    Thanks for the Vs. I was gonna buy the 007 or 009 at first, but came across a 013 used in almost mint condition and grabbed it. The size threw me off at first, but I have to admit that it fits perfectly in my 7 inch wrist. I have been tempted to buy the regular 007, but find that the 013 is special, so I don't need to go for the larger one.

    I have both of these watches and am a large guy 6’4 and 250lbs with 7 3/8” wrist and hands down prefer my 013...I’ve found that as time is going on I’m preferring the more traditional sized watches from 36mm to 40mm - as large as my wrist are I agree with you Rob it seems to fit just fine.

      So glad to read this. I'm 6'2", 260 lbs., 7.75" wrist and I don't like anything over 40mm. My favorite watches are in the 38mm range. Cheers!

    Yay! I adore my 007, which is already two years old now. A watch which will never leave my collection. Yeah, there are some flaws (misallignment of chapter ring,...) but It's such an icon!

    Thanks for the video Rob. I had SKX009 for a couple of years but replaced it with SKX015 (pepsi version of SKX013) as it wore incredibly comfortable. I think midsized divers have much better proportion as well imho. One thing you didn't mention (or unaware perhaps) is that midsize line has just as many models/colors as full size line (SKX013, 015, etc) but discontinued well before.

    I am really thinking of getting the 38mm sized Islander from Marc. You reviewed the regular size. It seems a good deal for the money and I have a smaller than average wrist. The Seiko 013 seemed to be more expensive than the 007 and 009 when I was looking.

    Funny you should say that the 013 feels and is differently made. I have both and had both for a few years and the 013 feels a bit more solid (mainly bc it's smaller). The 007/009 can feel a bit tinny and hollow after wearing them back to back. Still cracking watches though!

    Thanks Rob for the video. I had the 009 though sold it last year as it was not getting sufficient wrist time. Enjoyed it. After watching a YT video by IDGuy w/comparison between 007/009 and 013, thought to look into the 013. Ended up buying a few weeks later. Proportionally, it works better (for me) than the 009. I did mod it w/pepsi bezel, looks great. This one's a keeper. ⌚🇯🇵👍

      @stevevradenburg2425 Před 4 lety +1

      Lots of online options to acquire the parts yourself and try it (which is what I did) or have it done for you. I’m not sure a jeweler would do it, especially if they are an authorized dealer. Independent watch makers might do it but most specialize in maintaining OEM specs. Like traveling a lot of the fun with customizing watches is the adventure of hunting down people and places.

    Thanks for the comparison. In other watch news, I just found out, based on purchasing a watch from Japan, that eBay charges tax for purchases made overseas. I'm assuming I was charged California sales tax. I was unpleasantly surprised to see the price 90 dollars over due to the tax charged. This tax situation may slow me down. Maybe that's a good thing.

    • @RandomRobReviews

      Tax added on is going to be common from now on. For now there is no tax buying used private. I am sure they will sort that out someday.

    Funny how subjective size can be. I'd always preferred smaller watches. Before I got into collecting, I'd worn a Skagen 34mm for like a decade. When I decided I wanted to get a true dive watch, the SKX013 seemed the obvious choice. However when I received it, I was shocked at how small it looked. Something about it just makes it seem out of proportion to me. Maybe the height, or the way the indices looked crowded together on the dial... don't know exactly what it was but it just didn't look right to me. And I'd seen plenty of pictures and videos before buying. It's something I didn't really see until I had it in hand. I wore it for a day and decided I needed to buy an SKX007 instead. As soon as I put the 007 on wrist I knew it was a keeper. Yeah it was the biggest watch I'd ever worn, but it just worked. It still gets pretty regular rotation now. I flipped the 013 for a nice little gain a couple weeks later.
    Other factors to consider: The handset on the 013 is different. The smaller bubbly hour and minute hands make it look a bit like a toy version of an SKX. The second hand has that nice lume pip on the pointy end, but it's all white and looks less sporty. I used to think the lume pip on the counterweight would be annoying, but I got used to it pretty quickly, and I actually like the balanced design of it. Mod parts are also MUCH easier to find for the larger models if you're into that sort of thing. I did a movement swap on my 007 and was able to find all the parts I needed off the Seiko parts shelf. You'll have to do a proper crown/stem build if you want to swap the movement on an SKX013. The chapter ring is integrated with the dial on the 013, though, so it's less likely to have alignment problems.

    I’ve had and owned both, 007/009 and the 013. While I loved my 007 and 009, I ended up selling both because I liked the 013 that much. After wearing the 007 for about a year, the 013 looked tiny... it was almost a joke. But as soon as I started wearing it and stopped comparing it to the 007, I realized that it’s the perfect size for me. The initial “this watch is too small” sentiment goes away pretty quick. I love my 013 and I’m thinking about getting either another one to have modded or a 009 just to have one in the collection, but 013 is the one for me :)

    Seiko totally messed up the proportions of the SKX013. They neglected to scale down the thickness with the diameter. As a result, it’s way too thick.
