    For any of you low price guys like me... Johnson Marquis JM60 is the same format, and though old has the same setup ... tube preamp section with the amp types fx modulation and reverb and a 12" 80W (I think) speaker AND although you'll need a good back to move it around, when mic'd at a gig.. you've got the world at your fingertips... add a midi pedal... the jm8 or jm12 and you can turn on and off the fx/mod/rev and switch channels ... can be had on Craigslist regularly for $300 or less if patient.... Thanks Phillip for this video... and ALL of your wonderful videos ... super helpful always and as soon as I have a hit recording/video/score lol I'd totally rather run something like this straight into the board with my church rig or at any travel situation/applicables. Love ya'lls

Sometimes sadly enough cutting edge technology doesn't survive but gets appreciated 10 years later, hopefully that won't be the case here. Thomas is gentleman, great guitarist and amp designer. The thing that still gets me about this amp is that you’d still need to drag effects pedals and a cab to

    • @guitarworks2546
      @guitarworks2546 Před 4 lety +3

      not quite......I use the AMP1 on a pedalboard with a Line6 HX effects as my entire "stomp box" arsenal with the speaker out injected into a Torpedo CabM cabinet simulator...it ends up being very portable and lightweight, and you can DI out of the Torpedo and use monitors instead of dragging a cab...nevertheless, I DO have a 100W single 112 cab that I like to use...but it is also very lightweight and that is the main focus...after 40+ years of gigging with everything under the sun...this is one of the best all purpose rigs I have ever used.

      I have a Amp1 in the mail so I can compare once it comes in. I can say the Milkman Amp is ridiculously good. Perfect cleans, the reverb and tremolo are really great and the cab sim sounds great. That last part separates it from a lot of the competition. A lot of these don’t have great cab sims, “too dark” or “sterile.” I also tried the Microblock with a Strymon iridium into a Mesa Thiele and that sounded awesome also. All of these setups sounded great with bass and guitar.
      Of course for the Milkman you need an overdrive because it definitely doesn’t have the distorted tones that this Amp1 has.

    • @johnott193
      @johnott193 Před 4 lety

      InGrindWeCrust2010 yeah I tried it out for a few weeks. It sounds amazing and I think you could get just about any tone you’d want out of it. Ultimately it wasn’t great for my setup. I’d still rather drag around a Deluxe Reverb or Mesa combo with me.
      My 2 favorite products of this type are still the Milkman Amp 50 and Strymon Iridium. Both sound insanely good no matter where you put the knobs. The Milkman nails the Fender sound; and then with that you’d use your pedals in front of it for any overdrive. The iridium is just another perfect Strymon pedal. All the amps, IRs, and rooms sound insanely convincing. Way better than the Helix amp models I’ve played.

    "They were equally loud". This I have a real problem with. The ultimate volume achieved here is much more a limitation of the speaker played through than the amp itself. The speaker and cab is possibly even more important than the amp itself as for volume & tone.

    I've heard it a few times, and this thing definitely has its own sound. Hard to describe, but there's a metallic sheen over some of its overdriven tones that seems to be more pronounced than with other classic amps--not sure if that's the description I'm looking for. Not saying it's better or worse, but yeah, it is its own thing.

      I worked in a music store for years and never saw one, so I'm gonna say it's something you'll have to solder up on your own. The majority of the speaker cabs (not all) I've seen have a recessed input jack that an angled plug won't fit into. If your cab isn't one of those, then the good news is 90 degree ends and speaker cable are found just about everywhere. If you're uncomfortable with making one, or don't have the tools to make one yourself I'm sure your local guitar shop could whip a few up for you fairly cheaply.

Wouldn't it be nice to leave those guys at home (not like they are all that heavy...but you get the point). I want to listen to the clean samples on my home computer because it has far better speakers than what I'm using ATM. For me, an amp's clean abilities are what I'm most interested in using. The issue with class D power amps is not lack of warmth, it is an absence of body and dimension to the final signal output. You'd probably get away with it in a mix, but it's not convincing to me as a player in isolation. IMO Roland TubeLogic, particularly in the Blues Cube, is the best recreation of tube signal processing to date.

      I have an Amp1 Mercury Edition and a Quilter Micropro Mach2 8". (The Tone Blocks are basically one of the voices on the Micropro). Both the Amp1 and Quilter are great amps. The Quilter does better for Fender blackface tones with its Surf setting - but doesn't do very well for heavier Marshall style tones in any setting. The Amp1 nails the various eras of Marshall tones (especially a Plexi) - but the clean tones are more Marshall clean rather than blackface era clean. Regardless, the Amp1's clean tone is still really nice. So, if you're a Marshall fanatic, the Amp1 is the best choice and if you're a Fender fanatic, the Quilter does better. Of the two, my favorite is the Amp1.
