I locked all of Europe in a cage until only one country remained EU4 AI Only Timelapse

  • Warning: There's a bit of a strobe because of the winter cycle. I did my best to reduce it but I can't make it go away entirely. I made a graphical mod that should fix this issue going forward.
    This is actually the third attempt at a timelapse, the first one I left the outside world to run and the Mamluks built a canal that allowed the Europeans to escape. The second attempt I forgot about the crossing at Gibraltar and the Portuguese escaped. It was kind of sad because of how the others were turning out was really quite interesting. I plan to do a number of these matches if they prove to be popular. What region would you like to see next?
    The wall is here, though the mod doesn't remove any countries:steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...

    • @romeosgs1452

      Not really. England is unique. What did it give Japan? Or Taïwan, or any island really. Its only useful as long as the continent is too busy killing itself.

    • @Amnok
      @Amnok Před 2 lety +12

      @@romeosgs1452 Simple. Island nation is relatively easy to establish a long lasting order after dealing with some internal conflict, because of their unique culture and difficultly to escape abroad as an outlaw, in general, islanders tend to obey the system more often. It's political isolation and sea as a natural moat can defend outside invaders cost effectively. Geographic situation concentrate them to develop maritime tradition and invest in commerce which is a critical key to build a thriving nation. Easy to defend, easy to attack, utilize continental conflict to earn a profit, strong maritime and commerical tradition, relatively stable politics. This is a key reason why Britain and Japan consequently became a global powerhouse.
      Of course, in game and vice versa.

    • @romeosgs1452
      @romeosgs1452 Před 2 lety +5

      @@Amnok yeah, as I said, England is unique, this shit only works in games, not in reality, Japan was a backward state constantly in civil war with no centralised power for most of its history, the only reason it became a power house, and it didn't even do so 100 years, was because the continent started being divided, that's it. Island's are good for trade? No, good locations are good for trade, its not because they are islands its because they are usually closer to the coast, no different than a port city such as the ones the Dutch have the Greeks had, or really most countries. Islands that only concentrate on trade usually get conquered, and they are much more prone to backwardness, isolation, and any natural disasters. Go read history books.

    • @romeosgs1452
      @romeosgs1452 Před 2 lety

      @@Amnok you mixed up being an island and being on the coast. And there is no source that I know of about islanders obeying a system more often, or having a unique culture. Japan has the ainu and a culture of obedience that comes from China, not an island. Taiwan got its culture destroyed in less than 100 years. England was divided for quite long, barely unified and split once and might still split more.

    • @Amnok
      @Amnok Před 2 lety +1

      @@romeosgs1452 First of all, Japan was not a backward state compared to it's neighbors. Not to mention Korea, it is Chinese to go backwards and deny to imbrace foreign ideas. In contrast, Japan consistantly traded with Portuguese,Dutch merchants and had a strong trade ties with southeast asia. Although Japan closed their nation until Americans came, they had the most advanced army and technology throughout east aisa.

    I hate how even after defeating russia a few times it still took them 2000 years to conquer all of it

      @EU4T  Před 3 lety +2

      I can, but the mod only makes the wall. I manually removed all the other countries via the console before starting. Once my current timelapse finished I can upload it if you're still interested.

    • @stefanoabrigo
      @stefanoabrigo Před 3 lety +1

      @@EU4T That would be great! The countries are not really a problem, I'll just remove them via console too and make a backup save if I want to do another game in the future. Does this work for the latest patch?

    • @EU4T
      @EU4T  Před 3 lety +2

      This is 1.30.6. Leviathan is finally stable enough for my timelapses to run reliably but the game still runs about 33% slower in 1.31 so I can't get myself to commit yet.

    It's clear from this video that the AI has no idea how to manage governing capacity. I'm pretty sure that's why they kept peacing out for like 3 provinces at a time.
