I traded my 5420 tobacco with a gig bag to a guy who had a Epiphone Emperor swingster in orange and a Epiphone hard case and an very happy With the Epiphone ! The cheaper 2622 stream line double cut is way better than the 5420 in every way in my experience of course !

I have had the same exact experience with Gretsch ! I had a Korean 5420 and it was not making the gretsch jangle tone in my vox so when I seen a 2622 stream line double cut for $180 I snagged it up and it's way way better than Korean 5420 ! It is made in Indonesia and just way better than the korean 5420 which was like $1000 more than the stream line guitar.

I play a 5420 for a living and I just love it. Nothing comes close to gretsch for me. I play a huge variety of music covering about 100 years and there is no guitar as versatile. This low end one is all I need for professional playing.

I have been listening since the beginning of Covid, I have learned alot, I enjoy your body of work and honesty. I like your brain and how it works.

I've been eyeing a Gretsch for a while. They sound great in any style but I've been vibing to some rock-a-billy lately and these were made for that sound.

Many stores aren't stocking hard shell cases to go with the guitars they sell anymore. So for Sweetwater to have a case company under their owner ship is good for them. If they have cases that are made for the guitars they sell, they will be doing well because of it. I had to buy 3 SKB hard shell cases from Sweetwater to store the guitars I have, because the retail stores don't have the cases anymore.

During Covid my guitar collection grew from 0 to 7. I stopped playing guitar for about 15 years. Then during Covid I needed to get back to playing to occupy my time. I kept 4 of them and sold 3 that didn't fit my specific needs. I have 3 guitars that are the same brand and model and they all play the same, but have a slightly different volume response when played unplugged. 2 of them have humbuckers and 1 has P90s. So they will sound different when plugged into an amp.

My 5120 ( Korean ) is 12 years old plays Great looks Great sounds Great. 🎼🎸 GRETSCH.❤

Having been a guitarist for well over 50 years, and having owned many vintage New York made Epiphone and vintage Gibson archtops, along with a few Westerly Guilds, and many others, I always check out archtop guitars in music stores (and guitar shows, etc). About 20 or so years ago, when they first came out, I tried a 5420T in our local music store, and do remember being very impressed! I've always wanted to get one, along with an Epi Joe Pass, but probably not happening due to retirement from my old day job (although much more active as a musician, but that won't buy me a new guitar) Maybe some day....However, they are great, and inexpensive, guitars!!!

That was the best review of a guitar I’ve seen! I bought that guitar from Sweetwater and you did a great job describing it with great detail! I swapped out the stock pickups for TV Jones Classic Filtertrons and I couldn’t be more pleased! The stock pickups sound good but are not constructed like an original Filtertron!

No Certified Case for Revstar yet ... I bought a cheap 335 case and made custom inserts/padding to fit the Revstar.

Phil, a few years ago I bought a D'Angelico Premier DC 12 string. It has a MONSTER size headstock, even for a 12 string. Sweetwater had a beautiful classic-looking medium brown leatherette hard shell case. Perfect fit. I have bought several cases from them now. 100% PRO level service.

I have a Gretsch 5420T, Orange, Made in Korea. It is awesome. Perfectly smooth all around and so comfortable to hold. I usually play it unplugged, the tone and resonance are fine even unplugged.

Eastman had this a few years ago. Their AR605/610ce ‘jazz’ hollowbody guitars, instead of being all maple like the 8xx and 9xx series, had a spruce top with mahogany back and sides. And sounded better acoustically, while also sounding better thru the floating pickup. All for roughly half the price of the maple guitars.

The pickups are fine on an AF55. Just drop them down and because they have ceramic magnets they are not muddy. I play jazz on my 55 but even Jimmy Page used ceramic.

I had a Parker Nitefly in the late '90s - early 2000s and it had the best neck of any guitar I have ever owned. Like a dummy I sold it on eBay. I hope to own another one someday.

I am in uk and have had one of these (lefty) for 6yrs. I love it. Something you did not touch on is the weight balance when standing. I find it perfect. Downsides: I had to thin the nut width by about half and very carefully curve the string grooves toward the tuning pegs at the back of the nut to help tuning stability with the bigsby. Secondly, being hollow body it needs time to adjust to temp/hum changes in venues for about an hour to stabilise and this time reduces the older the strings so I keep strings changes to bare minimum. Having said that, I wouldn’t swap it for the world, it has genuine character. ;))

I have the same guitar in light green. They sound great and like everyone says the build quality is really good, mines a few yrs older and has a U-shaped neck. I prefer the C-shaped neck but in reality, it really doesn't make any difference in the sound and is still very playable. Great guitar at a reasonable price. What would 50's and 60's rock be without Gretch

Don't pay sweetwater 899 for a guitar that will soon be on sale again for 699. Is that REALLY a rosewood fretboard? I bought it and 2 other 5420s with laurel and they look exactly the same.

If I ever want a Gibson, it will be a Heritage for sure....even if I'm not a fan of the headstock, the overall quality is stellar.

Hoh did you change pots value? Did i listen all the hiumbuckers+filtertron+P90 with 250k lelecaster/single coils pots? If not - how did you make middle position with 250K pot for bridge and 500k pot for all neck pickups that all requiers 500k pot? Just curious, thank you!

I have a great Gretsch Jumbo acoustic. It is like a rancher, but is yellow/orange with tri oval sound hole, and no markings. Very loud and stable. Awesome guitar.

I want a Singlecut McCarty SE 594, but I want to make sure the bridge pickup can get that aggressive classic Les Paul snarl and I don't want to buy an Epiphone/Gibson. I'm not convinced the stock import PRS 58/15 LT "S" pickups are exactly what I'm after. What would be the best PRS pickup for this do you think? The 57/08? Or should I just get something like a Burstbucker Pro Gibson to install in the McCarty?

I’ve had a G2655T Streamliner for a few years, the build quality is flawless. Plays, looks and sounds great, though the Broadtron pickups are a little dark and not particularly ‘Gretsch-like’. I’d like to check out a Jet or Penguin

I use volume and tone knobs on single coils all the time. Less so on humbuckers but I think that's why I like single coiils. More versatility. I can get creamy clean jazz tone with singles just fine.

The buttery smooth gain on the EVH is much better than the Soldano, by miles

Of course I'll sign up for the giveaway, even though I never win anything. (Well, not totally true, I "won" my girlfriend, who became my wife of 37 years so far... But that wasn't a drawing.) But if I did win something, this would probably be it. Why? Because I'm not happy about the neck, and access (to and) above the 12th fret. I do like the guitar though, otherwise. I could go without the Humbuckers, I really want an axe with P90s! But it's mostly the limited neck access that bothers me. That's why, if I ever win anything, this would be it. Hmmm.

For live and roadwork, pro level is completely unnecessary. These are not concert grade classical instruments, they are electric guitars. I would take a Gretsch over a Gibson any day. They have cooler appointments.
