- EU4 Mzab is one of the only Ibadi nation in EU4, opening up the path for the Third Way and Unlikely Candidate achievements. This start is definitely up there with Granada and Byzantium in terms of difficulty, but if you can make it past the initial challenge, then you can raid coasts and attempt to form Andalusia - though beware of Castile and Aragon. Morocco is also a threat. Bascially you're not going to fare well because this is one of the hardest starts in EU4.

I want to believe that he is this good, but then again, ironman is disabled. He could very well be using console commands to cheat.

Using console commands to cheat is things like literally giving yourself free cash or free manpower. Actual cheating.
@@daltonmiller5590 I meant that having ironman turned off isn't necessarily used for actual cheating, but also for a cheeky little save scum. Or, in my case, because I like playing without lucky nations.
You were actually quite lucky. From my experience what happens for like 85% of the time is that touggurt allies tlemcen and fezzan and after winning this war you are immediately declared by Tunis.
I mean he did get declared on by Tunis, and almost went bankrupt. Not denying he was very lucky but skill was the major factor

If Oman's trade steering wasn't so good, I'd argue that Pate is the best choice if going for Third Way. Starting position looks bad, but you have a CoT with farmlands to develop and can form Somalia which has really solid ideas and the ability to raid coasts.

I thought Andalusia atleast had some Missionary Strength in its ideas for converting Sunni and Shia provinces and for dealing with when the Iberians decide to ship Moroccans off to Cuba, but Andalusia doesnt have any and the Expel Minorities annoyance can be fixed by turning Golden Century off.
I wonder why every YTer who does Third Way always does Mzab. Only YTer AFAIK who has done not Mzab is DDRJake who did Pate
@@punishedwhirligig3353 Mzab can also get the Unlikely Candidate achievement for forming Andalusia.
@@punishedwhirligig3353 I also forgot, Pate has the option to become a steppe horde. Horde cb/Razing + Coast raiding is the closest thing you can get to playing orcs in Eu4. I think they like Mzab because it's closest to Renaissance + better trade nodes than Oman or Pate.
"Not as hard as Granada"?! I disagree, Granada is fairly easy in comparison, because you can get allies. I'm very impressed with how well you did in this run.

Man they should allow ibadi nations in North Africa to form rustamid imamate or an emirate of tahert perhaps to reflect on history as rustamids spread ibadism in North Africa until fatimids arrived and their capital was tahert

Tell me about it bro, I unfortunately ran out of time to complete the third way as a province was converted to Sunni after 1790 😞
I had the same issue but it got converted in 1817, so i truce breaked the ottomans and made sure that province was the last one they owned and then i used force religion and got the achievment on the last moment

I did the Unlikely Candidate just the other day as Mzab. Got so unlucky with Morocco and Tunis allying both eachother and the Ottomans early on. Castille entering a pu under Austria, and France getting eaten up by Great Britain and Burgundy, The Ottomans controlling all of Egypt in 1520 + all kinds of bad events. Took ages to control North Africa and slowly building up my powerbase. Didnt manage to get southern Spain until the 1700's when I could finally form Al-Andalus.
Oh and I formed Algiers partway through. Switched the capital to the coast where it was easier devving.

Keep going with this campaign till you form Andalusia! There's some achievement with Mzab. Not to mention the Ibadi achievement called The Third Way or sth. But most of all keep it up so we can see what unexpected nation will become a powerhouse.
To show how overpowered Mzab is you should totally create colonial empire in part 2!
i played that one only until i formed andalusia and i got lucky that no iberian wedding fired
this one is probably the hardest start, especially cause at least one of the north african nations will ally the ottomans
Played a mzab game recently for the third way achievement and I got declared on by Tunis really early, I had only just annexed tougert. Was about to restart but I thought what the hell ill try... I somehow won the siege race taking kef and tunis before they took mzab. I couldn't believe my luck. I even managed to unsiege the war goal as well which gave me loads of warscore. That was a great start

I once played Mzab. You need to get a foothold in italy, next you exploit genoa trade node.
I've never seen a more helpful enemy.
Laith you did forgot an Ibadi Nation at the coast of Afrcia close to Kilwa.
Play Urbaino ( the italian one province minor and vassel of the pope) it depends on RNG if the start is hard or easy but its fun

Did al andalus awhile ago. Spent 175 years in debt riding just above bankruptcy before I formed it
I've done Mzab into Tunis into Al-Andalus and did the Third Way achievement
Only took like 300+ tries
Keep playing this save, has a lot of potential. Wasn't there a third way achievement? + Unlikely candidate. Would be a waste to waste this god run.

Mzab was easily one of the hardest nations I've ever played, and I'm so glad to see you've given it a shot!
One tip though: changing nation to Algiers is good as it moves your capital to a much better province.
This. But I generally lean more towards vassalising Tunis and eating up Morocco (which also relocates the capital) to form it before Al Andalus.
Should've grabbed some corruption to ease the loans. 😅
IDEA start as French/Muscovy’s vassals with other CZcamsrs and then try to get your independence and conquer them
could you consider upping the UI scale a bit? it is a bit small to see, especially on a phone screen

I suffer the same thing so I cant talk much...
I have tried this like 4 times now and every single time, touggort gets either morocco or tunis as an ally before i can attack them and although i can defeat either of them with some smart battles and mercenary spam, the other ends up declaring war on me before i even have time to recover or *core my newly acquired provinces* . I don't like restarting my games, but this is getting really annoying...

So this wasn’t a hard run for me, and it was so much fun, especially you can form Tunis on the way to form other nations. It was until I did the Florryworry No BALLS challenge. It took me a very long time just to beat up the Beber nations right before I got destroyed by Castile (needed more galleys and I could’ve won.)
This campaign is unsuccessful until you establish Berber Brazil

Are you serious? You can easily get an alliance with Ottos as Granada and then Castile won't dare to attack you
The start is pretty RNG, but once you win a war against Tunis shit is easy street.
My guy really spent 50 mil to fabricate claims on 3 dev desert provinces lol, not sure u even get a -10% discount when it’s already such low dev.
Shoulda spent it rolling a general or getting mil tech 4 first.
