it really rough for Americans to understand us. We're like people from London except we have a tennis ball in our mouth.
This should motivate me to get a better life doing what I like, but for some reason it does the exact opposite... Pulled me down a bit.. But I cant help but feeling happy for you 2... At least you managed to be happy
Thanks for bringing the housing problem to light - it really is a huge issue in the UK, especially London. I don't think people in the US quite understand just how expensive houses are over here. Unless you buy a house with a partner who's also well-off, you have no chance of buying a house until you're into your 30s.
+SB 90s I think it really depends where you live. All the houses in Oxfordshire are incredibly expensive. However, houses in places like Manchester aren't actually too expensive in comparison
Widgemyster True, particularly further up north of the UK it gets much cheaper, but still far more expensive than the US when comparing like-for-like size and quality. I live in London and just graduated into my first job. I've gone into the investment banking field, but even then I probably won't be able to buy a house in London by myself until I'm close to 30, maybe even beyond. God knows what the majority of Londoners are going to do...
Most of this stems from overseas buyers investing in property then not using or selling it. its like 60% of housing in England is being unsold, and about 30% of that statistic are empty
jurr!! Really? So a small 2 bedroom terraced house in the one of the worst suburbs of the city costs upwards of $700k? The UK has a fairly unique problem in that it's a very small country with a high population, where the average wage is also fairly high compared to the rest of the developed world. Simple demand and supply theory leads to rapidly rising housing prices. But then you may think that if houses become too expensive for most of the UK to buy, prices must come down. But no, it's because the top 5% of wealth in the UK and thousands of foreign wealth are buying up multiple properties to rent out or sell on for a profit to other wealthy people around the world. London is one of the most desirable locations for the wealthy elite across the world, and it just pushes prices up beyond the reach of the normal UK residents.
+gia. Don't feel too bad, Thame is quite high on the niceness scale compared to some other places over here. About average on quantity of pubs though ;)
That Quick Check thing as you walked in the Entrance. A store called Albertsons in the US had those back in 2002 for some time, they were awesome. But people kept using them to get away with more than they were scanning and so the stores shut down the program. :( I loved using those as a kid. Its cool that they still exist in that manner in todays world. I know some stores in the US have switched to a cell phone method of this type but not ever location offers it and I liked the handset scanner vs using a phone. My area doesn't offer the cell check out yet all we have at the moment is store pick up and self check out.
I wish I could see this kind of super casual self-interview between other hosts and actors. Like Myth busters origins in detail, Joss Whedon and cast, and things like that. It's such a cool way to paint a picture, much more relate able than "I had $1.5 in my pocket now I have 3 Lamborghinis in my garage"
This is why I respect you so much. You're very well grounded and haven't allowed fame to distort your perspective. I thoroughly enjoyed this.

But no, it's because the top 5% of wealth in the UK and thousands of foreign wealth are buying up multiple properties to rent out or sell on for a profit to other wealthy people around the world.
London is one of the most desirable locations for the wealthy elite across the world, and it just pushes prices up beyond the reach of the normal UK residents.
england buildings are so nice compared to our concrete starbucks design
+gia. Don't feel too bad, Thame is quite high on the niceness scale compared to some other places over here. About average on quantity of pubs though ;)
mikskywalker hah ok, im still moving there.
Unlucky.
+Keep Our Internet's Freedom! What's the weather like in Thame? Still cool like the rest of England?
....and a lot more expensive apparently. (according to what they say in the video)
