For the "armor makes you dodge better" one, I just roleplay it as the attack bounces off your armor, without it getting through to flesh. Same thing for really big enemies. They're not dodging. Your blade just isn't piercing deep enough into it's hide.

      Exactly.
Enemy rolls a 17 on a paladin with plate armor? "The sword bounces off your armor"
The enemy rolls a 19? "The blade pierces through a gap in the plate, you take X damage"
Some system where the armor just lessens the damage would just make me go "Okay, so I should play a Monk or Barbarian or some class that gets Mage Armor so my AC actually works right"

Exactly, Chad. Base to hit is 10 + DEX (unless in Heavy Armor) meaning if they get that high, it hits you but is stopped by armor.
If you have plate and a shield, the first 17 is bouncing off your plate, 18 and 19 is you stopping it with your shield.

When there is a player that doesn’t want to adventure. When I have the rest of the party ready and roaring to go do something and I’ll get one player who just digs their heels in and refuses to go along with it. I get wanting to have realistic motivations, but you have to suspend your disbelief a little that you are willing to go adventuring with strangers. I should not have to move heaven and earth as a DM to try and convince just you that you should go kill the bandits.

So for me I’ve experienced a lot of pathfinder games of different quality and I’ve discovered my massive pet peeve: if the dm doesn’t plan or get people on track. The first one for not planning is so frustrating. I have 1 off day a week reserved for ttrpg day and those sessions are about 7 hours long. But it feels like only 2 hours of content is being done, the dm barely preps, barely does the maps, and it feels like we are wasting time. Because we have a session every 2 weeks. It’s just so frustrating. The second issue is when a dm sees people getting slightly off track in conversation, joins in that conversation, I try to get people back on track, the dm bitches at me, and then after the session he bitches at us for getting off track. Two different groups XD

I was around a game some acquaintances were playing once. There were three or four really smart, engineering type people in the group. Most games would hang up every now and then on little rules or physics issues, but the one I remember most is when one guy wanted to use the fly spell (they were all wizards/sorcerers, of course) and see if he could see this thing far off in the distance. We were in the 9 Hells. He started arguing about how far one could see, and the curvature of the planet, but it was a plane not a planet and it was entirely flat, so he should be able to see super far, but that would beak what the DM had planned, ect. Half an hour argument for a simple problem.

I think there's a couple things and it varies from instance to instance:
    1) Players who want to play a homebrew when there's something incredibly similar in the game. There are SO many races and subclasses it's hard to create a flavor of character that doesn't exist. What little doesn't exist can usually be achieved by re flavoring existing things. You wanna be a seagull person? Just roll an Aarakocra don't invent a whole race.
    2) Players or DMs that deliberately insert their irl biases into the game. Now a lot of this is vetting your players and DMs and having a session zero and THANKFULLY I have not encountered such people. But if you get the player who is concerned about there being polytheism in a game and therefore "satanic" well first maybe D&D is not for them but boy have I heard horror stories about them flipping out at the table. You wanna run a campaign based on your religious beliefs go ahead. And if you try and tell players that they can only roll characters of the same gender they are or act out because other players are or are playing anything of a particular gender, race, or orientation, I don't even want to be at the same table as you.

I also get us adults are busy, but I and 1 other person are THE MOST flexible mfers out there. If no one else can agree on at least 1 day we can get together, why bother? Interaction is a different beast. If you're gonna be there but have to leave for at least 1 hour before just having to hang up right after, then why bother coming?! Specifically in d&d (pretty much all editions) and its derivatives (not all of them, but most).
The rulebook talks about hp as this abstract measure of a characters ability to avoid a hit that would cause serious damage, through luck, stamina, etc.
Then you have the concept of AC as the ability of armour to be hit with an attack and absorb the impact to turn it into negligible damage.
Combine the two and you get low attack rolls that hit and have no effect and high attack rolls that miss but deal damage. Its incoherent game design, and its one of the sacred cows I doubt d&d will ever change.
Part of this does come from a bigger design issue, where there are two competing mechanics to represent the same concept, as well as one mechanic representing two separate concepts.
Take the concept of avoiding attacks. The speil about abstract hp makes it clear that having high hp means you do a better job at avoiding attacks, but adding dex to ac, and the language around attack rolls "hitting" or "missing" forms the strong impression that a character who is good at avoiding attacks should have high AC. Having a high AC doesnt necessarily mean you're good at avoiding attacks though, you could just be absorbing the blows.
The mechanics and what they represent are all really muddy.

Dead honesty: The lack or over abundance when it comes to different systems to play.
What do I mean by this?
Well most players really only play one of two systems D&D 5e and Pathfinder 2e, because well, that's what most players know. So when I want to play with people I go with DnD because while I'm still not sure what all the rules are, that's a system that you can't metaphorically bang your head against the wall and you'll be able to succeed, and doing so you'll figure out the rules, I know because that's no joke how I learned it. It can lead to some simple fun.
I tried to get to pathfinder a few times and have given up every single attempt, the first time it was literally the character sheet I couldn't tell what anything was if I had to lie out my teeth so I got intimated, currently everything after is when I think about figuring it out again, I (not in relation to actually to learning the system) WILL somehow run into videos that will talk about how pathfinder is better explain the mechanics between the two, and when they get to pathfinder's mechanics I go "We're doing multiplication division now!?!" that was actually said out loud by me once, but concept wise, yeah I got intimated over and over again.
The second type are the people who will bring in a new system every two weeks. No... I'll try new systems every now and then, but that's the thing, every now and then so I can see if its something I'd like, I'm not a game tester, I want to play a game still if we're doing something new.
Then we get to MY favorite system, which I still love to death, and anyone who knows me knows how sick they are of me talking about it, but I just love playing GURPS 3e. why 3? because I suffer from the same bias everyone else does with that being where I started, so I more familiar with it. Now despite Steven Jackson games still giving legacy support for it by selling basic sets and 2 compendium supplements, most moved to 4th. And 4th, I'll get to it eventually, but while does have some elements I love like know how much a character can lift and not just carry, to reorganizing the items and weapons section to something that is beyond fantastic for how convenient and smooth it is, it suffers from being split into 2 books and well... over doing it self, 3rd is dead simple and then gives you tools and suggestions to shape it to whatever, it is so simple it can not only gives rules for players and DMs, suggestions how to do things and why, but also includes a choose your own adventure book inside of the core rule book.
4th I thought was overly complicated, no, its just badly set up, its trying to accommodate for every scenario a player might want but in doing so makes it harder knowing what is an optional variant meant to help shape a game and what is a core rule, because from at least last time I went through it, it was written in a way where it made it feel like it was ALL core rules, and even then with the things I do know is a core rule there's still plenty I don't like and creates weird issues (I hate perks and the character sheet enforced advantage/disadvantage limit). I hope one day to go through it and be able to do a 4.5e because it really needs one, but I need to convince people to play it first with them being okay with awkwardness of me also trying to understand it.
But anyway, because of this, I have chosen the 1 system no one will ever go through long enough to be able to be a player for it ever again. Which while I enjoy DMing every now and then, I don't get to ever play my favorite system from the perspective where I feel in love with it.
So I guess the summery of what I hate: the fact I never get to play anything but what other want to just out of sheer basic psychology and familiarity with system that are more popular than mine. Forever stuck in D&D jail or have to face the wrath of the TTRPG system typhoon. With me never experiencing being a player again for the system that go me here.
I also need to throw this in here: to the guy in the video who complained about AC making you dodge better and wanting to do a system where armor absorbs damage but makes you easier to hit the bigger it is, GURPS literally does that, that is literally how it handles armor, although does have it so you could be doing cartwheels in plate armor with no dexterity disadvantage but you'd exhaust yourself faster too. It might be a good start to look at for ideas.

Basically everybody has what I call a "soul element"...in a nutshell, it makes them more adept at magic of the element type matching their "soul element" and allows them access to more powerful magic of that type, BUT, less adept at magic that doesn't match their "soul element" type, making magic users less overpowered overall.

Damn, the phrase "homebrew hell" hits me hard. Got a player who's a big fan of an older TTRPG edition that I hate. Loathe. With its early design and the excess of age to add on continued layers of power creep and third party crap, I don't want to touch it. But the newer edition has better-tamed numbers (mostly) so his spoiled ass gets upset whenever he can't farm up a dozen +10 bonuses for his preferred build. Though when I say "older TTRPG edition", it's just a skeleton of attributes with vaguely compatible monsters while he wants to use some homebrew with a billion wiki pages and freeform ability selection that the system was never designed for.
In the meantime, I'm running this game *for this mfkr,* and it's killing my vibe, because if I don't give him what he wants, it's Bitch City, and if I do, and any GM worth a salt knows this, *I have to make the monsters stronger to compensate!* Note to y'all, don't optimize the fun out of the game. Not saying don't do your best, but work *within* the system if you're going to minmax and munchkin.

I HATE DMs who railroad the campaign. Just last night I was playing with my Wednesday group and one of the players was guest DMing a homebrew setting/module he made and played with friends over years.
    Okay cool!
    Not cool.
The guy railroaded us whenever we wanted to try something not on his script. He would tell us what happened in spite of what we try, made my saving throw CANTRIP hit my ally because he was "blocking line of sight" even though I am Small, he is 6'8 and my target was a Goblin. I asked "wouldn't be 1/2 or even 3/4 cover?" NOPE! Ally got hit by a spell that required a SAVE NOT ATTACK ROLL.
Add in assuming we would do certain actions and telling us the result even before we decide if we even wanted to do it, me failing a Survival check (with a 14 at level 3 as a WIZARD) to follow a path we already traveled down AND somehow losing my spellbook I had explicitly stated stayed strapped to my belt when not in use. Don't worry, there was more bullshit for everyone, not just me.
Want me to check out? Start railroading. Maybe I should get him a conductor hat for the next time he runs...

To the guy on AC making you dodge better, it doesn't, or I should say it's abstraction of dodging, blocking, taking inconsequential hits, and parrying all rolled into one. And HP is not just a representation of health, it's a character's measure of risk. If you have a lot of HP you can risk more, and less HP means you'll have to be more conservative. So, risk (HP) is more of an abstraction of the character's combination of health, stamina, and mental grit.

For the guy who hates when players interrupt the villain’s monologue they could give their villains some kind of magic effect that protects them from attacks until they finish their monologue. It could be as simple as some kind of magical barrier separating them from the players.

The monologs are not made at the right time is the problem. The BBEG needs to have the heros in a position were it is impossible to attack or doing so will endanger there lives or others. At no time have I ever seen a BBEG in any other media just face to face try and lord over someone there Superiority in a long speech without something preventing the hero from interrupting in any real way.

Whenever I had a campaign to join My DM would always hate my character concepts saying that they were too much like Anime characters & tell me to revamp it yet when both My Girlfriend & one of our closest friends made their characters they also seemed like Anime characters yet the DM was completely fine with it...😑

11:00 yeah.. when you like combat and rules 3.5 is better than 5e.
and when you want combat to be quick savage worlds, pathfinder 2e, .... are better than 5e. 😅

The fact that you can’t freeze Simone’s blood with shape water is purely a balance thing. Shape water can freeze water. Blood contains water. Therefore logically shape water would be able to freeze blood.

I love the game but I hate my group of freinds, they never show up or get into the world they just think the game is a perpetual “run up and hit it” and I always have to drag them along.
They never work together so Im trying to find or start a new group who can actually play the game in my campaign whilst leaving theirs.
Its been 3 months since the last session and because we never play I keep changing out characters.

when i see something like the intimidation thing i ask why not just take the older version rules? maybe the reason why there are no rules for it is they already existed. treat it like v5.0 of a game instead of the 5th in a series.

presently I'm fed up with people dropping out and not telling me! if you don't want to play fine but your past commitment rots off the vine and effects the game my plans and the other players! 🤬

I actually don't mind when people have long turns. My only group usually lets other people make decisions, or in my case I end up making most of the decisions for the group outside of combat. I've tried in multiple situations to not talk during a dialogue to just see what would happen and my friends just don't make a decision lol. They'll wait through 30 seconds of silence then person a will ask person b what to do and b will ask c... and so on. So, when we get to combat and people actually come up with fun things to do or need to take a few minutes to describe what they are doing I usually welcome it. I also like to imagine we are gods controlling units in a game so who cares if time is paused for a while.

The dude complaining about low level play probably just has bad DMs that feel like they need to force you to roll dice for Everything. Won't even let you open a door without forcing you to see it if random chance will ruin your day.
Low level play is and should be fun, fundamental ascensions is that even a first level PC is a dramatic cut above the average person.
    Or...
Alternatively, if you're just annoyed because you can't tackle challenges better meant for high level play, then that's less of a DM problem and more of a you problem.

The cliques. Been searching for any group that will let someone into the scene for over 30 years..
I am averse to the whole "online experience," in person is so much better and I always bring snack-o's and brewski...
But, y'all are in a clique, and love it or hate it, seems nothing and nobody is changing that.

Anti social characters or edge lords. It’s a role playing game, it requires interaction, why would you play a character that doesn’t want to interact!?
Unless it’s someone’s who’s arc involves learning to like people I think it’s just pointless and stupid

    LEARN YOUR SPELLS!
This is the worst thing ever - people don't pay attention, and expect other people to know how their character works. STOP IT!

Agree on this one. I don't know every spell in the game by heart so know what your spell does, the type of save, and what the DC is. I don't mind helping someone understand what a specific spell does, but don't just spout a spell name and expect me to know exactly what it does. I'm not THAT good
