FREEZING Helvellyn Solo Bivi Camp At Over 3000ft

- Lake District - Headed up to the summit of Helvellyn, Englands 3rd highest mountain at 3114ft, for a solo bivi camp in my Alpkit Hunka XL bivi bag. Considering its the most popular mountain in Britain it was wonderful to have the place to myself for the night. An amazing cold night of solitude on the mountain, with very little wind and clear skies above. Fantastic views down to Red Tarn and along Striding Edge. A nine mile round trip from Thirlmere with 3000ft of ascent.

I went there (Keswick) yday for the first time. I remember my reaction to Brencathra as we passed it on the bus from Penrith. I couldn't take my eyes off it; its sheer height and breadth was magnificent.

The aeroplanes you saw will be Ospreys. Fantastic bits of kit, and eerily quiet for their size!
Great to look at but feck going in the back of one.
They're noisy, uncomfortable and seemingly designed to shake your filings out.

The lakes , like the Highlands, where I live, do get their fair share of rain, but when the sun's out its the best scenery in the country . 👌

Excellent Bivi on "Sunrise Mountain" Dave . They call it Sunrise Mountain because apparently more people watch the sunrise from Helvellyn than any other mountain in the Lake District .
It is a fair schlep back through the trees to the car Dave too . All in all though , another great overnighter in the 5 billion star hotel . Nice 1 .

I've done that Browncove route many a time....including in the snow - which was pretty hair-raising! Amazing spot for a bivvy and so nice to see it without loads of other people. I'd just watched your snowy swirral edge descent video so the contrast couldn't be greater!

i was up the other week when you was and what lovely warm weather with the odd patch of snow, then wednesday this week i hiked up White side and Raise in full winter gear to ski down, crazy!!

Thanks for that James. Ive been on CZcams for 18 months now and the total ad revenue isn’t even enough to buy me a new Go Pro. Ive spent way more on equipment to make these films than I’ve earned from CZcams. I really don’t think some people have a clue about this.
