  • It's been a long time coming, but finally S5000 is looking on course to be a success in 2020.
But since the series isn't exactly finalised, it's a bit early to do 'An Introduction To:' video on it. Instead, here's a quick recap as to how the series formed including it's 3 year history of infighting and missed deadlines.
So join me for this video to learn about S5000, as fast as possible.

    Hey everyone,
Another different type of video this week, this time focusing on S5000, Australia's newest category.
I will be doing one of my 'Introduction' type videos for this series next year, but for now since the championship is still in its early days, I figured a quick history lesson was due. Especially since the history around this series is pretty damn confusing.
Let me know what you think, and as always suggestions are more than welcome.
EDIT: For those who want to see the racing from the Sandown round, check this link out: uk.motorsport.tv/program/australian-s5000-championship/1815

Considering that they've scrapped formula 4 in Australia; The S5000 series is the answer to an open wheel series in Australia, it's. going to be run alongside the TCR series so it looks like most of the premier drivers will be doing Supercars alongside; using it to refine their skills. I really hope this series takes off! Great videos btw Jacob, I've been binge watching them since discovering your channel 24 hours ago, amazing quality mate! I really hope you keep this up, I'll be along for the ride now as your channel skyrockets!!! :)

On faster circuits like Sandown where the S5000's can exploit the 560 bhp of the Ford V8, they are generally quicker than an F3. At Sandown the S5000's lowered the existing outright track record and were some 3 seconds faster than the F3's had gone there. One a tighter track however, they are actually no faster and in some cases slower than the F3's. This is because the cars have been deliberately engineered with less downforce so there is more emphasis on car set up to provide mechanical grip, and driver skill, which is pretty much exactly what they wanted.

Though as mentioned in the video, the only major race so far was cancelled mid-way through. Still have the race at Sandown soon though.

The biggest problem S5000 faces is illustrated by the attempt by V8 Supercars to derail it with their own series. This disingenuous stunt, which produced a car that could never have complied with modern safety standards, was nothing more than a veiled attempt to kill it. V8 Supercars wants nothing more that total _de facto_ control of Australian motorsport and anything that looks like it might be popular has to be controlled first and then killed off as quickly as possible.
The extent of their control is so insidious that even at the first event at Sandown in 2019, the back straight spectator areas were closed off. They are only allowed open when V8 Stupidcars race there.
S5000 might be slightly antediluvian in its concept and the cars might not be as fast as originally planned but they are challenging and difficult to drive and with the right support, would be able to grow in a way that threatens the hegemony of a category that is 20 years past its use-by date and has now descended into Machiavellian power games in order to remain relevant.
    Keep up the good work.
