How to Parallel Park (Perfect Parallel Parking in 3 Easy Steps)

Our guide will not only be useful for your driving test but also for your daily driving and parallel parking in your city.
Step 1: Position Your Car
The first step is to find a suitable parking spot that's big enough for your car. Once you've found a spot, pull up alongside the car in front of the space you want to park in and and align it with your mirrors. Make sure there's about two feet between your car and the car next to you
Step 2: Turn your wheel 360 degrees to the right and reverse until you can do your three checks:
- Make sure that the right mirror is just under the brake lights of the car ahead of you.
- Make sure that the curb disappears under your front door handle.
- Check your left mirror and make sure that you can see both headlights of the car behind you.
Step 3: Turn your wheel all the way to the left, then pivot back into your perfect position.
Pull forward if necessary, until your car is centered in the space. Once you're in the spot, make sure you're not too close to the curb and that you're not blocking any driveways.
And that's it! With these three simple steps, you'll be able to parallel park perfectly every time.

I've been driving for 30+ yrs and I'm watching to figure out the best way to calmly and most effectively teach my kid. The anxiety ( for both of us ) is Real.
It may be my poor driving skills, but I find that that this method doesn't work well for left parallel parking. I'm either too far from the sidewalk or too close to the front car bumper. That being said, I'm so glad I found your videos. Jacqueline explains so well ! it's a huge help for people like me who go back to driving after a long periof of inactivity.
Being that I’m a nervous wreck from so many parking mistakes, I will try this, I hope my parking skills improve. It’s so bad I’ve developed parking trauma and have to sit in my car to decompress before I get out 😩

I drive a right-hand drive car in Britain (we drive on the left!) so we normally park on the left. But sometimes I have to parallel park on the right side of the road (in a narrow one-way street for example) and after 40 years of driving, I'm hopeless at it! This video is very useful. Even though the car is right-hand drive the mirror set-ups should still be the same for the right hand seat. I will give it a try.

If you allow i tell you easiest steps to remember n perfect parallel parking. NOTE: only match the tail light to tail light regardless of car length 1) turn your steering all the way to the right n go back until your car turn to 45° from front. 2) straighten the steering wheel n go back until your back door handle sit on the curb/ as shown in the video. 3) turn your steering all the way to the left n go back until your car is parallel to the curb.
My instructor taught me this n it perfectly parked my car every single time and got full points during test. Good luck 🤠

Maybe the only thing missing in the information is the distance between the two vehicles before the start of the procedure, ie. tail light to tail light distance that works for this style of parking

But who has their right side mirror set up so most of what you see is the side of the car? I know what the side of the car looks like. I have mine set so the side of the car is just _out_ of view. How is that second check supposed to work, really?

In America you drive in the right side of the road. You would never park left like this. That is actually illegal.

a lot of people recommend lining up your side mirrors with the cars next to yours , and depending on the size of your vehicle vs the one you'll be parking behind, advancing or reversing slightly to compensate for size difference
3:10 This is helpful, but I just wish you had explained how to straighten up the car. How many times did you turn the wheel to straighten up the car?

Parallel parking on the right side is ok, very practical and simple. So what should we do when parking parallel to the left? We saw the headlights of the vehicle behind us from the right mirror. What will we reference with the mirror on the left?
My kids will be practicing between stacks of boxes or traffic cones before they try doing this between other peoples cars.
