    Hey Marty--I successfully replaced my MTen3 motor! It was actually easier to do than I thought. I was hesitant at the start, not wanting to create more damage during opening but once I got in there, it was actually not that difficult. Your video was helpful to remind me how things went back in upon re-assembly, although I took a few creative licenses in where I placed the wires. My axle broke at 544 miles and now I have a new motor. Cheers! :)

      Glad your operation was successful. The MTen3, as wheels go, is easy to work on. Putting the tire on the rim is probably the hardest operation. Unfortunately, being such a small wheel, it has the old school small axle so it's probably easier to break the axle, but I image you were doing some rough stuff with it to cause it to break???

      @@ElectricUnicycles Yes, I was hopping up a little step / ledge downtown and riding off it. Not terribly steep but I've never taken it off a curb more than 4" and I haven't done a terrible number of jumps on it. Staying grounded from now on!

  • @micro-mobilityinclearlaket9041

    Thanks for sharing, this was great. I have a nearly new MTen3 just like yours. It's already been back for repair. From the first time I powered it I found the fan noise disturbing-- how does that work? Is there an air filter? Where does the air come from? Where does it go? Does it suck dust in? My fans rattle sometimes, can a dead fan leave me stranded? So I loved seeing how and where dirt enters and deposits, and what's going on with the layout of the fans (although the active heat dissipation system still doesn't look any more effective to me than a heat sink integrated with the case). I've been riding EUC less than a year but already have learned to be wary of cut-outs!

    • @ElectricUnicycles
      @ElectricUnicycles  Před 3 lety

      Depending on how you use it the wheel certainly could overheat if the fan(s) fail. Most Gotway wheels now use fans, and you are correct when you wonder where the air is coming from. They just circulate the air that's in the wheel and let "fresh" air get in via an cracks/joints in the shell. It's a crappy cooling design to be honest, but that's what they do. In general, the fans seem reliable and failures aren't very common from my experience.
      BTW, if the wheel overheats it will simply beep and tilt-back, forcing you off the wheel. You wait a few minutes and then you can continue on your way. You can monitor the temperature with the Begode app or EUC World or Darkenessbot. The wheel overheats at 79-degrees Celsius.

    1st thank you for all your time and effort in making these videos! VERY HELPFUL! You should be getting wheels for free at this point.
    2nd I recently purchased Mten3 the largest model and mine seems to have a manual calibration feature. when I turn it off the calibration is erased, so right before I turn it on I need to hold it at the tilt I want to ride then turn it on and it keeps that angle till I turn it off.
    Is this normal?
    I've tried to research it but I haven't found any info. Jason is looking into it but I thought I'd ask another EUC professional.

    • @ElectricUnicycles
      @ElectricUnicycles  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi. Thanks for the nice note and congrat's on getting the Mten3. Your calibration issue is absolutely not normal. In all my years I've actually never heard of this issue occurring on any wheel. This makes me think that there's a problem with the Flash Memory. Do your other settings go away too? Switch the pedal mode, turn off and on the wheel, and see if the pedal mode also reverts. If it does, that confirms the problem is with the Flash Memory.

    I had a brand new Inmotion V10F fail in a similarly mysterious way - it tipped over at walking speed on the third trip I took with it and was stone dead from that moment on. Couldnt switch it on anymore, nothing obvious wrong when I disassembled it and looked at the electronics. I unplugged the battery too for a hard reset but that didnt do anything either. I wasnt too unhappy because it had been a discounted wheel and the warranty card showed why: it was nearly a year and a half old when I bought it. That wasnt worth 70€ off to me! Thankfully I could send it back and got all my money back but it still cost me seven weeks of riding time with great weather until I got my new wheel.

    Ah damn I was waiting for the "it's not a mosfet, it's something simple!" moment. Yea they sure looked fine, I never saw one that was blown that did not have an obvious sign externally. Also I thought on other Gotway wheels when a mosfet blows the wheel still turned on but wouldn't balance/move?

    • @ElectricUnicycles
      @ElectricUnicycles  Před 6 lety +5

      From the Forum, it appears that there are other possible failure mechanisms, like the DC Converter module. Since my wheel still freely turns, it probably isn't a MOSFET. Just stay away from turnstiles are you'll be fine ;-)

      @Duf Před 6 lety +2

      Reminds of those Msuper V3 failures early when the one guy got caught in soft sand for a second and it blew the wheel. Same with Ian, however I think in both of those examples the mosfets did actually blow. Whatever the cause, I hope you get it back on the road asap.

    if you suspect that something burnt out on your main-board then you should look around the board for scorch marks and if you don't see any sniff around the board and hub motor for burnt odor because some electronic board have protection circuit that shuts down if it gets to hot. you can separate the hub motor, fans, battery and main-board and then power up each one to see if they still work using power supply or extra known good battery.

      Im thinking about buying a gotway MCM v4 but I was told that you can't upgrade from 340Wh to 680Wh. if gotway made up-gradable electric unicycles and start off from low cost stock models, with starting price at $300-$500 before upgrades gotway would do fine. They got 3000-5000 watt hub motors for bikes that do 72-110 km/h. imagine putting a 5000 watt hub motor on a electric unicycle.

    -They should not manufacture things like that. That should be only for business question and sell spare part.
    -From my experience with Drone, it should be like that:
    -The PDB (power distribution) us separated to the controller board are all with STM32F3 or F4 chip and F1 is no longer used (how Msuper S3 + 1600 is F1 😱, how can it be?) The difference in frequency between F1 and F4 is huge but the difference price is ridiculous, in the drone to be F3 or F4 allows us better update frequency for the PID and protocol Dshot👍😊 between controller and motor drive ESC (the outdated pwm 👎 is no longer used in drones.) Another interesting thing separates, is to be able to place antivibration on the controller board, that makes it much easier for PID calculations and unnecessary warming 🔥 of the ESC drive, and I think it is at the moment a business design for selling spare parts.
    ...for when a Betaflight style software for our wheels?...🤔
    Thanks for your videos always nice to watch.

      In either case, the only way to shut the wheel off is to open it and disconnect the battery cable. Place the wheel on its side with the handle pointing away from you and the headlight facing right. Remove the cover. I probably have a video which shows some of this on my Mten3 Playlist. It's very easy to do, and you really have no choice.
