  • In this video I tear down the whole front suspension to be cleaned and painted. It's going back together will all new ball joints and bushings. I bought a set of big block Chevelle springs to hopefully lift the front end a few inches for a nose high stance.

I dropped a big block 396 back in the early 70s in my 56 Chevy Hearst used to make a kit to do this and in their instructions they told you just to bang the firewall in around 3 inches to clear the right back of the head It actually comes out pretty smooth using a small sledgehammer 10 minute job over the years we used to buy big blocks from wrecked Chevelle’s and drop them the shoebox as these cars Were all over the place ! I must have known at least five guys out here on Long Island who totaled out their Chevelle‘s and just bought a clean 55 And use their parts to get back in the game

DD Speed Shop I did my first one 7 years ago but couldn’t find the 2 door pillars for the doors so had to fab everything for that. This one I have everything like yours ..

I know i aint telling you anything but with those riveted ball joints i take an air hammer and a nice sharp flat chisel to them and knock the heads off the rivets. Than take a punch and knock the rivets right out. Makes for a fast clean job!

Frame came out really nice! Those bushing are a pain. An air chisel is supposed to work well. For Getting them out haven't tried it though. Might want to think about distributor clearance as well. Depending on what type you go with. Most go with the small cap. But I like the Large cap Hei. Easy to get parts for and pretty much trouble free. I had to take a hammer and dolly. To make clearance for it. But it's easy to get a dolly and hammer in there. with the motor out and the small trans cover removed. Little filler and paint and it never happened.

Yeah I'm gunna try to set the motor ahead a little. I'd like to keep the firewall stock if I can

Instead of rebuilding that old suspension why you get you a front clip from an 80's Camaro and graft it on. You are a excellent welder so that would not be to much trouble for you. That way you get disk brakes and a sway bar plus they drive a lot better.

Thanks man! I've never had a tri five before so I wanted to rebuild the front en stock. I might end up putting a different front clip on down the road. Thanks for the tip and the support!
