Prototype was an incredibly fun game. Jumping over buildings, lifting trucks, shrugging off tank missiles like it's nothing... Wish there was a third game tbh
Same. I mean there hasn't really been a Prototype-esque game for a while, there's been things that were extremely close ala Saints Row 4, but nothing really quite like it.
Just give me another superpower sandbox game... that's all I ask. Like, this and Infamous were the only two good ones. This is a genre that has untapped potential, especially as hardware gets more powerful and you can do more things with physics and powers and stuff... WHY DID IT DIE????
Agreed, reminds me vaguely of infamous I think it was called, played through the whole infamous son or sun one, with either good boy or evil man route

4:47 those are AC units, specifically a package air conditioner. For a Midwestern US home you probably have a split system with a box called a condenser or heat pump outside and a box called a furnace or fan coil inside, usually in the attic. Most commercial buildings probably have package AC if you get a chance to look on the roof.

@@Crocodile40000 When yer building is 20 floors tall and doesn't have windows that open, air conditioning is rather important for keeping the air inside the building fresh (or even breathable in some cases).

@@TheSoCalledZoner1 And also just large roads. If 10 000+ cars drive along a road on any given day, their exhaust also substantually pollutes the air.
And if you have 20+ floors of office space or housing in a building, AC is also important reguardless of the quality of the air outside because the CO2 exhaled by people in the building can build up and cause dangerous air quality issues. Factories that emit air pollution are definatly a major factor and even if they aren't directly causing a building to require AC cause said AC to be bigger and require better air filters.
Final note: AC can actually be an energy-efficient way to heat a space. Other types of heater need to be really hot to spread their heat throughout a large area, but heating done inside an AC unit doesn't need to be so extreme because the unit can use its ability to shift air to directly spread the warm air instead of having to make the nearby air really hot to make that air warm up the air further away.
Infamous series is the next best thing to prototype. Not nearly as crazy, but still can make you feel like a god with the amount of powers they give you
Infamous felt less over the top but still a lot of fun and interesting story, i really wondered what happened to the game.

@@TheDarkMaster312 for infamous I don't think it was funding. Sucker Punch made Ghosts of Tsushima which looks like it had a good budget and did well critically and commercially. I think they just decided to move on to new IPs

God i remember playing this game for hours and hours on end. I didnt even speak english at the time and my dad pirated it for me but i fucking loved just running around and causing chaos. Good video too.

Prototype was by far one of favorite games I love games where I’m not some baby boy hiding in the corner hoping I don’t die from some monster but being. A monster killing baby boys is right up my alley
Prototype and infamous were pretty memorable for me back in the day
I always felt like infamous was one or two ticks up into story and one or two ticks down on over the top crazy wild powers, compared to prototype
Prototype 2 is a guilty pleasure. That final boss fight is fucking great.
Prototype 2 personally was meh for me mainly due to what happened to mercer

God prototype was such a fun game
Prototype has one of the best movement systems I can think of. The running is pretty fluid. The gliding feels good. The air dashing helps to extend and re-orient Mercer in flight. One of the best ways I found to maintain air speed and height as well was to charge your super jump and aim for walls. You would go fly up a decent amount when jumping from the ground, but you would launch a ridiculous amount if you jumped up from a wall.
If you were in a residential area with a bunch of low buildings, then I would aim for the sides of buildings I was approaching and fly way up in the air again to continue my flight.
I do miss it a ton, it's been so many years since it came out and still hardly any game invokes the same feeling of sheer joy as just playing through Prototype. It's just a blast to play, even if it was an angsty teenagers power fantasy :P

After all these years I just realized. If you play this game using only the Shield or Claw power, you're basically playing as Captain America or Wolverine with some extra abilities wall running and gliding

Those "blocks" are commercial air conditioner units. To be fair, since you're from a rural town, it's entirely understandable that you'd have zero idea what they are.

Shame that the infested/military controlled zones that are projected by bases are mostly for show (red or blue filter on the screen lmao), it would be cool if the player had to put in actual effort to prevent either of the sides from growing too strong. I love these kinds of "enemy mine" scenarios.
Elizabeth Geeene mommy boss reminds me of the GRAD at the end of the elevator fight in Revengeance in terms of sheer unfunnism of fighting them. The difference is that Greene is a mandatory boss in the game's progression while that particular GRAD unit requires actual effort and stubborness to encounter at all and is only required for a bragging rights score, so it's kinda a joke that it's a grind.

It's honestly super badass to play, I'm still waiting for a Prototype 3 because there still has not been a game to satisfy a sequel to this game. Fittingly its in its own little corner by itself, probably quietly whispering some edgy Linkin Park or Breaking Benjamin to itself while it watches Battle Royales and MOBAs have fun or something.
Was planning to do something similar to this myself, nice to see other people still remember this franchise and experiment with it like I do. Great video!
The greene fight even with all upgrades, is just a huge pain in the ass. Fighting it normally causes the camera to go crazy and it took me like an half hour to beat
I mean in ultimate Spiderman you can consume an old lady, fight military men, smack folk around with big fuckoff tentacles, and throw cars off of buildings

Just coming in to let you know I beat Prototype on Hard without powers or consumption so you didn’t have to. It’s possible but the final Supreme Hunter mission was pure suffering plus I had to put in more effort because the timer shortens the harder the game is played on. I will not play Prototype on hard without powers or consuming WITHOUT buying regeneration.

Haven't started watching but unless there are scripted sequences that force you to, the answer sounds like "yes absolutely". From memory this game was very easy and I'd do shit like that while playing just to spice things up since it's mostly a murder sandbox.
But I wouldn't be surprised if some specific sections require you to use a power because they desperately want to make you look cool so that might be a problem.

LESGOOOOOOOOOO @PROTOTYPETER @DARKCROW LESGOOOOOOOO ive already tried it on hard with no deaths and NO upgrades, its fucking challenging! However Ive tried using unarmed melee (no musclemass boost) with the supreme hunter, and here is where things get shitty af, you CANT clear the timer because the normal melee attacks doesnt deal enough damage to defeat supreme hunter in time.. is quite tedious actually

But I do agree with you saying the Supreme Hunter cannot be defeated with bare hands punches only on hard, some guy claims he's beaten the Supreme Hunter on Hard with "bare fists only" (meaning combo attacks only) which I find completely false unless he used throwing, weapons or helicopters which would make sense.

I actually played most of the game without any powers, just melee combos, throwing stuff, and weapons + vehicles. I didnt like Alex's 3D model and preferred to basically use a soldier's body and roleplay mostly as some sort of posthuman super soldier. It wasnt too hard. Though I didnt do this like a challenge, I still used the powers when the game really heavily wanted me to use em :P
