I'm in need of a good weed eater and I've been looking at reviews of the Ego and the Milwaukee multi tools and I'm leaning towards the Ego...what's your opinion kind Sir

I have the 21" mower, the powerhead (pole saw, string trimmer, and another weed trimmer configured as a brush cutter), the snow blower, 14" chainsaw, hedge clipper, and a backpack blower. I also have six 5 ah batteries and two rapid chargers. I never run out of power. Most of my tools have exceeded my expectations. The only tool which is somewhat disappointing is my backpack blower. and that is due to short battery life (about 20 minutes). I live in Wisconsin, and the snow blower moves a crazy amount of snow. That tool surprised me the most.
Oh please, try the backpack hedge trimmer. Thank you for real testing these stuff out.
We bought an EGO mower 3 weeks ago (our neighbor has had one for more than a year and he still loves his). I’ve used it 3 times and absolutely love it. I can do our entire yard (just shy of an acre) on a single charge with plenty of battery to spare. The battery charges in less than an hour. The mower has plenty of cutting power. Super quiet. No fumes. Light. Stores easily. My only wish is that the skirt of the mower was made of metal. Other than that...it’s the best push mower I’ve ever owned. Highly recommended.
I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use czcams.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

Id never marry someone who didn't have the same values as myself. So there's no issues on that front! She's got guns too! Haha! We've been married 32 years now. WE KNOW BEST what it takes to get along and I'm blessed to have her! When we got married we agreed to share our money and finances. WE became ONE, so to speak. WE BOTH work really hard. WE BOTH could have made much worse decisions!! We are BOTH much better off as a couple rather than apart. There is no need for machismo in our relationship. We BOTH serve each other and our roles. We BOTH, as well as our extended family raised wonderful children who make the world a little better place to live in.

Thank you for your videos. I work at an ACE and we started carrying these but none of my coworkers have converted to electronic yard tools yet so it was pretty lackluster. I changed a while back and with your and other CZcams creator's help I got a lot more education than Chervon offers on EGO. I have been the main source for converting customers to them for a while. I am the only one that orders replacement parts and presents them to people asking questions. With the price of gas skyrocketing I have been getting a giant wave of demand. So has EGO because they are sold out of many tools right now. I am happy that I have my niche at work and get to drive the market in this area; your demonstrations have helped a lot.

How'd it go? Do you trim brush with your string trimmer.
I have the blower, a chain saw and 2 batteries. We used the chain saw to clear small trees and underbrush when we built a house. The 2nd battery comes in handy. When one battery looses power, just switch them out. They have been very reliable and easy to use. I am now a widow and not engine savy so the EGO system is great for me. I am very interested in the string trimmer to replace a gas model I cannot operate. Happy to see your review!

Thanks much for the review. Have been using a Kobalt battery-powered blower and trimmer, and absolutely love them, but now I want an battery edger, and due to the convenience of using the same battery for all their stuff and having the multi-head attachment, I'm considering getting the EGO edger/trimmer combo and selling my Kobalt stuff. This review helped me decide that was a worthwhile change.
You're welcome Bill! I'm glad the review was helpful! It is convenient to use the same battery for all their yard tools and I use the multi-head tool constantly. I would also recommend the shoulder strap to save your arm strength when trimming.
My dad has the Power head unit with the pole saw attachment. We used it to cut down a few trees in our yard. So far, I like it since I get to use it now and then. I'm thinking of grabbing the trimmer head, blower, and the broom for it. We've also got a brush cutter for our Troy-Bilt gas trimmer which I think could link up with the E-GO.
After years of working with heavy lawn equipment I am having Arthritis in my elbow and bone joints. I never wanted to switch to battery equipment but this past weekend I bought The Blower,Weed Eater,Chain Saw and the High end Lawn Mower with the 7.5 AH battery and the Rapid charger. The Weed Eater is also the high with the auto reload and that's easy and fast. I glad that I switched. I sold my Gas equipment in one day. I only wish that I had Learned about the Multi tool because now I 'm in need of an edger.

TF, I LOVE my EGO Line, I just put a video up on my Collection so far, I have the 21" Mower, The String Trimmer, Edger, Pole Saw, Hedger, and just bought the 580 Leaf Blower, and let me tell you, I went up on my Roof to Blow some leaves and debris off, and thought I'd try Turbo, and it blew off a couple shingle so fast... I guess I didn't need Turbo 😂

I've got an EGO string trimmer (The one with the PowerLoad head and carbon fiber shaft, I love it), push mower, and leaf blower. At this point, I'm committed to their ecosystem for outdoor electric power tools, and I don't regret ANY of it. I'll be picking up the PowerHead next for the Polesaw, sweeper and Tiller attachments.
The biggest difference-maker is having the 550W charger for the mower. The batteries charge twice as fast on it, and I can get the front yard done, swap a battery, get the back yard done, and have the other battery fully charged and ready to go again. The trimmer is very balanced, and not having it vibrate in your arms all day is MUCH less exhausting than using a gas trimmer.
The trimmer absolutely does lose some steam as the battery reaches the end of it's charge and the mower doesn't give much indication it's getting low at all, but I'll take swapping a battery and pulling a trigger over (possibly mixing) pouring fuel and yanking a recoil starter (possibly to no result at all) any day of the week.
How does it do with brush? Is it powerful enough to cut through brush?
BronxDad1977 Dunk I can’t say I’ve used it on brush, but it chews through thick, 3 foot high weeds on fence lines like nobody’s business, places where I used to use a sickle bar mower...

@@LDSKIPPER1911 I’ve always purchased whatever I’ve wanted throughout the years, from $8,000 turntables, to 12,000 speakers. I’ve also sold a lot of my electronic gear to buy something else. Not once has my wife questioned any of my purchases except once. She didn’t like the 75” tv saying it hurt her eyes. I exchanged it to 65” and to this day I regret listening to her. Another time I came home with a brand new Challenger. She wasn’t thrilled, but didn’t bitch about it. Homey don’t play dat.
Thanks for the great information. I have several EGO products. At some point, maybe you could do a video on Lithium-Ion batteries, which can cost more than the tool itself. The EGO 5AH battery that you’re using on your trimmer, for instance, sells for about $250. Here are a couple of tips for prolonging the life of those very expensive Lithium-Ion batteries: (1) When charging, keep the battery out of the sun, or inside at a lower ambient temperature. Lithium Ion batteries can be permanently damaged if they get too hot. (2) Lithium-Ion batteries age a little bit every time they are charged to 100% capacity. Research has shown that the life of Lithium-Ion batteries can be doubled or tripled if you avoid charging them all the way to 100%. (3) If they're not going to be used for a while, Lithium-Ion batteries should be stored at around 50% charge, which equates to about 3.8 volts. These same battery-management concepts apply to cell phones, computers, drones, Tesla cars, and most consumer products that use Lithium-Ion batteries.
The MST1603 multi-tool looks like it's even better with the Powerload system and perhaps a new motor.
I have the exact model. You suggested the weight issue can be overcome by using the strap when trimming along sidewalks and driveways. But if I come straight at the area to be trimmed this tool doesn’t get close enough or cut deep enough to get a clean edge without my arm getting very tired from trying to lift and hold the battery end at an angle so it will cut closer. Another video I just viewed suggested turning the trimmer and when it stops raining here I will try that. You might want to mention your idea for overcoming the weight to better cutting angle ratio so as to minimize arm, especially forearm, fatigue.

I’ve been using echo for the past 15 years. It’s getting time to think about replacements. I’m ready to go cordless. This seems like a good brand, but based on price, availability of additional options, and the ability to cross batteries with other common tools, I think I’ve decided to go with Milwaukee.

Also, the self feeding attribute on the Ego is great. You do not have to tap the head and do not have to loosen the head to feed the string.

I wanted to go for EGO first , but they aren't available where i live , so i thought to get dewalt next , but can't get any of the newer models , so gotta go for milwaukee.
Ego is the only brand i will buy. In 6 months i have acquired the 650cfm and backpack blowers, powerhead with edger, the stand alone hedge trimmer, fast charger and the carbon fiber string trimmer. Ego is a product line that must be felt and used to really be appreciated. The attachments, mower, ztr and 2 stage snowblower are on my list of purchases. Things to note with ego you are buying into the battery platform ( worlds best imho) not the tools which are as good if not better than most products in the market. Gas, corded electric or cordless.
I ruined my pole saw attachment when a large branch came down and crushed the shaft. It bent it and I'm hoping I can replace just the shaft - the unit had been used less than an hour when I had my accident with the branch.

Mate we have the multi tool with brush cutter & trimmer attachments. We also have an Ego chainsaw & blower. Ego Australia often runs battery redemption offers so we also have four batteries & two chargers.
They are all powerful & good to use. I fully recommend them. I hope Ego brings out an off-road e bike.

I have the carbon fiber version. I have a love hate relationship with it. Anything good anyone has said about it is true. The bad thing that is almost a deal breaker is the clockwise direction of the head. He is correct. I have gotten more pision ivy since I've bought it (1 season) than I have with a gas unit in 20 years. I am currently looking for other options.
What’s wrong with with clockwise rotation?
@@vessvsupercharged nothing is wrong with it it just that I am so used to a counterclockwise and so therefore it would throw poison ivy on my legs and I am highly allergic to poison ivy therefore it was not my favorite unit.

I have the EGO lawn mower and blower and enjoy both of the products! They work well for my yard and I am able to use just the 7.5A battery for both tools (not that big of a yard). I like to spend the extra money and buy the tool with the battery just to have spare batteries. I am looking to buy the EGO Edger and Trimmer in the future... need to get the wife's approval. I am debating on getting the two tools separate vs getting the multi tool head with both attachments. I just don't know if I would buy the other attachments in the future.

Good to hear! I agree having spare batteries is useful, especially if you use all the power from one you have more batteries to keep you going vs. waiting to charge just one battery. I live in Wisconsin and have the snow blower. I love mine. It does have the common limitations of other single stage blowers. Those limitations include the following: not ideal for snow over 6" (it does work for snow deeper than that), clearing wet snow, or moving packed snowplow piles. I prefer using this to clear my driveway and shared alley to access my driveway instead of my large two stage unit. I can typically do my driveway which is about 20x30' and most of my shared alley which is about 150x20' on a single set of 5 ah batteries. I do have extra batteries and two rapid chargers if I need a little extra power, and I can run non-stop as my run time is equal to charging time.
Some people complain that the bottom scraper wears out. I had my snow blower for 2 years. I might have to replace that next year (about $20). The scraper can also get caught on uneven pavement or cracks in the pavement similar to pushing a shovel to clear snow. If your pavement has a lot of cracks or uneven spots, you probably would want something else.
im still on the fence on buying one of these, i have an acre of land, switching out heads in seconds is really good, i have some thin bushes that i need to cut down with the weed eater bush cutter, and normal weed eating :) after saying that and watching your great review, i might just go ahead and buy it, even knowing that this video is a little over year old.

Can you tell me if the string trimmer attachment will only fit on the multi head one way or can it be rotated 90 degrees for edging without having to turn the entire tool? I like my Ryobi and the attachments can go on it several different orientations and wondering if this attachment system is similar. Thanks.
Hi Brad, The attachments are notched so that they will only fit on the multi-head one way. As far as I can tell there's no way to rotate it 90° for edging unfortunately. But there is an edger attachment which works really well that was included in the combo kit I bought with the multi-head system.
Switching from Kobalt today. Looks like that multitool has the motor in the rear where the dedicated tool has the motor on the trimmer head. Is that correct? Waiting for my trimmer. I got the 18" chainsaw , the hedge trimmer and Rapid charger today.
Hi Willa, I'm not entirely sure, but yes, based on its weight I would say the motor on the multi-head is in the rear. I've really enjoyed using the multi-tool. Be sure to let me know what you think of the 18" chainsaw. I have the pole saw and I use it all the time for trimming our trees and cutting up branches for campfires, its super convenient.

My biggest question is, how many charge cycles will the batteries go through before degrading? The ego replacement batteries are hella expensive so that's a significant concern.
Hi Dave, I've been using the EGO products for about 3 years now. My oldest battery is a 5.0AH battery. I'm still using it for all my yard needs and also to help power the EGO Power station that I just did a review video on the channel (worth checking out by the way - czcams.com/video/irD7fsk3y4k/video.html). I typically trim every few weeks from April - October here in Wisconsin, and I can still get through trimming my yard on a single charge with no problem. It takes me about 45 minutes. So I probably use the battery and recharge it 15 times a year just for trimming and then about another 5 times a year for tree trimming/edging, so maybe 20 times per year. Over 3 years, I've probably cycled it at least 60 times, which probably isn't a ton compared to others, but for my average use, I'd say that's a good estimate. If the battery is degrading, I haven't noticed it yet.
Is it necessary to wear ear protection with these EGO multi-tool electric head units? Or could you have a conversation or listen to music while trimming (vs. ear protection with gas units being a must)
I will typically listen to music while I am doing trimming around the yard I wear earbuds or headphones and I can hear just fine. I don't know if it's necessary to wear ear protection unless you have sensitive ears, I don't know if I would be able to hold a decent conversation while trimming though, as the unit does make some noise trimming the actual grass or weeds. I do think it's much quieter than a traditional gas-powered unit.
Any thoughts on the battery backpack? Particularity if your wife wants to use the tools at times?
I haven't had the chance to try the battery backpack but from the research I've done it looks very cool. I might be investing in this at a later point and doing a review.
The Echo Speed Feed works exactly the same as the EGO except it fits on gas-powered trimmers. It fits all Echos and many other brands of gas trimmers.
would anyone know if ego products are good for commercial use?
For the Edger Blade / Flip over the blade 180 degrees and you will get more time on the blade. Same thing on the chainsaw bar / flip it over so it lasts longer.

I clean my ego mower after every use but never my trimmer. My looks like swamp thing. I would definitely clean that edger.
@Bryan Bowen - I have a pressure washer and normally just give give them a “once over” with it about once a month. I don’t clean the trimmer every time unless it gets really gunked up. My edger nearly always gets jammed up with dirt after use, so I either hose it down or break out the ole pressure washer. I just like my tools very clean, so I probably go a little overboard in the cleaning department.

I bought the Ego lawnmower about six years ago because I bought a gas powered mower and about the third year it would not start. I actually stumbled on the Ego products while on CZcams. Decided to do it. Paid about $550.00 for the mower. Keep in mind a decent gas mower is $300.00 and up. Each year I charge the battery pull the bar back and press the button. Never a problem. No gas, no oil, no nothing. I now have the weed whacker and the chainsaw. Next is the snowblower at about $700.00.
honda only for gas powered lawn mowers; they start every time for me and that's about 7 yrs so far on a used one that i bought from someone moving into a highrise retirement spot
@@ruffings Understood, but I still don't have to run up for gas, change oil and that sort of thing. Also it's half the weight of gas mowers. I'm not trashing gas mowers, it's just I had to move on.
@@stevemellinger3776 I had a Honda mower for about 10 years. I had all kinds of problems getting it to start that last few years. I went with the Ego SP mower and I love it. I'm on my 3rd cutting season and so far this mower has started up EVERY time. The only maintenance is sharpening the blade and charging the battery. I'll never go back to a gas powered mower.

I did some deep research and almost went with Ryobi and saw they had a lot of battery problems. That led me to Ego and I've been and "Egomaniac" ever since. I'm in my fifth year with an Ego push mower and original battery (5 amp) and second year on the Z6ZT. Just can't say enough about Ego. It actually fun to mow again.
Due to my areas laws gas is not allowed, so from a gas model to an electric model the weights not a problem its an improvement if anything

Are the head units universal like gas trimmers are? And I wonder if a gas head unit would fit egos shaft? Like if we already have a gas trimmers with all the attachments, would they fit the ego power unit like you have.

Those blades on the edger are blunt when you put them on, they grind away against your hardscape, sidewalks and such,
you merely replace them once they become too short to be useful.
With the multi-tool system and the motor being up by the battery, do you notice much of a delay in the motor spooling up to it's full rpm's with the different tools? Or is it not really noticeable?
Kyle Brydon I don’t notice delays. If anything being electric pulling the trigger gives a quick response.
Disappointed in my Ego Blower, trimmer, and edger! Rate as 1 star! My battery or charger must be defective. It only last 8-10 minutes before needing a charge. Also, does not have much power when in use. I registered the warranty and even called the company to times. Spoke to the same young lady twice. She said that 8-10 mins is standard. I think she is wrong, from your video and others from CZcams. I told her if she was correct, the product was not worth the money to lose power and have to be charged that quick. What do you think? Hey Marty, I'm sorry to hear that you are having a bad experience. I've had mine for a few years now and I really like the EGO products. I usually get more than 8-10 minutes when using the multi-tool and I'm still using the original battery from years ago. It might be worth calling again or contacting them online about an exchange.

Short answer yes.
Long answer the batteries are 2 different amp hours. Mower is bigger and heavier at 7.5. Trimmer is 2.5
@@Integrity.is.everything My EGO Power Head trimmer/ edger combo came with a 5 AH battery. Doesn't matter the size of the battery, they all fit all of the tools. Even the new 10AH will fit my tools.

I've been checking that ego out I hear that they're kind of expensive that's what I hear and when you start getting around $300 or so it should come complete with a strap and everything still checking I will keep you apprised of the situation how I come out on this but today it's a lot easier with a weed wacker is a lawn mower can only do so much and I'm and I got a new lawn mower however I should have got me either a hunter or Snapper but I think but I should have done I've been checking on electrics but I won't want to pull itself that's the only way to go today but I'm retired and I'm getting up there but these gardener

any guidance when you can't thread the trimmer easily?
Hi Heidi, I make sure the trimming line feeding holes are lined up in the head before threading the trimmer. If I push the line through and it doesn't seem to make it all the way because I feel it pushing against something, I slightly pull the trimming back and then try to push it through again. I usually feed about 7 feet of line through and have another 7 feet of line on the other side of the head, so a total of 14 feet of trimming line that I then wind up inside it. That seems to work best for me. If you're still having trouble you may want to use a screwdriver to gently pry off the trimming head on the release areas and make sure there's no tangled trimming line inside or that no debris is blocking the hole where you need to feed the trimming line. What speed do you use with the edger?
I use setting #1. That cuts down on flying debris. If I am edging a sidewalk, etc. the first time I take a 1/2 moon shovel to make the starter "ditch". Then the edger works more smoothly.
What are cons to getting to the multi powerhead vs standard weed eater?
It costs more, but that's about it. Its convenient to switch out the various tools.

Hey Justin, I'm also 6ft tall as well. Its a comfortable length for me, I bought the shoulder strap and that's made my trimming experience even easier so I can rest it on my shoulders.

Does the fact that this tool does not have a variable speed trigger make it a deal breaker???
It has a 1 or 2 number speed control switch on the pole that you can adjust the setting, but it does start right up full speed. For me this was no big deal.
The trigger is for variable -speed control

Ego 56V blower - too heavy for any extended use. Also appears out of balance when using it. I am a healthy average home gardener. Going back to Stihl gas powered blower which I have used before with no issues.
Who sharpens an edger blade?
Guys that make videos about backyard battery tools but never really learned about tools other than Home Depot's employee debrief at the time of purchase. The danger now days is buying online and never getting the 15 second training course from the friendly orange vest. Ordering online means you only have videos like this one to go from when learning about tools. I read a lot of comments to find anyone else who noticed his sharpening comment...

One thing he never mention is the noise, there is no noise or very little with the ego trimmer as compared to a gas trimmer or even electric trimmer. So you don't need ear muffs

I can typically get at least an hour of use out of my battery. It typically takes me about 45 minutes to trim my entire yard and I can usually do it all on one battery charge with still enough left to use the leaf blower to blow grass clippings.
EGO is ANYTHING but economical! I currently own a blower, hedge trimmer, string trimmer, two chainsaws, and mower. A battery replacement completely nullifies any perceived savings. I have had a 2.5, 4.0 and 5.0 battery go bad in the matter of 5 ish years. That is $650 worth of batteries! Not counting maintenance, oil or spark plugs, at $3.50/gal, that is 185 gallons of gasoline. You get the point. You do not purchase EGO to save money. It is far more expensive than gas powered equipment.
I think you but then for convenience and hassle-free use. I have had gas powered tools and they are a pain, particularly chain saws, which for a woman, can be difficult to start, not to mention the almost annual trip to the repair shop.
Sharpen the stick edger blade? Big no on that one. New blades are not sharp and squared off to create a better edge.

Lithium ion likes to stay charged up. Don’t run it down too far. Batteries plus reconditions batteries. Check with them.

FYI, you do not sharpen edger blades. Take a look at a brand new one. They aren’t sharpened. Simply replace when they wear down.
