- BYU sophomore James Corrigan finished third in the 3k steeplechase at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials. However, he currently is not on Team USA due to not having achieved the Olympic standard mark of sub-8:15. Fortunately, fellow training partner and U.S. Trials champion Kenneth Rooks plans to help him chase the standard in Philadelphia on Saturday night June 29th. I had a chance to film their final workout together in Eugene before they flew to Philly to chase James' Olympic dream.
Note: James and Kenneth started their workout while I was finishing up filming Elise Cranny, so I don't have footage of the first half of their workout. You can see their full splits below.
The Workout:
1 mile tempo (4:00 rest)
4x400m (1:10 rest)
4x200m (1:30 rest)
The Splits:
4:50/1:02/1:03/1:01/1:00/27.9/28.4/27.2/27.9

BYU split shorts are the secret to success
Update: they worked 👀
My man’s running form is so smooth
Him and rooks gonna get the US back on the podium
I really hope he gets it. He really deserves it.
He did :)
@@thomasanderson9460 He hasn't run yet, so he hasn't gotten it yet. If he doesn't run the Olympic Standard this saturday he is not going to the Olympics.
@@CM-hk8so and he did it
He did it!!!!
Wow this was fantastic! He's got a shot at it!
Look at James, Look at James! OMG!
Great videos lately !!! I’m loving the pre Olympic content
I enjoyed hearing from the coach this time
He did it.
This man is going the distance
Joey Bagz sighting? ⚒️⚒️⚒️
Oh hell. I should’ve watched whole vid first. Several pros in the background. Engels, Dathan. I probably missed more.
Is Saturday's race with James being live-streamed anywhere?
BYU split shorts 🤤
Is Kenneth going to pace him in Philly?
Yes, it says it in the description
I think they are just both going after it , there is never really pacing in steeple
@@brodyjones6116I used to think that but I’ve seen pacers for women a few times in the past couple years. It’s crazy.
@@crosscountry7587Thanks. That wasn’t completed when I watched.
Is this being televised?
Is it fair to set the most ideal conditions possible for this runner?
Is it fair to not break the rules? I’d say so.
@@brucebogtrotter3430 clarify please
@@brucebogtrotter3430 could you please clarify your comment?
@@1105pitbull I mean so long as he is following the rules, it is fair. It’s a weird situation, I agree, but it’s available to everyone, everywhere, and if we don’t like it, the rules should be changed. We can’t blame the athlete or coach or team for doing whatever they can to get to the Olympics.
@@brucebogtrotter3430 Is if fair to pull strings to get the event upgraded to a Challenger Event so that points can be added on to the performances that wouldn't have been available without out his intervention? Is it fair to have "rabbits" for pacing that are not used in standard steeplechase events?
Don't know who owns this track. Are they happy about all this traffic? Inside edge of lane 1 already ruined.
Oh no!!!! The track is being used by runners
Probably ruined by a football team walking across it. World class track athletes are not the problem.
Public track in Eugene. High volume.
