INSTAGRAM: @afropunkie Wassup guys!!! Here's a quick tutorial on how to do yarn locs. I also go over how I did my kente (multicolored) loc for those of you who are interested.
Thank you sooo much. I really wanted to do something special for my husband and he has wanted to try out locs like this for a while and I think this has been the most helpful tutorial I've come across
OMG. Thank you for thia turorial. I'm starting my mohawk yarn locs when I get home and have been dreading a long process. You make it look so easy and I love the tip about adding strings for wrapping instead of trying to measure out long strings. So excited to get started now!
Your locks are amazing! I smell the ocean breeze and hear waves crashing just by looking at them. Fabulous colour choice girl! 😍Really compliments your tomes and makes you glow. 🌊🧜🏽♀️🐬💚🐳💙
i know Im randomly asking but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I was dumb lost my account password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Vincenzo Aiden Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
man i have been stressing because i want to do yarn locs so bad, but everyone said it took 20+ hours, that it was so difficult. there's no way my arms would hold up to 20 hours of hair-doing lol but your video just relieved me. definitely trying your method instead.
I absolutely love yr hair I have 4 year old locks and very nervous about dying my hair gonna try this my birthday is approaching thank u for the info finding my colors now
+Gifty G. You're welcome and Happy Early Birthday!! Yea I feel you. I never dye my real hair because of all the chemicals. Im sure you're hair will come out fabulously. Thanks for watching!! =)
GIRL THS IS SO AWESOME!! listen i just spent almost a full work day looking up hair dyes and colored locks..hesitant because i already have dyed my hair plenty and i dont want to damage it.. plus i want to do all colors and now i can!! whoop whoop!!!...can u tell im excited? lol
+Natasha Simpson lol Im loving the excitement! Yesss girl you can do all the colors of the rainbow, that's what I love about yarn locs. Im thinking purple for next time. Thanx for watching! =)
How you stop the locks from becoming soft as your wrap the yarn around? Mine's do that and I'm totally lost on why is this happening and what do I need to change in the process
how do you keep your hair moisturized if the yarn keep soaking up all the moisture because I used to have yarn locs that I used to loc my actual hair but it kept taking mall the moisture from my hair causing my hair to be dry and I want them again but I don't want to have to face that same issue
U would have to braid your own hair first. But the knot created by the extension helps to hold the wrapping hair at your scalp. Thanks n my experiences.
+Dae Dae23 Any yarn is fine as long as it is 100% acrylic. Wool yarn will just lock your hair. Red Heart is the most popular brand for yarn braids/locs I've seen. In this video I'm wearing Crafter's Secret acrylic yarn because they had the colors I wanted.
I'm just achieving this look right now but it took me forever to do it. Also mine look so straight idk why! It doesn't fall naturally... i really wanna loose down everything but just bc of the time it took me i won't.
Hey, girl! You are so pretty! I love your locs, the color is just the best. I want to ask how long do you keep yarn locs/braids? I've been using braids with fake hair 'cause i live in Brazil and there's no colorful hair to braid around here, and i would die for pink/purple/blue braids! Do you think braids with yarn work well? (sorry about the giant comment) Have a good day, darling!
Larissa Soledade aww thank you! =) I absolutely love yarn braids. It's a great protective style. I usually keep mine in for 1 1/2 -2 months but they can definitely last for a while as long as you take care of it properly (frequently oiling and moisturizing scalp + washing to prevent product build up). I say you go for it!
+alex b I've definitely rocked yarn locs for 3 months before and it held up pretty well. I kept it fresh by redoing the front maybe every few weeks and making sure that I kept my scalp hydrated. I would wash as often as you can to get rid of any product build up.
I would wash it like any other braids or locs. Just make sure you rinse very thoroughly because you dont want any build up in the yarn. Yarn tends to soak up a lot of water so you will spend a lot of time ringing it out and trying with your towel.
homegurl1984 I crochet so I recognized the yarn as red heart super saver, it’s a 100% acrylic yarn found anywhere you can buy craft items such as Walmart or Michael’s. Hope this helped
+Doloriann Treize yarn locs last a long time. I think I kept mine for 2 months. But I would say it can be worn up to 3 months with maintenance and even longer if you take really good care of your hair.
Also I think the biggest problem I had was the roots ends keeppopping out I didn't understand the importance of tucking until 3/4 of the way in also could you explain the adding new yarn thing better what I did was I took bits of yarn from the inside pieces as they ran out
+Melissa Shinnied Im using the 100% acrylic Crafter's Secret yarn. I think I used two average yarn rolls but it all depends on how thick you want the braids and how long so I would just buy at least 3 to be safe.
Yes, not in person. But on CZcams some people said my hair was messy and dirty lol but I brushed it off. Cant let people get you down. The styles I like are always out there so Im always prepared for negative feedback. It just helps me improve as a person in the end.
this is by far the easiest tutorial in yarn locs thank you
Great tutorial ...my daughter has been wanting faux locs and I have tons of yarn

What kind of yarn did you use...?
Looks amazing, but I've got a lot of hair. It would take a solid week to do my whole head. I'd do two strands, and then I'd be done!
Hey, I love your hair and great tutorial. I just wanted to as what you do to prep your hair?

Thanks mama for all ur help. And you are absolutely beautiful siSTAR, God blessed you with amazing features! Xo0
What if I don't want extensions? Can I skip that and just wrap it???
U would have to braid your own hair first. But the knot created by the extension helps to hold the wrapping hair at your scalp. Thanks n my experiences.
how many dreads you have?
That beautiful
this tutorial was so great
+MsAwesome6814 Thanks for watching! =)
Love this video
Beautiful.😍😍😍
this would be so pretty with ribbon on 2 dutch braids
What type of yarn are you suppose to use.? I really want to try this hair style, but I don't want to use any ole kind of yarn that won't last.

Next time dip the locs in hot water then dry with a blow dryer or hood dryer, they'll loosing up that way.
Hey, girl! You are so pretty! I love your locs, the color is just the best. I want to ask how long do you keep yarn locs/braids? Afropunkie Oh, thanks for the tips! I'll do the yarn braids and when i'm done i'll tag you on instagram! :)
Sounds awesome! Can't wait to see it! =)
How would you maintain the locs for at least 3 months? I'm headed on a 3 month trip and don't want to mess around too much with my natural hair.
+alex b I've definitely rocked yarn locs for 3 months before and it held up pretty well. I kept it fresh by redoing the front maybe every few weeks and making sure that I kept my scalp hydrated. I would wash as often as you can to get rid of any product build up.
How would you suggest washing it? This will be my first time trying it so this will be a bit of an experiment for me :)
I would wash it like any other braids or locs. Just make sure you rinse very thoroughly because you dont want any build up in the yarn. Yarn tends to soak up a lot of water so you will spend a lot of time ringing it out and trying with your towel.
I was wondering, do you recommend a certain type of yarn?
homegurl1984 I crochet so I recognized the yarn as red heart super saver, it’s a 100% acrylic yarn found anywhere you can buy craft items such as Walmart or Michael’s. Hope this helped
Kym Kelly thank u, yes this is very helpful. I am new to this and my son really wants dreads so hopefully it will turn out well

+Attitude Real Rude Thank you!! =)
I have thinner yarn ? It should still work right.
yes!
I love it
+Tiffany Spiller/moore Thanks! =)
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Awesome!
Dose it matter what type of yarn you use
Acrylic is the best option. Some other yarns can actually dread your hair for real.
dope hairstyle
i like what you did.
How many time you can keep those yarns ? thank you !
+Doloriann Treize yarn locs last a long time. I think I kept mine for 2 months. But I would say it can be worn up to 3 months with maintenance and even longer if you take really good care of your hair.

Omg I so did mine wrong thanks for the video

+Melissa Shinnied Im using the 100% acrylic Crafter's Secret yarn. I think I used two average yarn rolls but it all depends on how thick you want the braids and how long so I would just buy at least 3 to be safe.
i so love this I've subscribe like right away😊😊
aww thank you!!
Simone Corridon so did I !
Did u have any negative views of ur hair style? How did u handle that?
Yes, not in person. But on CZcams some people said my hair was messy and dirty lol but I brushed it off. Cant let people get you down. The styles I like are always out there so Im always prepared for negative feedback. It just helps me improve as a person in the end.
