I've always been into 'Can You Beat' challenges, but they don't always cover games I want to see challenges of, or do it in the way I would. To that end I decided to take Prototype and try to beat it without using my powers.
Powers, as designated by the game, are: Claws, Hammerfist, Musclemass, Whipfist, Blade, Shield, Armour, Thermal Vision and Infect Vision. I also go ahead and exclude Devastators on top of that.
This challenge made the game pretty slow so I wouldn't recommend you doing this yourself although I would recommend playing Prototype period if you haven't already (even though the story is actually kind of a mess). That actually ends up meaning most of this video has very little to do with the actual challenge, but people don't really watch for that, they just click on the video for that, I feel. At lot of interesting things happened anyway, and the challenge really did start inhibiting me by the end.
This took me so much time (making this into a video, not the actual gameplay) especially with my inexperience, so this really taught me a lot...I guess. I think this whole process probably would have gone more smoothly if I had written a script. At least I had the forethought to write notes. Also I don't understand audio at all. I had to render this so many times because audio distortion kept happening when I did. There's still one tiny blip towards the end and if I can edit it out in CZcams Studio I will. If I can't, I think I'm okay with taking it on the chin, I've already spent over a week working on this like it's a full-time job. With that in mind, if you want more you should really like, subscribe and whatnot. Even though I despise when creators tell me to do that. I've got like, 25 subs though, so such things are actually pretty pivotal for a channel of my size.
There were also a lot more glitches in this game then I remember. Honestly I have a theory that using a capture card strains the game somehow. I played the port of this game on the PS4, so maybe the port is just not optimised well? I don't know.

The game is literally hard enough as it is (for me, at least, being bad at it) and having played it multiple times myself, I just couldn't wait for the missions I really struggled with doing WITH powers to see just how you'd do it and what an amazing video. The amount of patience and skill this took is insane!
Yeah that first encounter with the hunters was a headache. Not a full on nightmare like the fight with Greene herself, but it was pretty annoying the first time i played this.

You can actually hijack tanks easily when you are shapeshifted into a military personnel. Just make sure you are not currently in alert mode. Alex will just open the hatch immediately without having to click on the left mouse button.

*Watching this i was like damn dude did not use all his weapons he had at his disposal like cannonball, flying kicks, the uppercut combo or dashing around enemies to land attacks from varying angles etc. But meh he did good enough*

7:25 you don't need your whipfist to highjack the helicopters. You can just charge a flying kick and hold B(or circle) before reaching them to grab them instead of kicking them.

*Rewatching this and i want to add i often brat this game with no powers and even sometimes without projectiles or vehicles i just know that its harder and takes longer without vehicles etc. So i feel you did a great job here*

Never really saw this game before, seems really neat and reminds me of City of Heroes, bet they added the bio-armor power set because of this game, visually the styles seem similar. Really well done video, best of luck to you.
Man I love this game so much. I wish they made a 3rd one. I always thought they could have it be based on Alex in between Prototypes 1 and 2, and showcase how he got so much more powerful and got all the powers. I also think it could be a good way to implement more mechanics like expanding on the disguise/stealth aspects for when it comes to infiltrating and acquiring more soldiers for Alex's own personal army thing he's got going on. Hell, i've even thought about the idea of a GTAV like Prototype where you make your own person that Alex integrated into his army and then can run around the map with your friends like gods. So much potential in this series.

For someone who loves this game you don't seem too aware of the various things you can do in it. You can cancel an midair kick with a grab to hijack helicopters super easily.

Great idea for a challenge , cool video
Prototype was a delightful pile of chaos always. I do feel like you've made this challenge a lot harder on yourself than necessary, as you seem to not have been aware of a lot of non-power abilities that can make your life much easier in the game. There's a lot of generic combat abilities that are actually very strong / situationally very useful:
Cannonball: basically works like flipkick, but deals somewhat more damage. Can be used directly before or after a flipkick in the air as well. This chain is very strong against helicopters, but also hunters.
Bulletdive drop: want to take out tanks in one shot without any powers? as long as you have significant altitude this will deal a significant chunk of AoE damage.
Knuckle shockwave / groundshatter: These deal damage in a small AoE around you, but are particularly nice because they'll knock back everything around you. Like if you need a bunch of infected to chill so you can pick something up ;)
You know the input for most of these already: They're the precursor abilities you need to buy for each devastator, as the devastators are the fully charged version of cannonball/knuckle shockwave/groundshatter. That's why people often forget they exist in the game. But even without powers equipped all of these are actually pretty strong. And with musclemass equipped they're absolutely cracked.

Not gonna lie, this was a great button masher for it's time. Only problem was it got ocassionally dull.
Can you beat Prototype without killing civilians? It’s a trackable statistic in the game. Good thing Prototype is the only game “dangerous” enemies drop health orbs 😂
Fun fact: Web of Intrigue targets don’t count towards civilian kills or consumes.
So far the lowest amount of civilian kills I ended Prototype with was 321. Tank missions and World Set Free were a massive pain because civilians do not think.

Under the Knife mission was really easy. U made it look so hard lol. That mission could have been completed without alert. FYI: I tried this challenge, and not gonna lie, it was not really that difficult if u know some tips and tricks, although it was annoying and pointless though.

It's a good thing adrenaline surge isn't in the power category, because it's clutch AF and the amount of times it can save the player from certain death is uncountable. It's also like the only thing that saves you from being 1 shot by Elizabeth's supersonic attack (or whatever it is) and Taggart's tank, and also doesn't allow Supreme Hunter's devastator attack to stunlock you to death if you got caught in it. So if you hate yourself and plan on doing a "no upgrades" run, hopefully you'll think about this and realize that maybe you don't hate yourself that much lol (though, if memory serves me right, adrenaline surge is one of the "core" upgrades, like the devastators, so it's possible that the game may force the player to get it at some point, Idk)
I never knew that the "City nuked" cutscene will play (aside from time limit reaching zero) if Alex dies in final fight, damn. Pretty neat way to know that everyone's fate is on your shoulders and that, uhh, you kinda fucked up right now xD
With no upgrades Greene would take eons. Not only cuzza health and adrenaline surge but also cuzza not having vehicle upgrades

Btw, forgot to state it in my first comment, but I fucking LOVE musclemass. It feels like not using Alex's powers (claws, blade and etc.), just relying on his own physical abilities, except now they actually hurt like hell. It's effective to slaughter a hunter with blade quickly, but it's so satisfying to take your time and just beat the shit out of it with your basic attacks and combos.

I really wish people would give the prototype franchise the respect it deserves. I found out about prototype after i played through the infamous series

@@ShockWingman The shield counter in P2 make no power run much easier than P1 unless that shield still count as power lol. With that shield you can just cheese through almost all type of enemy and punch them to death no pressure with the exceptions are hydras and that one type of infected where you get the shield power from (i forgot its name),even the boss Alex too.

I tried a no ability run on both prototype 1 and 2. 2 is much easier to do.
The dodging mechanic is a life-saver, difference between 1 and 2 is 2 doesn't have those annoying ass hunters where they barrage you with attacks and those fucking death machines disguised as tanks and gunships, literally it's like a Gatling gun but with missiles for bullets
What you consider to be or not to be a power is so inconsistent that drags out the fun of it.
Shape shifting, consuming, all these are powers even if you call then "utility powers".

The only thing that pissess me off from this game is that there's no cooldown on the fucking strike team unlike the 2nd game where like 2 or 3 sometimes 4 before they go in a cooldown, another thing that pissess me off is the tank being a fucking gatling gun but with missiles.

Honestly you can't beat most of these missions in hard mode easily without powers especially defeating Elisabeth Gerne that's the hardest mission with no powers💀. I had completed this game with no powers in 11.5 hrs straight 🥵 in hard mode💀
I believe insane is the hardest mode of which you unlock after finishing the game and i beat it with no powers not easily but still did its a verrry hard challenge id say try it with muscle mass only and it gets more feasible.
