  • Today I want to find out what the difference is between my $6000 2023 Polygon Collosus N9 Custom Dream Build and the New 2024 Polygon Collosus N7 in stock form. Let’s take a closer look at these 2 Enduro Mountain Bikes and take them out on my test loop to see how these 2 very different MTBs ride on the same trails. In this video series, I’ll be Upgrading everything on the N7 with a $1000 budget to see how close I can get it to feel to a bike Twice the Price. Welcome to High vs Low!

    Question for you guys…
    What do you think I change on the bike?

      Loved Evans series. I'd sort out ergonomics first so you feel comfortable on it: riser bar, grips, dropper remote lever, grippy pedals- all cheap upgrades. Then brakes and wheels on second hand market- faster acceleration and deceleration. What I end up doing on my bikes, although probably over a longer time scale though 😅

      First I would go tubeless. Then I would swap the front tire. Then try and source a 4 pot tektro caliper for the rear and change the rotors and pads to Shimano saint.
      After all that if I have the spare cash I'd go for a nukeproof or hunt wheelset.
      The bike would be perfect that way.

      I say you should not go with the used market for this series simply because its not repeatable by others. You might get a better deal because you're a you-tuber. Or that one person is desperate to sell but if we ere following you to see whats possible on a budget, we should be able to do it too :) That being said, start with good pads before upgrading the caliper. MTX pads...I wonder IF they are worth the Hype .

    I'm surprised that you can't lock up the rear wheel. I've never had that issue on any of my bikes, and I ride Walmart bikes!
    My Schwinn Knowles has a rim brake in the rear, and my Kent Trouvaille has a 160mm mechanical disc brake in the rear. Both can lock up the rear wheel, even on asphalt. I did take the time to bed in the brakes on the Kent Trouvaille, so maybe that's why they work so well.

    Even the baller bike is just insanely heavy, especially for carbon rims. My RM Altitude with a very similar build but with carbon frame + alloy rims is 34.4lbs with cushcore out back. For the budget bike, SRAM DB8s for the brake upgrade, probably the best brakes SRAM makes right now and cheaper than even Deore 4 pots. And aside from tire/wheel upgrade, I'd definitely toss a damper upgrade in that Zeb if it's in the budget.

    • @TopToBottomMTB
      @TopToBottomMTB  Před 6 měsíci

      Yeah the N9 has the big 2.6” Magic Mary’s with Cushcore pro front and back. Also the thick 2.3” TRP rotors are also heavy but super reliable. Like I said in the video, it’s built for Whistler and not for climbing trails…

  • @bjornfongern4850
    @bjornfongern4850 Před 6 měsíci

    I would do contact points/ergonomics first. Bars, pedals, saddle, grips. For the brakes I´d get the biggest rotors you can fit and see what that does. If that´s not enough you can throw on some Shimano Deores /SLX or Magura MT5 afterwards and still benefit from the big rotors. If the tires work tubeless I would try that first. Lower tires pressures should definately improve traction and you save a bit of rotational weight. Suspension and wheels get expensive real quick so I´d play with suspension settings/pressures/tokens first before investing any money. I am sure there are some improvements to be found here without spending any money. Wheels I´d only touch if/when they start braking on you. The Deore drivetrain is fine. A XT shifter makes a nice upgrade though for feel and shifting performance. The cassette is heavy but I would wear that out and replace with sth. lighter afterwards.

    You’re missing the point here, the components that you put on a bike are only as good as the frame it’s on. So by saying that polygon bikes are not good, the kinematic are not good on the bike so no matter how much money you pour into the bike it won’t make a difference. Frame is where the money should be spent first.

    • @TopToBottomMTB
      @TopToBottomMTB  Před 6 měsíci +6

      The frame on the N7 & N9 are fantastic! The cheap build kit brings down on feel and ergonomics alone. Brakes can use some bite and the weight of the generic components can be improved…💪🏻
