On this day in 1992 Eric Cantona signed for Manchester United. To celebrate the anniversary of Eric Cantona's arrival at Old Trafford, we bring you a look at the reaction from fans, Alex Ferguson and Cantona himself on the day of the signing.
He was without question one of Sir Alex Ferguson shrewdest signings as United boss. Cantona cost just £1.2m from Leeds, inspiring the club to four Premier League titles and creating some magical moments in the famous No 7 shirt.

"Ooh ahh Cantona..... They won't sing it here" 😅😅😅😅🤣🤣 They still sing it now, and will continue to sing it for decades in the future!
Lol
I wonder where that fella is, I would like to hear from him
Hey guys! I'm an 18 y/o aspiring footballer trying to improve and i'm documenting my journey on my channel. If you guys can check my channel out it would mean the world to me! Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!
Lolll!😂😂
He was right though, the Leeds version of the chant was different and has never been sung at United.
What a strange set of events to set Man U into the future. Dublin leg break, Hirst stays at Wednesday - Cantona might never have moved to United. And Fergie might not have built that first dynasty and be out of a job.
Well said sir
Do you think he’d actually be out of a job, I reckon he wouldn’t as there was little expectation for United anyways tbh
Fammm I know right!
Eternal regret for Hirst
They forgot to mention fergie wanted Peter beardsley
Sky Sports Football going Sky Sports Retro 😅
One of the best players in premier league history IMO
Definitely in terms of impact on the team, just hope we will be saying same thing about Bruno in the future
@@chipsthedog1and in terms of numbers. Eric racked up 125 G/A in 156 Premier League games. The 7th highest ratio of all time, only behind Haaland, Henry, Suarez, Salah, Aguero and Kane, and Eric was never an out and out striker, yet, still a goal creating machine.
Brilliant player!
Eric Cantona: Great Talent, Great Passion, Great Commitment. That's a Manchester United Player. Those of us who remember his first season saw that right away.
Hopefully Bruno can do the same
Most influential player for Utd the way he slotted into team the confidence rubbed off on the rest of the players the young lads of 92 were in awe of him utd became winners with king Eric 👑 🔴🔴🔴
This signing for me was one of those events that happen and you can remember where and what you were doing when you heard the news. A genius signing for both parties 👌👌
The signing that changed everything for us.
Compare that team to today
Oh those were the good times
A time when there was more footballers on the pitch than football players😔.Anyone can play but not everyone is a footballer😌
Football it’s BORING now!😴🥱, we have Too may football players😴😴
Eric the King 👑
Thank you david hurst for rejeting united thank we got eric cantona
Best buy in premier history 1million!!..he single handedly turned United around on the pitch..he gave them belief..and coupled with the best manager the.premier has seen..it was magic
David Hirst won a league cup in '91 and came second in the club raffle in 2000.
löl
The King
immediately i start thinking about his karate kick😄
Its dubbed the “kung fu kick”
I was standing on the old north stand at Stamford bridge when he scored his first goal for us. 1-1 at Chelsea.
ooh aah Cantona... An absolute legend at our club!
David Hirst stuck with his guns and stayed at Weds. Incredible .
I think it was more that Weds wouldn't sell him actually
Nah the Wednesday manager can't remember the name would not accept any bid
It was actually the manager himself rejected the bid from United. Hirst was actually regret about this though.
FIVE CANTONAAAAAAAAS 🎅
Little did they know that he would play a huge part in Man Utd's first four premier league titles. Kick started the United revolution in the 90s.
"Ooh ya cantona, they wont sing that here. That didn't age well ahaha
Never left online class so quick
lol I hate online class😂😅
Class footy, great players and fans in stadiums! Those were the days...
One of our many icons of the club!!

Drink a drink a drink a drink for the king the king the king the leader of our football team!!
Only a Fergie could pull that off. Cantona from Leeds and Van Persie from Arsenal. But Oh boy what an amazing effect he had on the club. Long Love King Eric.

The kids wise beyond his age. 👍🏼
What a player he was
The big guy enters the room like a BOSS 🤩🤩
Oww ahh Cantona ow ah Cantona!
that is when legend was born
1:52 that's right sir
I sink United are a great team managed by a world class Manager- Ole is at the wheel - Top of the league next season and promotion back to the premier League. Sank you !
He Was Definitely The Last Piece Of The 🧩 Jigsaw
Sir Alex best deal !
01:55 would love to hear this man’s take on that statement now haha
Howard Wilkinson was the classic example of a “I know best”.
Not a United fan but Hirst himself didn't reject a move to Old Trafford, Sheff Wed rejected the bid from the Mancs and they ended up looking elsewhere and going for Cantona.
The one true king.
Wow, David Hirst could've played for ManUtd. Ferguson attempted to sign him SIX times.
Hirst rejected them and now his career was so insignificant compared to what it could've been that he doesn't even have a careers statistics page on Wikipedia lol
And he won as much as Robbie Savage but at least Savage didn't reject ManUtd.
nothing was ever the same again
Genius
Rest is history
Sky sports turning into sky sports retro for views
So this is where Man United's dominance in the Premier League started
The rest is history!!!
Was there no transfer window back then?
Dion Dublin is a united legend cos he broke his leg
Everybody was kung fu fighting
Most iconic Red Devil
My reaction on 26th November 1992.What?Eric?Seriously?And the rest was history.
1:56 that comment aged well
David Hurst started it all of then
And the rest is history .
rip MARADONA. Football legend
Death: 60
Who did leeds get
Is it possible to sing sancho the date which today 😀 I wish
Why did Leeds sell, they'd just been Champions.
Eric cantona " The king is alive long live the king" we mancs love Eric he was start of the revolution and fergie was the master! We can never repay fergie! Lost interest in football after fergie retired!
Glory seeker.
and the rest is history.
Now do the day Spurs signed Klinsmann
I don't understand though, how were players able to get transferred in November?
Squads weren't half as big back then and money in the game hadn't started going mental yet. Took years for the jan transfer thing to come into place it i remenber rightly
Can we sign him.again
I bet David Hirst regrets staying at Wednesday considering they lost both the league cup and FA cup finals that season and Man U went to win the league
Ah the days when manchester used to spend silly money cherry picking the better players from other teams. It pretty much ended when they couldn't get Kane. £30m for Ferdinand was one of the starters. Didn't Sky have 10% shares at the time also?
Best #7
And the rest is history 😎
Next up in 20 years, the day Bruno Fernandes joined Man Utd
Only player to win last ever division 1 title and inaugural premier league title?
When you realize that Lukaku had the same goal ratio as Cantona and that in Jose's first season at united he had more points in the league than the treble winning united team
I dont think manchester United fans think that he is the worst striker. He did not fit into the type of striker ole prefers.
@@richardlobo88 that's also because the team back then had a few individuals rather than a whole team cohesion that's why united haven't had a regular 30 plus striker in ages
@@brandonayong5823 ole prefers strikers with speed. Rashford and martial are strikers that start from.wode n drift inside, greenwood is relatively inexperienced.therefore ighalo and cavani are there in the squad
It wasn't just Cantonas goals. It changed the way we played. Passed the ball better than most midfielders in the league. Ridiculous comparison.
And how many PL titles has Lukaku won, Mr Smart Ass?
RIP maradona 🙏🏼
Is he better than peak Suarez? 🤔
Impact without doubt, changed the team to a multi title winning team.
Yes. Yes he is
Don’t compare Suarez to Cantona. Cantona is miles ahead.
Where are they still singing suraez's name? 🤔
Wolves fc we are wolves
How wrong were there fans
I have a lot of good moments but the one I prefer is when I kicked the hooligan
God
And the rest...
Stuck in the past FC. Nobody in 30 years will make a video called "The day Harry Maguire signed for Manchester United" unless it's a compilation of stupid mistakes in history.
You must be fun to be around at parties
Le seagull
Thankfully David Hirst made a really bad decision.
......Never won the European cup....

When the seagulls follow the trawler it is because they think the sardines are strong in to the sea
