p.s yeah I know about uncletopia, community servers etc, I still play those but this video isn't about tf2 being 'unplayable' it's about it receiving no major content patches for years. I still love the game and for what its worth it's in a good state balance wise but i've never really addressed how I feel about the game here on youtube so this video was more for me airing out my feelings than it was informing people about how I still think it's an amazing game regardless of circumstance. - Hry

I've played this game for 6 years and have never experienced a major update.

Frankly I feel the only thing keeping the game from getting a community run revival project is Valve's admission of abandonment and blessing. I mean I don't know if it'd have that same touch that pre 2016 tf2 had, but it would be a hell of a lot better than the shambling husk of a game we're dealing with now.

I got into tf2 in 2020 during the bat soup stuff, prior to that i did know the game and had a bit of an idea of how each class played but when i actually started playing i was hooked and when 2021 came around i already had about 450 to 500 hours in the game. But looking back to 2010-2017 i really feel like i missed out on what the game had to offer while its dev actually cared about it.
Ive been playing since shortly after Blue Moon. I never actually got to experience balance changes, but at least I have gotten to toy around with 'balance changes' through vscript. Really quite cool

man, I was sooo invested in the content OUTSIDE the game back in the day. The comics, the movies, waiting for the expiration date counter to expire with my friend (even though it was in the middle of the night, thanks, US timezones). Yes, I have played, but getting the back scatter while knowing the story behind it gave it more importance. I miss those days.

TF2 was wild back in 2012 - 2018. It recieved alot updates, alot of youtubers played the game , alot of people really loved the game. But sadly after gun mettle the game got boring ish. no more suicide demomen or sandman guillotine scouts. Those days were super fun so much variety some weapons do 1 shot and kill u instantly but it never really mattered because everyone was having fun. Love n War was just the taunt update pretty much

I remember the final day of the Meet The Pyro update being released. I had an IPod touch and recorded the last final moments. When the count down reached zero I yelled “HAPPY PYRO MANIA.”
But now, it’s all a fraction of what it once was.
I was 12 at the time and still follow tf2 to this very day at the old man age of 22.
in 2016, we wonderd when gta 6 will come out. Now were wondering when the next tf2 update will come out.
2009 - 2014 was some of the most fun I've had in any game ever playing this. Finding a regular server with a regular group of people who play on it, going from strangers to friends. The hype of the class updates. I definitely miss those days but I'm glad I got to experience this game at its peak.
“I love tf2, and I miss it.” I think that perfectly summarizes how most of the playerbase feels. The love for the game is not gone because at its core, tf2 is still tf2. The gameplay is still there and there’s still a ton of content even if it’s not new. But it just doesn’t feel the same as it once did.

@@deathsheir2035 ComsMaster the person in charge of team comtress 2 actually used a bot to bounce from server to server counting the number of real players to bots. And even if you subtract the number of bots (which was around 30k iirc) the number of real players is still larger than its ever been.

I remember when the soldier vs demo came out. I was in a server playing dustbowl, and the teams decided that red team would be soldiers and blue team would be demomen, to celebrate the update. We were just so excited for our favorite game, so excited that we celebrated the update without even getting any of its benefits - because we were all playing on Xbox and Xbox didn't get updates.

It's just feels like walking into an old house or building you remembered. The walls and ceiling are there, yeah. But the furniture is all gone and a few lights are burnt.
It's sad and unfortunate for those big names, like you, who wanna go back to only be constant targets of harassment. For no reason at all when you're just like anyone else who wants to enjoy the game.
Maybe someday the game'll get the attention it desperately needs. Maybe I'm just deluding myself by saying that but, hey, possibility's there, slight as it is, and we can all go back to playing the way we used to if it happens.
TF2 is really hard to enjoy in its current state, though, I agree, and it's just flat out taxing, especially during the night hours in the States where bots fill up servers faster than players can.

@@shadowknight_2505 I don't really consider it a major update, nor should you. Basically none of the content in the update was made by Valve, it's almost all community stuff. Which is still nice, more maps and experimental mechanics in those maps is cool, but to me that just shows Valve still has zero desire to actually continue development in earnest for the game. The absolute most they'll do is shove content the community has made into the game without playtesting it.
Well.. the gam sorta, u know. UPDATED but nothing crazy just uhhh 14 new maps some new taunts(i think 4), new unusal effects , new war paints, and ummmmm new cozmetics
And the player count reaches a new all time high (250k as of writing this)

if they want to make the comp scene that exists right now even somewhat big, they need to rebalance nearly every item, as well as fix comp, which would be way too much effort for how shit the code of tf2 is (just look at the source code leak)
it'd be better for valve to make a new game, especially since tf2 is as old as it is, marking up to be the oldest game still running other then say, WOW.
I think the thing that makes me really sad is that the 7th comic might not release and we may never know the true story of this hat simulator.

To rehash what someone else had said before me, part of growing up and growing old is learning to accept that nothing lasts forever, and learning to let go when it's unreasonable to cling on. On the other hand, I think it'd be great to have the ability to live forever, so long as I could pull the plug when I'd finally gotten sick of everything.

I never experienced the glory of tf2 (I only played deathrun and jailbreak) but I can how awful the community feels for the downgrade it has gotten
