    But in all honesty would you say its better than the 6250, which gives traffic and speed camera for life via a built in sim, it seems like this one has taken a step back by needing to be tethered to a smartphone.

    Ye my old version does the same going through llanwrtyd. When I'm heading south from Newtown I don't turn it on till I'm heading down the sugerloaf. Sends you miles out. I think someone must have twatted the guttering on one of them houses. The lights are down now so time they moved that hight restriction. Gotta say I love the Tom Tom. So much better than the Garmin for zooming in on the route that it has chosen. I've got 200% confidence in it.

    I'm 100% with you on the numbers. It's so annoying. 7inch display and still have to mess around to type the postcode. My first 4inch Tomtom had it all on one page. It makes so much more sense

    Hi Scott, thanks for the TomTom review, can you tell me if it has a ‘true north’ setting (i like the map the right way up) i use this setting on my old garmin. And .. does this Tom Tom show the low bridges, as you approach them or does it just want to divert you around them, without actually depicting them on the map? I’m on 16’ deckers this xmas and i fancy a proper sat nav rather than using my bridge map which is a bit old and tatty now lol. Cheers man. Regards Richard

    Scott, you mentioned looking at signs to double check, if signs on your routes are anything like where I am they have disapared into the hedges and undergrowth, I feel sorry for strangers who do not know the area as they have not a chance of fining places unless they do have a satnav, even then it sends them the wrong way. stay safe.🌈

    Someone please reply
    I use the tomtom Go pro 520, i connect to traffic using hotspot tether on my phone. Is this function just the same as using the sim for traffic updates? ( may sound like a dumb question). But the reason i asked is because the hotspot tether option i use is lifetime free instead of needing a subscription after a year.
    Also, ive tried to find this go expert in shop with built in sim amd some shops say it has sim amd some say it doesnt.
    Last question... if its only a year service with the sim, do you have to update the sim or just purchase new yearly subscription?
    Sorry for the long message, im a class 1 driver and even though i connect to live traffic my nav sometimes doest pick up a live road closure, is this normal sometimes? Thank you for taking the time to read this

  • @umbrellaman2501

    Garmin's lane assist is a good feature TomTom needs. As a 'for instance' today I had to get off at the M25 junc 21A, which for some reason I have problems with both sides of the M25 with this junction, because the sign on the motorway shows the turn off as being further down from Junc 21, or I think it is. But it's not, M25 21A shares the same exit as 21. Annoying junctions like this would be made each easier if TomTom had a similar lane guidance like Garmin's does. The same junction with Garmin I have no problems. I also find Garmin's lane assistance helps me in London, and mostly big cities where I am freaking out trying to see the correct lane I need to be in to approach my next turn.

      @@gazz5808 At work we have Garmin in the vans, I think it's a Dezl 780, but they also do a cheaper (£245) Dezl 580 and you tether it to your phone for live traffic and weather updates, my truck has a TomTom 6250. I've used both and the lane assist with Garmin definitely an advantage over TomTom.

    This is a really great and banging Go Expert. By Tom Tom, it is the business!! Buy it from Halfords, if it is your first Tom Tom you will be amazed, it updates every map going. It's easy to use just insert all your trucks dimensions, L/H/W/axle Weight.
    All your bridges and London zones are sorted and well...., all that the man is saying. Great screen 7 inches is ample.
    Tip: Work on the volume to get it highest, by charging at home first, give it a good initial charge and that will bring your volume up for directions from the voice. Also - you can give it your voice commands so as you don't need to distract from driving. A very handy tool. I strongly recommend it!!

    Sat navs are so behind with tech. When I'm looking for a company to deliver to, I Google it, it shows gates, entrances, if tomtom or garmin got in with Google and merged that search feature into their nav's that would be great. Imap's is brilliant for car nav, put number 2 Bert Road for instance, it will take you outside of No 2!!! Also leaving a motorway junction, why can they tell you to be in the right lane as you approach the roundabout, so your prepaid? Not finding out to late and having to haul 60 foot of truck across lanea! And, there's more! Why can't the thing tell a joke, weather, news, as your driving down 46 miles of boring motorway! Something to pass the time away! I just think these sat navs are pretty basic, and could be so much better. Its a the main tool every driver needs. 26 years ago, I used a street atlas to deliver in Central London with an artic!! Imagine that now!!!!😱

    • @emilymegansscoliosisjourne4996
      @emilymegansscoliosisjourne4996 Před 2 lety

      Totally agree.For the money these devices cost they should do a lot more than they do.Your example of lanes when exiting the motorway and turning onto a roundabout is spot on.They should guide you the whole way to your exit.Also and this is my main problem with them, is truck pois are horrific.You cant search for motorway services when looking for closest overnight parking!! One of the main things you need it for when your stuck!

    Scott, is TomTom on Android (from Google Play) basically the same as their standalone device Go Expert?
    It has truck subscription and it costs 100€ a year, or I believe it's 50€ for first year after the week of testing.
    It seems being same (which is not surprising), and in some ways even better, one can use Map2Geo for example, tablet is usually faster than the standalone device, I'm assuming the app gets improvements too, etc. Plus it seems to cost even less (like if we consider say 50€ for first year, say 100€ for next, etc, in 2-3 years the standalone device will probably get updated anyway).
    Also I believe, although I'm didn't verify, speedcam and traffic - with the standalone device you need to pay 30€ a year after first year, but in the Android app I believe it's included in the price. So there is that too.

    should definately have gone with the USB-C Option - the Micro USB gets bent far too easily (even when you are super careful). I am now on my 3rd windscreen mount for this GPS as it doesn't seem to matter how careful you are unplugging/plugging it in it still gets bent and eventually wont charge. Maybe fine for those who get your own truck and can leave the sat nav in your cab all the time, and not unplug it - but for those of us who are not in that group, installing then removing the cable at the start/end of every shift soon takes its toll on the Micro USB connector.

      Its a setting you can change, Scott obviously has it set to imperial, although I do wish there was more flexibility in these settings. I would like the option to have weights in metric, and dimensions in imperial, as that is how most trucks still display them, but unfortunatly its either or, which means most of the time you have to convert the vehicle height into meters.

    I would like to see speed cameras updates for life one year soon goes by and then you have to pay unlike the 6250 just do the update no need for phone tether I guess this saves money on an internal sim a step backwards perhaps but that’s not a criticism Tomtom are great sat navs

    i got the 6200 at the minute 2 days ago i was out in an 18t rigid the fucking thing lead me down the narrowest road ever only to end up having to reverse half a mile back up the road as it was impossible to carry on, i was shitting myself haha needless to say all the cars behind me weren't impressed, one oldish woman even called me a useless prick which i found quite funny 🤣✌

      I had the same problem... didn't rate the past 2 tom tom units. Didn't renew traffic or cameras... rip off. Changed over to garmin... see how it goes 👍

      Tomtom want as much cash of you as they can speed cameras traffic all sat navs should have sim built in and change from miles to metric km kg
      Also its 2021 get rid off micro USB

    I told TomTom when I sent my last truck nav back that I couldn't live without multiple vehicle profiles because I change trucks all the time. And yes, as class 1 drivers we change trailers and they have different heights. Can't believe they didn't put that in. You just saved me £350.

    • @johnnyhun1
      @johnnyhun1 Před 2 lety +3

      you know that before every route plan tomtom asks the details about your truck? How hard is it to just click 2 times and set the height from 4 meters to like 5 or whatever the differences? :D Such a luxury problem... bigger problem is that tomtom re-route itself the way he wants without letting you know ...

    • @IndigoJo
      @IndigoJo Před 2 lety +2

      @@johnnyhun1 I pay money for these things and I expect them to do what I want otherwise I send them back. It's often more than two clicks, and they would be unnecessary if TomTom let me save profiles.

      @johnnyhun1 Před 2 lety +1

      @@IndigoJo well driving trucks isnt the same thing? Every brand has great things that others dont, and every brand has bad things that others dont. Daf has a pretty cool slide table in front, but also the steering wheel cant be raised high enough, while for ex in volvo you can raise pretty well the steering wheel but it doesnt have any normal place to cook or eat, etc etc etc.... you just have to live with the problems and enjoy the good stuff :D and owners pay for these hella lot more money than what you pay for a tomtom :D

      I have had a Garmin and Tom Tom running at the same time a few times. Garmin was always more reliable by far.

      I would say the same. A Garmin dezl 700 is a better satnav and it does have LIFETIME speed cameras. I don't get it how for 400£ you only get one year...

  • @rmc5278
    @rmc5278 Před 2 lety

    useful I guess but for £400 I would just rather struggle . Will just use google maps and if I come across bridges or restrictions I will plan round it , easy 😊 .

    I’ll stick with my 6250 now that TomTom are not now releasing this one with the built in sim.

    Seems to be a pointless update. I still use my go professional 6200. Yes it can be funny sometimes with roads and restrictions but only a complete idiot follows exactly what the sat-nav says. Completely agree with Scott , changing vehicle dimensions all the time is a pain. I also wish they would allow us to add custom POI logos to make it easier to spot them on the map.
