    Nice simple review from someone who actually uses the tool. Thank you. I have been using this multi tool for about 3 months now ( line trimmer and chainsaw) in a domestic situation (reasonably large yard with trees on multi level) and I agree with all your comments. I am now considering the hedge trimmer so I was pleased to see it works well.

    Hi Anton, I switched my garden tools over to EGO after researching the reviews and watching a number of CZcams videos made by professional garden contractors like yourself.
    Generally I have been reasonably happy with the tools, however I have recently had an issue with my HT6500E hedge trimmer. I sent the tool off to the approved repairer under the 5 year warranty claim form. After 3 weeks wait the repairer called me to let me know that the parts required would take another month to get here.
    I’m in Melbourne Australia..... 7 weeks!
    Not good enough. I’m going back to the Shindaiwa. At least the parts are available at every garden retailer and at the worst case it would be a week to turn the machine around.

    I used the original line trimmer now for 3 years, works great. I recently cleared very heavy brush with it, I wished it had a blade attachment when i chewed through 6 foot tall brush. I guess it's time to update! :)

    I love my EGO self propelled mower, it's my favourite toy at the moment 👍

    • @PerthgardensAu
      @PerthgardensAu  Před 6 lety +2

      Agreed. I use that mower in my gardening business all the time and love it. It’s not quite as powerful for really thick wet grass as the commercial petrol mower I used to use, but it’s much lighter (I can lift it on my own), much quieter (don’t need earmuffs), cleaner (no oil, no petrol, no smoke) and almost maintenance free (no spark plug, air filter, oil change, servicing).

    They've come out with two backpacks now, a $650 large battery that's compatible with the mower and they've also released a fully commercial $2000 backpack.
    Hey ego marketing team you should send him a commercial grade back pack to review! Wink wink!

      Thanks for the comment! Yep, I have no problem recommending this hedge trimmer. It was the first Ego tool I bought and I'm still happy with it. I've used it regularly each week since I bought it almost 2 years ago. My old petrol-powered hedge trimmer has stayed in the shed unused ever since I bought the Ego hedge trimmer. I kept it just in case I needed a back-up but have not needed it!

      I've been using my EGO hedge trimmer for about 3 or 4 years now. Used it to trim my own huge hedge and my neighbours as well. I have not used a multi tool but that looks like it would be a treat to use on the tall hedge. It would save me having to move my ladder to often. I also have the mower. Mine is not self propelled. Works pretty well, maybe not as good as a gas one with Honda engine but its far less noisy and not problems with fuel and oil and carbon. Hooray. Have a weed trimmer too. Nice that they all use the same batteries and chargers. My chargers take 1 hour to charge a 4 amp battery, I think the same for my 5 amp battery.

    I’m trying to decide on the multi head system or just get the plain ego grass trimmer. I personally think the multi head ego system is the way to go I’m sure I will get the other attachments in the future but right now I do need the grass trimmer. I have a hedge trimmer and pole saw but they are with a power cord and yes haven’t it cordless would help greatly. You said something about the grass trimmer that if we should get something more powerful etc. what did you mean by that? Does this multi head grass trimmer not cut that powerful? Should I opt for the regular ego trimmer instead? I believe it has an auto wind feature. I take it the multi head version doesn’t? All I see are people hand winding the thread. The other model has a button you press and it winds itself. I just don’t know lol. Can’t decide which to get. I have a regular size yard I suppose. Not a landscape business like you. One more thing how long does the 2.5 amp battery last when using the grass trimmer attachment? The multihead system doesn’t come with a battery or charger on Amazon. Which is fine. But at the store the grass trimmer version comes with a 2.5 amp battery.

    • @PerthgardensAu
      @PerthgardensAu  Před 5 lety +1

      Ok let me see if I can help. 2.5ah doesn't last long for something that draws a lot of power like a line trimmer. Actual running time depends on the exact model and how long and tough the grass is.
      Your yard might be small enough to get away with the 2.5ah battery - I don't know. You'll probably need to google the running time for the specific model you are looking at.
      As far as power: well the multi-tool has plenty of power. As far as I know it is as powerful as the most powerful brushcutter from Ego. I own both and they are both good.
      When I talk about some people needing even more power it is just because there are some super-heavy duty petrol (gas) powered brushcutters out there for slashing acres of long heavy grass. The Ego models aren't in this category, but it doesn't sound like that's what you need anyway.
      As for auto-wind. I believe there is now an Ego model that has autoload of the head. I don't own this so I can't comment on it. For my use it's not something I would be seeking as loading the line is not that hard.
      The models I use all have *auto-feed* which is a different thing. Bump the head on the ground as you are using the tool and more line comes out.
      If I had to choose for you I'd probably go the multi-tool with a 5ah battery because then you can build a complete kit over time. But I don't know whether this is within your budget or not!

    • @gdh613
      @gdh613 Před 5 lety +1

      Possibly your question has been answered as it's months ago, but here is an answer. For some reason there are small differences in the tools available in UK and Australia than in the USA. However after some "youtubing" I found that you can convert the string trimmer attachment to the brush cutter by removing the string head and adding the Ego brush cutting blade made by "Oregon." czcams.com/video/zk_cnUKxfFE/video.html. There is a more detailed instructions with catalog numbers at czcams.com/video/0M4hGO-snQs/video.html. You will have to order (Amazon of course) some of the such as the retention hub and left handed retaining nut but czcams.com/video/0M4hGO-snQs/video.html has all of the catalog numbers. It works great. I'm at a loss as to why ego doest sell the separate unit in the States. You see on youtube being used without the guard--bad ideal as it's a potentially lethal tool if mis-used but does a great job if used correctly and carefully :)

  • @tomtaylor195
    @tomtaylor195 Před 6 lety

    Hey Mate, how is the weight difference compared to a 2 stroke power head? particularly the hedge trimmer... also how do you charge your batteries on the go?
    Thanks
    Tom

    • @PerthgardensAu
      @PerthgardensAu  Před 6 lety +3

      I’ve used lots of 2-stroke tools before switching to Ego (major brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Echo, Shindaiwa) but as far as 2-stroke multi-tool I’ve only used one and it was much heavier than the Ego.
      I would say that generally I find the Ego tools *with battery* to feel similar in weight to a good quality 2-stroke alternative. The tool itself is very light and the battery is what adds the most weight.
      I find it to be very well balanced and comfortable to use for a long period of hedge trimming.
      As for charging on the go - I now have a solar panel, deep cycle battery for storage and inverter on my work vehicle which I use to charge the Ego batteries. If I need more than that then I plug into Client’s power point.

    • @PerthgardensAu
      @PerthgardensAu  Před 6 lety +3

      There's so many different tools to compare against so it's hard to say. If I had to give an answer I'd say the Ego is lighter than equivalent 2-stroke tools, but the choice of battery you use makes a big difference to weight.
      If going light weight is important then it can be easier to have a bunch of the smallest batteries and swap them as they run out. Depends on your workload though.
      I start the day with about 7 charged batteries in 3 different sizes. It would be rare to drain them all. But I can charge them on the go from my Solar panel/Deep cycle battery/Invertor setup, or I can plug a charger into a power point at a clients house.
