All I ask is you please give this a listen on good headphones or in the car, it just hits better that way.
I am ashamed to say that I had not truly discovered the late great Jimmy Buffet’s music until after he died. I mean yeah, I had heard his stuff here and there, but never had I delved into his catalog, drank in his lyrics, and analyzed what all went into his music until just recently.
Needless to say I fell in love, the guys ability to paint a picture with words paired with that smooth as glass voice, gave me new found inspiration.
Turns out, Jimmy and I have a few things in common to the point where it’s almost weird.
We were both born Christmas Day (he’s exactly 50 years older than me), we both write about food (which like, nobody does), and we both add a few beats or a measure here and there in our writing style.
Which upon discovering this was especially weird for me to realize because he’s been virtually no influence over my music whatsoever so far.
Another fun fact, my song “Rednexico” had actually bounced off of his desk at one time and legend has it he considered cutting it. Wow
Anyways, I absolutely love this song along with Jimmy’s whole catalog, and I hope you feel we did it justice.
Oh one last thing, I would be remiss if I did not shout out the boys in the band on this one, in my opinion the execution and happy-go-lucky feel of this song went swimmingly. It goes to show how when a group of cats get together with a shared goal, they can create something that’s far bigger than anything they could be on their own.
Bravo boys, you guys make me look a lot cooler than I really am.
