hello,i just bought flysky t6 transmitter on yesterday.but now i had a problem to bind or connect with the my tanks.do you have any ideas please??thank you :)
So if I wanted to convert a heng long tank to 2.4 ghz I just need to swap out the receiver with a 2.4ghz version? It will then work with the existing board? I already have a 2.4 ghz taigen transmitter, will that work with this config?
Great conversion Kevin!!! I wish you would list the items you're using for this conversion. I have never liked the HL tank recoil. I would rather have actual recoil like this tank has. Is the HL Sherman able to be converted to only gun barrel recoil like this tank is? Thanks for the great Video, I've subscriber to your channel.
+rb67mustang - To remove the track recoil you only need either the Komodo+ or ATRC boards - both of which are available in the webstorerctanksaustralia.com/shop
I like your vids they are entertaining and informative. But please tell me this, what are the benefits of doing the upgrade you just did. I have the Heng Long Tiger that works just fine straight out of the box. So what advantages of upgrading?
If you have just one or two tanks and you just drive them around your backyard then there are no real advantages. If you want to do more than this then moving to 2.4gHz will provide the following. 1. Increase in range - Rather than tens of metres, REAL 2.4gHz (not the new Taigen or HL 2.4 gHz) will give hundreds of metres range. 2. Not limited by the frequency of the crystals. If you want to join a club or take part in tank battles then you will be limited by your 27mHz system. If anyone else is using your crystal channel then only one of you can drive at a time. Also you have the risk of accidents when someone turns on the same radio channel. I've seen a few tanks drive off display table due to this. 3. You can run multiple tanks 10+ using a single radio. 1 radio and 10 tanks rather than 10 tanks and 10 radios. 4. You can program your radio for each tank. The 9X offers practically an unlimited amount acceleration and momentum profiles. You can program a light tank to drive like a light tank and a heavy tank like a heavy tank. 5. There are hundreds of products out there in the market designed for true hobby grade R/C market. By moving to a true hobby grade system you can incorporate these products in your setup. Having a REAL 2.4gHz system (again NOT the new Taigen or HL systems) will allow you to easily do the following: -control your tank volume from your radio -switch on/off headlights, other lights, smoke unit,.... -add servos for recoil, hatch movement gun elevation,... -obtain proportional control for your turret rotation/gun elevation. (At present you will have NO control over the speed of your turret rotation which is at full speed) Apart from all those reasons the functions available on 2.4gHz radios are increasing practically daily. The lastest radios are offering 16 + channels of operation, model matching, USB computer connectivity, graphics and sound prompts. In a nutshell - the factory system provides the very basic functions and limits expansion/upgrade options. A 2.4gHz system removes most of those limitations.
Wow! Thanks for the quick reply. That is certainly a lot of advantages. I'm not a member of any Club, not sure there is one in Adelaide, and I've only got the one tank anyway. I like your vids though. If I get any more tanks I might stay upgrading. Cheers!
No, the RC5HL only works with the RX18 unit. The control unit in the WSN is very similar to the RX18. Many user simply replace the WSN control with a RX18 and swap a few of the wire around (plenty of info on the net). Can't help on the half track.
I'm new to this. I want a nice 1/16 scale m41 with smoke, great sound less winding noise and accurate. Any suggestions? Also I'm looking for a 1/16 m60
I have a HL Tiger I with metal gears, tracks, sprockets, etc. and now the electronics don't seem to function properly. It worked fine for 2 years. Turn the tank on and lights flash on the tank... and then turn on receiver and push the key to start... and nothing. I've done a lot of custom work on the model including a lot of custom paint work. I'm a master modeler but not too great with the electronics stuff. =( Last time it was run it worked great. I just bought a brand new Venom 5000 MAH 7.2V High Power battery and ran the Tiger 2 or 3 times with it no problem. I have a Spectrum DX6i and I thought about replacing the receiver with a Spectrum compatible one. How hard is it to replace the Airsoft with barrel recoil? I want to bypass the stupid tank spasm recoil as the real Tiger didn't move when firing because the barrel recoil absorbed the force. I want to also add Tamiya IR battle system as there is a local tank museum with a 15,000 sf RC tank battlefield. Any suggestions? Can I add the barrel recoil just by modifying the electronics? It appears you did that very easily with the Panther in the video...
+russell stone If you have a look at the rctanksaustralia forum. www.rctanksaustralia.com/forum you will find lots of info there including how easy it is to convert the airsoft unit to servo assisted recoil. You will also find info on what the Spektrum radio is not the best for land vehicles. Finally you will also find details of our Asp control board that will do all that you want above.
My Heng Long Panther does not have this seperate receiver board nor the sound/smoke unit. It has a single board to which the antenna and motors are connected. Is there a way to use your converter on such an all in one board?
Hello. I have a Heng Long Sherman tank. It works basically fine with the radio that came with the tank-but there is one problem...the range. At somewhere around three meters from the radio, the tank essentially loses the signal. If I convert to the 2.4 gHz system will the range increase? Do you have any idea by how much? Thanks!
Kevin Collins line of sight - about 500 metres - maybe more. In realistic use you would still be able to drive away so far that you wouldn't even be able to see your tank properly (100 -200 metres)
Yes. You will need to know how to program your DX7 and in particular assign channel 5 to a switch. If using a spectrum receiver with more than 6 channels you will also have to set the jumper to 'Spektrum Receiver more than 6 channels'
Everyone should be aware that all the new "2.4gHz" units by Taigen & Heng Long are NOT TRUE HOBBY GRADE systems. They are the same toy grade systems but now using the 2.4gHz frequency. Proper hobby grade radio systems will allow you to use better radios, have better control, allow for the addition of more features, lights, servo's etc. and if you have more than 3 tanks potentially CHEAPER. The RC5HL ONLY works with the 27mHz MFU's. There is nothing that is compatible with the Heng Long 2.4gHz units and we stopped making the RC2TG which could be used to convert Taigen tanks. The RC5HL only works with the RX18 (27mhz) and a proper hobby grade radio, Turnigy, Futaba, Spektrum and so on.
Yes the RC5HL is available here: rctanksaustralia.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=30 Plain 9XR's are not available but 9X and 9XR Pro radios are still available. The FrSky QX7 is a newer, better substitute for the 9XR.
I've got a Tiger I, metal track/sprocket/gearbox upgrade, smoke/sound, and annoying track recoil nonsense. As well as a Panzer IV Ausf. F-1, standard tracks and gearbox, same annoying fake recoil from its airsoft gun. The Tigers controller is fried, batteries exploded. The Panzer IVs controller, which can have its crystal swapped like the one this Panther has in the video, planned to do so for my Tiger, however it seems that the controller no longer transmits any signal at all. Light comes on, looks like it is powered on. Have tried with both the Tiger and Panzer IV crystals, and get no signal to either of them. While looking for replacements/new controllers I stumbled upon this, and was wondering how much it'd be to outfit these two tanks with the systems here, and have the ability to share the same controller, if any. Because it looks super expensive with that controller alone.
Also as a minor edit. Is there any way possible that this stuff can ship to the US. Everywhere I find that has replacements or upgrades is across the world and doesn't ship internationally.
+Cassius Faux Reading your comment this system is not for you. You require a working 27mhz RX-18 for the RC5HL to communicate with. If one is "fired" then you need an entirely new controller. Also the first thing I do with the yellow HL batteries is to dispose of them immediately. BTW have you swapped crystals at both the radio transmitter AND on the receiver board inside the tank? If you want a reliable system you need a proper 2.4gHz radio and a decent Tank control unit. Unfortunately that does require $$$ but then so too do metal track, and gearbox upgrades. I don't win many friends by pointing out that maybe one should spend the $$ first on a control system rather than fancy metal do dads other wise you will end up with a nice static metal model. Yes we do ship to the US in fact most of RCTA business is to the USA and our shops default currency is the USD. However, you will need to "bite the bullet" wrt to cost. RCTA does have it's own complete tank control unit and we do also sell radios setup for our systems. There are many other solutions available out there I'd suggest investigating a few of them before making a decision. Cheers
I bought the Tiger with the metal upgrades, on sale for 117$ USD. The problem is that the controllers for both of them, the Tiger I and Panzer IV, both able to swap crystals are both out of commission. One of the controllers itself had something burn out on the board and cause the batteries to explode inside the controller, the default batteries I have, the yellow ones for the tanks, all those act perfectly fine, although I use them for backup only. I've got a slightly better battery now that I use as a "main", currently on my Panzer III. Thinking about just getting the upgrade they offer, with the controller and the RX-18 box thingy and upgrading the Panzer IV first, since the Tiger I has plastic rear idlers that bend in and cause the track to come loose sometimes. Probably gonna divert money when I Can into the Panzer IV over the Tiger I. As for swapping crystals, yes. I've swapped the Tigers into the Panzer IV, and the Panzer IVs into the Tiger, still no response from the controller itself.
+Ale Bear The RC5HL retails for $40 rctanksaustralia.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=19_9_62&products_id=225 That is all you need if you already have a proper hobby grade radio and receiver. If you do not then it is your choice as to what radio you get. Suitable radios can start as low as $60 and go up from there. Unlike the old Heng Long system one proper Hobby Radio can control multiple tanks so your radio is a one time purchase.
KevinMillard68 Some are better for waterproofing than others. The Panzer IV is one of the better ones as the suspension doesn't intrude into the interior. You can get bearings for the main axles and with these well greased up you can get into water as deep as the junction between top and bottom hulls.
Is this the updated version on your website rctanksaustralia.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=27 ?will it work with a spektrum dx5e ?

No because the Heng Long 2.4gHz protocol is a TOY protocol which is only compatible with Heng Long MFUs. Real 2.4 radios use true hobby grade protocols which is what the RC5HL understands. With true hobby grade 2.4ghz you can use servos, add sound modules, do whatever just about. This is not possible withthe HL or Taigen 2.4 systems. The Heng Long/Taigen 2.4 systems are for all purposes the same as toy 27mHz systems just operating on 2.4gHz.
You could - but the Heng Long 2.4gHz is a toy controller which happens to operate on 2.4gHz. So if you are happy with toy standards and not proper Hobby grade controls/protocol then that is a fine way to go.

Hey mate, you think this thing could work on the Heng Long 1/16 Panzer lll L? The things already strapped for space on the inside.
Is the turning/speed control more proportional now?
my two Heng long RC tank is not the same inside as the one you show.
