Although I think this concert is amazing. Texas flood definitely elevated the opinion of the rest of that concert. As a whole his Tokyo 1985 show is his best. Michael even said that himself when he reacted to it a year or so ago.
When I was 19, I didn't really listen to blues at all. @@JaredGammel Agreed that one's a great film not just a great performance. Saw it recently on a full screen showing in London. 2024 and still a full theatre transfixed.
I saw it in the theater when it was still running (usually as the midnight movie) back in 1985 probably about 6 times. We would all run around the theater for Life During Wartime. Last year for the re-release was the first time I'd seen it in the theater since then. It was fucking magical. My wife had never seen it in the theater nor had the younger friends we were there with. I think one had never seen it at all. They were all absolutely blown away - as expected. I decided that I needed to get up and run around the theater this time as well. :) No one else did, but I didn't care.
Really enjoyed this. Great picks you’ve chosen for all the right reasons. Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott’s is fantastic because of his amazing playing, the brilliant band and the intimacy of the venue. Toto Live in Paris. All brilliant, but Lukather is absolutely on fire (guitar and vocals). Nightwish, Showtime, Storytime - Live at Wacken, 2013. One of the best gigs ever recorded. The sound quality, filming, stagecraft, music, sense of crowd interaction, best singer ever - what more could you ask for.
Led Zeppelin is not my all time favorite band. But that being said, that performance at the Garden is absolutely sensational. A band at their absolute peak. I would also nominate The Who at the Isle of Wight.

Yes indeed. To see it in person, twice, was magical and awe inspiring. I could watch Tony all day, but Peter and Hamish put together an incredible “show”. Peter’s concerts have always been terrific spectacles.
This is the greatest concert film I've ever seen. I've owned it on VHS, Laser Disc, DVD and BluRay. I've converted many folks to PG with this concert. There's the EXCELLENT performance, based on the show design by Gabriel and Tony LePage. François Girard captures it perfectly. I've seen a lot of concert films, and this one is special.
The thing that always got me in Live at Pompeii is part two of Echoes, after the seagulls and the band starts filling back in to finally come back to the chorus. It fills me with some sort of emotion that I can’t explain.
Off the top of my head (I'm surely forgetting many): - Concert For George (the tribute concert for George Harrison, with an all-star band) - Stromae - Racine Carée Live à Montreal - Pink Floyd - Pulse - David Gilmour - Remember That Night (Live at the Royal Albert Hall) - Bruce Springsteen - Live In New York City (2000) - Sting - Live in Oslo 1993 - Candy Dulfer - Live in Leverkusen 2009 - Rod Stewart - Unplugged (and seated) - Dire Straits - Alchemy - U2 - Popmart Live From Mexico City
U2 Live at Red Rocks will always be one of my favorites, but I’ve got to say, though nobody ever talks about it… Richie Kotzen’s 2015 live in Japan concert is just flat out one of the best rock concerts ever recorded. Just three guys and their instruments playing great rock music. No light shows, special effects or post production. Watch the intro and the first two songs and try to turn it off.
Hands down, Joni Mitchell 'Shadows and Light' live concert from 1979. Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays, Don Alias, Jaco Pastorius and Michael Brecker. Everybody at the top of their game. Five stars out of five stars.
Michael - you set yourself apart from lots of other teachers and reaction folks in videos like this. You demonstrate an understanding of the transcendence that occurs in these moments, and do a great job of communicating the importance of that to the rest of us. Keep it up, sir - we'll be here with you :)
Always wished there was video for Waiting for Columbus. Lowell George and Little Feat were amazing. I saw Little Feat live twice, but not until after Lowell's passing.
Yeah, saw them at the Trade Hall Manchester and they were great. However, on their live performances on Electric Lycanthrope and Rampant Syncopatia they played better.
I liked SoS, but wish that complete versions of songs were shown rather than parts/highlights of them, which was disappointing considering that the performances were fabulous.
While more of a documentary of their last tour, The Tragically Hip’s Long Time Running is brilliant. Same with Pearl Jam’s Let’s Play Two (which coincidentally occurred during the Hip’s last performance. Ed made reference to it during their show). I’ve always been a PJ fan, but that just made me love them even more.
The Led Zeppelin DVD, I think it was called The Song Remains The Same, is my all time favorite. Very weird story line to go along with it ... Super cool.
Led Zeppelin at Royal Albert Hall in 1970. James Brown at Boston Garden in 1968 (the day after MLK was shot, James actually stopped a riot cold from taking place at the concert, its amazing, and its all on youtube.)
Re: James brown; the Mayor of Boston played the concert on public access television so people would stay at home rather than go out into the streets. Imagine being a young black kid in 1968 in Boston and there is an entire free James Brown concert live on tv. James Brown was the most famous American on planet Earth at the time. And the only music you'd normally see live on tv in '68 is country music and one song a week on the heavily censored Ed Sullivan show. Not only did he stop a riot before it started and save the entire city, most people watching at home had never seen live music like this in their lives. It was a pivotal moment in American music history I think that is sorely overlooked. In the wake of MLK, Brown was leaned upon as a black community leader, a role he was ill-equipped for, and it ultimately broke him.
U2 Go Home: Live from Slane Castle is up there for me... just days after Bono's dad died and he pours his heart and soul into the show.. gives one of his all-time performances at home in Ireland in front of 100,000 fans. Maybe not peak band form in terms of youthful energy and Bono's vocals, but it really was a career crescendo in a lot of ways. The setlist they could put together by 2001 was absolutely insane. A spoil of riches.
GREAT picks, Michael. The Jimi Pink Floyd and Marley would be on my top 5, too. For the sake of being different, other great 5: -SRV at El Mocambo -Allman Brothers @ Filmore East -Led Zeppelin @ MSG -Dave Matthews & Tim Reynold Live at Radio City -John Mayer Where the Light is
You've covered a song from it before but Rory Gallagher - Live at Montreux 1979. Nothing but pure energy, and the bassist Gerry McAvoy was ON IT! I live down the road from Rory's birthplace, they have a great statue in the town centre of him :)
Jimi said more with that one note than most guitar players could say all day.Jimis version of Johnny B.Good live at Berkeley is a pure beast.Lets not forget Jimis Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock or his bit of Voodoo Child at the same show. All are on CZcams
So many... Beatles - Rooftop Concert Simon and Garfunkel - Concert in the Park Eagles - When Hell Freezes Over Fleetwood Mac - The Dance (Big Love...seriously) Michael Jackson - either when he invented the robot or the moonwalk James Brown - Live 1981 Elvis - Comeback Special You mentioned Monterey Pop but specifically Otis Redding gadzooks! *Junior Wells with Buddy Guy - Live at Nightstage (Buddy Guy gives a masters class in dynamics and crowd control)
I was fortunate to see Fleetwood Mac on The Dance tour in a box section with Steve Wozniak (and others). Lindsey's performance of Big Love was and always is... just stunning. Such an astronomic talent. The vocals took 2-3 songs to warm up, but after that, the Mac was in the groove. Great show.
I saw Journey live twice on that 81 Escape tour in Detroit. That video of the entire Houston show is Phenomenal and just as great as both Detroit shows I went to. Absolutely Epic.
1- Rush - Exit Stage Left 2- Peter Gabriel - Secret World Live 3- Joni Mitchell - Shadows and Light 4- Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same 5- Eagles - Hell Freezes Over Close: Fleetwood Mac - The Dance
The Strat Pack Live - 50 years of the Fender Stratocaster. Gary Moore - Red House Live from Wembley Arena David Gilmour Hank Marvin Ron Wood Albert King And a host of other Greats!
1. Peter Gabriel “Secret World” Live. One of the best staged concerts I’ve ever seen. 2. Jacob Collier Live in Lisbon. Absolute genius in action 3. Snarky Puppy. Any of their album recording sessions (but particularly Family Dinner or with the Metropole Orkest. Next level musicianship. 4. Prince. Lovesexy tour. It’s Prince playing live… What more do you need? 5. Jethro Tull - Rockpop in Concert 1982. Check out “Locomotive Breath” - just fantastic. 6. Foy Vance at Saint Luke’s and the Winged Ox in Glasgow. Hands down, one of the best shows I’ve ever been at in my life. Just Foy with a guitar and piano - and occasional contributions from Bonnie Bishop…
SRV & Double Trouble "Live at the El Mocambo" and Van Halen's "Live Without a Net" are must watch DVD's. Stevie's playing just decimates the crowd, who clearly weren't ready to hear that brand of Texas blues come screaming out of his amplifier. I picked VH because it's mind-boggling to watch EVH run all over the stage and jump up and down for two hours, all the while nailing every tapped harmonic and playing things that I can't play when I'm sitting in my little basement studio, concentrating as hard as I can to try to pull off even some of his amazing licks.
the last waltz i think is by far the best recorded live show ive seen. so many famous people partaked and to this day its one of my favorites to watch. im glad my parents showed it to me at a young age
Gentle Giant - Live in Brussels. Michael, you’ll be blown away at the musicianship, energy and performance as every band member will switch to multiple instruments while delivering insanely complex music. You must check them out.
Great job, so hard to choose a top 5. So good to Floyd, the Wall tour was amazing live too. I'd also need Bowie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Who, Yes at Hollywood Bowl, Led Zeppelin at Knebworth, AC/DC as you mentioned too and many more tbh. Like I said, so hard this...
I fell in love with festival express. That queen performance was amazing at live aid. Also purple rain rocks. Doors Hollywood bowl. Dead Closing of Winterland , Trucking up to Buffalo and many others. Oh and The Song Remains the Same. I always had live concerts playing in my college room back in the days.
Sting- Bring On The Night, Santana- Viva Santana, Led Zeppelin- The Song Remains The Same, Frank Zappa- Live at the Roxy, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention- Live on Swedish tv 1973, Alicia Keys sings If I Ain’t Got You at the 2005 Grammys, SRV at the Elmo, Genesis- Live at Shepperton Studios 1973, The Grateful Dead -Truckin’ up to Buffalo (sentimental as it was my first Dead show, but also a ripping good concert)
Love your enthusiasm and passion, Michael. I wish Space Trucking from Deep Purple's Made In Japan album had been videoed. At the time, Purple were at the top of their game, and the performance was absolutely wild. The energy, the dynamics, the improvisation. Killer. Or (and this is a live video) Joni Mitchell's Shadows and Light show. Joni, Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, Lyle Mays, Michael Brecker and Don Alias. The whole sequence from In France They Kiss on Main Street to Hejira is stunning, magical, heartbreaking.
I 100% agree about Made In Japan. I still often listen to the CD REAL loud while driving. Talk about a band at their peak. I still feel Deep Purple circa 1972 is the best of the best in all of rock history.
1) David Gilmour- Remember That Night 2) Eric Clapton and friends -The Concert for George 3) U2 Concert at Slane Castle 2001 4) Traffic - Woodstock 94 5) Simon and Garfunkel - Old Friends Live at Madison Square Garden
I'd love to hear why The Song Remains the Same didn't get a mention. The way they took their album material in so many different creative and mutually inspred and spontaneous directions....listening to that in the late 70's rocketed ME to a level of love for the possibilities of live music very similar to the love you clearly express in your video. Zeppelin at Royal Albert Hall shows them in a very young and pre-glam and utterly powerful state. And their Knebworth show, while not universally flawless, does contain an incredibly powerful Achilles Last Stand (I defy anyone to find the tiniest trace that Bonham is within a few months of dying from alcohol...he is a TACK DRIVER), and possibly the greatest live recording of a song of all time: Kashmir. It shows a band who's survived the 70's and are still deeply, passionately in love with their music. If they had played for a month at Knebworth, had played every song they ever wrote 5 different ways (as they were perfectly capable of), and all the recording of it were lost except Kashmir, I'd still call it worth it. I feel like with the album version they told us about a mythical place called Kashmir...with this live performance they take us through the gates!!
Your knowledge, passion for the music, and enthusiastic but humble presentation make this an awesome channel. Your description of each concert video had tears coming to my eyes (I even got choked up over the list of runners up!). I am about to start a few youtube searches from this!
Stop Making Sense, The Last Waltz, Joni Mitchell's Shadows and Light, Peter Gabriel Secret World, Concert for George, Led Zeppelin Live at the O2 Arena. I saw both the Stop Making Sense and Shadows and Light tours live at Red Rocks, Colorado.
Peter Gabriel Secret World 1994 is amazing one of my all time fav's. Eric Johnson Austin City Limits 1984. And of course, one of the best live DVD's I've ever watched... Live After Death Iron Maiden 1985. And last but not least, SRV Austin City Limits. Any year and any time he was on there. SRV was, and still is, and will always be untouchable on Texas Blues.
You have great taste in music Michael. If your talking Unplugged, Queensryche did quite probably the best of all those shows. The Eagles live at the Capital Centre 1977, Judas Priest US Fest 1983, The Who at the Isle of Wight, Led Zeppelin in Australia in 1972, so many amazing performances, at Red Rocks, particularly U2. The old Midnight Special tv series, again, particularly Blondie and the Cars. The English equivalent was The Old Grey Whistle Test. A myriad of incredible artists appeared on both those shows, a veritable smorgasbord of 70's brilliance.
For me Iron Maiden - Rock in Rio, Pink Floyd The Wall, Guns N' Roses Live in Tokyo 1992, Bruce Springsteen Live in Barcelona, Pink Floyd Delicate Sound of Thunder and Pulse, and Queen Live at Wembley 1986 are great live concerts that I put high on my list as favorites. And Paul McCartney is also a great treat too. But there are of course no one who is forgotten in my book.
My top 5 in no particular order: Neil Young and Crazy Horse - Weld. Best sounding VHS ever made. My dad's still sounds PERFECT. Nirvana Live at The Paramount. Best live document of the band IMO. The White Stripes - Under Blackpool Lights. All the energy. Exemplifies why I love them. Drive-by Truckers - The Dirty South Live at The 40 Watt. The best lineup of the band playing their best material. Rush - Exit Stage Left. Just watch it
Saw the Eagles 1977 in Norfolk, and hands down "Hotel California". They had just released the album months earlier, and this was their first tour performing this song. BTW,I still have the ticket stub....$8.50 general admission !!
The Concert for George. The tribute to George Harrison is spectacular. If you need to pick one track then possibly My sweet Lord sung by the legend that is Billy Preston.
Rush R30, Portishead at Rosalind NYC, U2 Under a blood red sky, All Them Witches in Belgium, Janes Addiction at the Hammersmith, Lord Huron at Outside Lands
I know you've been getting into Grateful Dead. Some of my favorites of them are "Truckin up to Buffalo," "Crimson, White and Indigo" And "Downhill from Here." They are all from a great run in July 1989. "View from the Vault IV" from 1989 has 2 excellent shows from 1987. Love your channel!
I have to add another vote for Peter Gabriel’s “Secret World Live” concert. I wore the double album out on cassette, CD, Laserdisc and DVD. Peter’s lineup is killer; Tony Levin on all things bass, David Rhodes on lead guitar, Manut Katche killing it on drums, Jean Claude Naimo on keys, Papa Wembas and his singers on backing vocals and Paula Cole for supporting vocals and all things duet… oh yeah and the whole thing was directed by Robert Lepage. Dammit I now need to go watch it again.
Always something to discover here... thanks for making me a better human! Would have loved to see Klaus Nomi last performance of the Cold song... it's here on YT... may my little soul burn for him forever...
Excellent video!! Stevie Ray Vaughan - Live at The El Mocambo should be on everyone’s list. One listen to (and viewing of) “Texas Flood” and any person who doesn’t play guitar will instantly go to their pawn shop and buy one. It’s that hair-raising!! And you said it already, AC/DC’s “Live at Donington” is an easy winner, as well!! I won’t even mention the Ozzy and Randy Rhoads “Live at After Hours” video, because that goes without even mentioning how utterly fantastic those performances were… Great post!!
•RHCP- Slane Castle •The White Stripes- Under Black Pool Lights, and Under Great White Northern Lights •Incubus- Alive at Red Rocks •Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds Live at Radio City Music Hall •Arctic Monkeys- At the Apollo •Foo Fighters Live at Wembly Stadium
The last waltz, is the only concert movie I've ever seen. That made me feel like I was in the audience. My 2nd favorite, is live in pompei. You get to see the caterpillar transforming into the sonic, idea driven butterfly that took to the air with darkside of the moon.
OMG OMG OMG Mike..... Can't thank u enuf for this. Luv u and ur videos and channel. I'm a part time rock drummer who is feeling a bit stale with rock and pop. I'll spend the next 2 months watching all ur recommendations over and over.... and already KNOW and FEEL the INSPIRATION that is soon to be injected into my musical brain. You da man. I appreciate you and am always uplifted by your 'passion' for music.... (and Amazon boxes... HA!)
1979 or 78 Dire Straits Sultans of swing Live Alchemy. Got to say Last Waltz is my #1. Floyd is my favorite live, seen them 8 times. SRV forever double trouble. Thanks for the post. ❤

We must be from the same generation. I'm 68, I too would pick The Who at The Isle of Wight. A band at their absolute peak. Also Cream's Farewell concert at Royal Albert Hall.
The Who just HAS to make any top 5 live list, without a doubt. Had they done an entire set at The Rolling Stones Rock n Roll Circus, we’d have a, hands-down, top THREE on everyone’s list.
The Last Waltz -- is by far my favorite. I have seen it all the way through 25 or 30 times. I have seen Van Morrison and Bob Dylan segments countless times. One of my all time favorite movies -- right up there with The Godfather.
1. Zappa Plays Zappa (Live) 2008 2xDVD set. 2. Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same (Live at MSG)1976 DVD 3. The Complete Monterey Pop Festival - Criterion Collection Blu-Ray 4. Oh yea I just sub. Watching your reaction to Kendrick, I'm 67 & was a rocker till the 90's then came hip hop . Turned hip head too. Kendrick is my new fav. Enjoy watching your reactions, keep it up man. Oh yea I like Jimi's who knows a bit more. Lol 😊
Great list, Michael, can't wait to see all of these. The band that got me into Live DVD's was Dave Matthews Band. And Listener Supported is the holy grail of their collection. The 13 minute version of Two Step from that DVD is pure perfection.
@@mauritsvanderheld4417 Thats also a GREAT show, no doubt. I just liked the balance between intimacy and grandeur in Listener Supported. Weird to call a full arena intimate, but compared to the Central Park show, it is.
1) Rolling Stones Live in Texas, 1972. The film is called 'Ladies and Gentlemen'. Finally officially released about ten years ago. 2) Stax Live In Europe, 1967. Filmed by Finnish television in Helsinki. Booker T and the MG'S do a set and then they back up Arthur Conley (Sweet Soul Music), Eddie Floyd (Knock On Wood), Sam and Dave, and Otis Redding.
Great Choices here! I dont have a top 5 but there are 3 I would take to an Island with me if I a had to choose. BB King Live Africa 1974 For me this was him at his best and he had a super overpowered band... I mean a young Larry Carlton was playing Rhythm guitar for him in this. Pink Floyd Live PULSE I dont think I need to say anything one of the greatest musical performances of all time. Rory Gallagher Irish Tour 74, Okay it isnt one concert but the whole tour but its so great and kinda forgotten these days so I have to mention it. If you are a fan of blues rock and blues this is a MUST watch, will make Rory right up there with your favourite players of all time.
@Guitargate - even now there's still a Pink Floyd concert exhibition at the forum in Pompeii. Was there last year. Get on a plane and re-live it :) ...there are some ruins also if you get a spare 5 minutes after.
Just a couple of my favorites. The Allman Brothers Band 40 th Anniversary at the Beacon Theatre , David Bowie The Reality tour , Warren Haynes Band live at the Moody Theater,Jeff Beck live at the Ronnie Scott's, The Derek Trucks Band songlines live.
Stevie Ray Vaughan live at El Mocambo - what a performance

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: Live at the El Mocambo
Yes!! 1 million percent this!
Hell yeah!
One of the greatest.
I was at the El Mo for that show and it was epic! Last show I saw at the El Mo before leaving Toronto for 25 years, it was a great one.
I totally agree about Stop Making Sense and The Last Waltz, they're in a league of their own!

I would have to say the Led Zeppelin concert should have been at the top of the list.
The live footage is chopped up and poorly edited.
It’s way too edited for me.
Led Zep...Song Remains The Same and P Floyd in Pompeii are performances by people from a far far greater galaxy than our own.
Joni Mitchell Shadows and Light...Brecker, Metheny, Mays, Alias and Jaco.
Neil Young - Heart of Gold at the Ryman
Good call on Joni Mitchell.
Yes on the first one. That was like attending the best all-star game ever.
Stevie Ray Vaughan- Live at the El Mocambo
Texas Flood is a spiritual experience !!!

Thanx
S&G in Central Park is fantastic. Best version of bridge over troubled water by far.
Exit... Stage Left (Rush) is up there for me. Broon's Bane-The Trees-Xanadu is just a masterpiece in live performance
I grew up on A Show of Hands. That will always be the one for me.
Two of my favorites are Joe Cocker Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour and The Concert For Bangladesh. Defining moments in rock and roll.
Joe ROCKS - Love Leon!
Mad Dogs was one of the best tours and group of musicians ever assembled on a stage. At the end, it felt like the French Quarter after Mardi Gras....
Peter Gabriel Secret World Live - Awesome!
I think this is the video in Italy, and the audience kept one song going... I can't remember which, but it's a magical moment. Great call.

- Candy Dulfer - Live in Leverkusen 2009
- Rod Stewart - Unplugged (and seated)

- U2 - Popmart Live From Mexico City
Concert For George is just amazing. Here's an unpopular opinion, I like Delicate Sound of Thunder better than Pulse. Don't hate me 😂

Hands down, Joni Mitchell 'Shadows and Light' live concert from 1979. Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays, Don Alias, Jaco Pastorius and Michael Brecker. Everybody at the top of their game. Five stars out of five stars.
This one made my list as well. Coyote and Goodbye Porkpie Hat are the 2 real standouts for me.
This, Secret World, Band of Gypsies, Eric Johnson Austin City Limits
Absolutely 👏 Till this day, the best "sounding" band I ever heard. Musically flawless.
The Last Waltz .. The Band . Opening track , Up On Cripple Creek , what a band .
My thoughts exactly! Lost count of how many times I watched it.
Closing of Winterland

Saw Frampton when FCA was recorded in 70s, 7
Great video. If you have not seen "Summer of Soul," run -- don't walk -- to see it. Best thing I've seen in a long while.
I liked SoS, but wish that complete versions of songs were shown rather than parts/highlights of them, which was disappointing considering that the performances were fabulous.
I came here thinking Stop Making Sense and Last Waltz have to be on there and bam!
Same
While more of a documentary of their last tour, The Tragically Hip’s Long Time Running is brilliant.
Bruce and the E street band live at the Hammersmith odeon, London '75....
Yes, what a great show that is, I've watched it at least ten times since I got it.
Honorable mention that this is spinal tap
John Mayer, Where the Light Is. Absolute Banger the whole way through.
SRV live at El Mocambo is absolutely amazing.
Agreed. That’s one of U2’s finest
Crossroads 2007. Every single performance stuns. Check out EC slow clap TTB after they fire through Anyday. Can bring you to tears.
GREAT picks, Michael. The Jimi Pink Floyd and Marley would be on my top 5, too. For the sake of being different, other great 5:
-SRV at El Mocambo
-Allman Brothers @ Filmore East
-Led Zeppelin @ MSG
-Dave Matthews & Tim Reynold Live at Radio City
-John Mayer Where the Light is
Nice choices.
You've covered a song from it before but Rory Gallagher - Live at Montreux 1979.
Nothing but pure energy, and the bassist Gerry McAvoy was ON IT!
I live down the road from Rory's birthplace, they have a great statue in the town centre of him :)
recently caught Miles Davis Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970-08-29, and holy hell. rippin!
Don't leave out, Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's
The Beatles on the rooftop in Let it Be or in Get Back. Everything about the performance is iconic.
Jimi said more with that one note than most guitar players could say all day.Jimis version of Johnny B.Good live at Berkeley is a pure beast.Lets not forget Jimis Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock or his bit of Voodoo Child at the same show. All are on CZcams
So many...
Beatles - Rooftop Concert
Simon and Garfunkel - Concert in the Park
Eagles - When Hell Freezes Over
Fleetwood Mac - The Dance (Big Love...seriously)
Michael Jackson - either when he invented the robot or the moonwalk
James Brown - Live 1981
Elvis - Comeback Special
You mentioned Monterey Pop but specifically Otis Redding gadzooks!
Great show.
Great topic! Thank you!
2 of my faves:
Live Baby Live - INXS
O.A.R. - Live at Madison Square Garden
Limp Bizkit live at Woodstock 1999. Absolute chaos capturing the raw energy of 90s nu metal.
I saw Journey live twice on that 81 Escape tour in Detroit. That video of the entire Houston show is Phenomenal and just as great as both Detroit shows I went to. Absolutely Epic.
1- Rush - Exit Stage Left
2- Peter Gabriel - Secret World Live
3- Joni Mitchell - Shadows and Light
4- Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same
5- Eagles - Hell Freezes Over
Close:
Fleetwood Mac - The Dance
The Strat Pack Live - 50 years of the Fender Stratocaster.
Gary Moore - Red House Live from Wembley Arena
David Gilmour
Hank Marvin
Ron Wood
Albert King
And a host of other Greats!
1. Peter Gabriel “Secret World” Live. One of the best staged concerts I’ve ever seen.
2. Jacob Collier Live in Lisbon. Absolute genius in action
Radiohead- Astoria 94 - back when it was a 4 guitar wall of perfect mayhem ❤ Music never got better for me
My input: scorpions, world wide live; mad season, live at the Moore, and Muse live in Rome.
Ray LaMontagne's - Live From Bonnaroo 2005, and the John Butler Trio - Live at Red Rocks, are also pretty amazing.
Led Zeppelin at Madison Square Gardens 1973. I cried first time I heard Since I’ve been loving You.
Parliament Funkadelic Houston Live!
The landing of the MOTHERSHIP🔥
Widespread Panic - Light the Fuse and Get Away Live in Athens is definitely in my top 5. P Funk Live in Huston is a jewel also.
the last waltz i think is by far the best recorded live show ive seen. so many famous people partaked and to this day its one of my favorites to watch. im glad my parents showed it to me at a young age
Gentle Giant - Live in Brussels. Michael, you’ll be blown away at the musicianship, energy and performance as every band member will switch to multiple instruments while delivering insanely complex music. You must check them out.
dIRE sTRAITS "Alchemy" recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on 22-23 July 1983.
I was at Knebworth 1 and the sound mix was not great TBH. The atmosphere was insane but the music system had problems.
Festival express is GREAT!
@@GuitargateEven Buddy Guy joined in on that train.
Ac/Dc Let there be rock. Top 5 rock concert of ALL time. Amazing 1979 Paris gig. Bon Scott and The band at his best.
Bring On The Night is so good.
1) David Gilmour- Remember That Night
2) Eric Clapton and friends -The Concert for George
3) U2 Concert at Slane Castle 2001
4) Traffic - Woodstock 94
5) Simon and Garfunkel - Old Friends Live at Madison Square Garden
Another favorite of mine is Joe Bonamassa at the Albert Hall. Incredible performance. Even Clapton shows up for a guitar showdown.
Thanks to CZcams, I have been able to watch so many great performances.
My top 5 in no particular order:
Neil Young and Crazy Horse - Weld.
Just watch it
Rush in Rio 2003
YYZ is one of the most exciting things Ive ever seen in my life. Totally agree with Rush in Rio
Rory Gallagher- Irish Tour 74. Outstanding and astounding..
You are very enthusiastic. Loved it. Subscribed. Black Sabbath live in Paris
•RHCP- Slane Castle
•The White Stripes- Under Black Pool Lights, and Under Great White Northern Lights
•Incubus- Alive at Red Rocks
•Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds Live at Radio City Music Hall
•Arctic Monkeys- At the Apollo
•Foo Fighters Live at Wembly Stadium
The cure - in Orange. Amazing show, one of the best versions of A Forrest.
HA!)
I will check these out, for me would be Secret World Live - Peter Gabriela and Paula Cole.
1979 or 78 Dire Straits Sultans of swing Live Alchemy. Got to say Last Waltz is my #1. Floyd is my favorite live, seen them 8 times. SRV forever double trouble. Thanks for the post. ❤
DS Alchemy concert - they were on another planet! Sultans of Swing and Telegraph Road versions are sublime! 👌💯

The Who - Isle of Wight 1970
Rory Gallagher - Live at Rockpalast ('79 if you had to pick one out of the set?)
Jeff Beck -...live at Ronnie Scott's
We must be from the same generation. I'm 68, I too would pick The Who at The Isle of Wight. A band at their absolute peak. Also Cream's Farewell concert at Royal Albert Hall.
The Who just HAS to make any top 5 live list, without a doubt.
Had they done an entire set at The Rolling Stones Rock n Roll Circus, we’d have a, hands-down, top THREE on everyone’s list.
John Mayer - "Where the Light Is" is my personal favorite concert film of all time. Great list, Michael!
John Mayer - Where the light is live in LA is a incredible 3 set concert.
The Last Waltz -- is by far my favorite. I have seen it all the way through 25 or 30 times. I have seen Van Morrison and Bob Dylan segments countless times. One of my all time favorite movies -- right up there with The Godfather.
Total agreement, stunned it wasn’t on list over journey
Lol 😊
Pink Floyd Pulse or Dire Straits On the night are my nr 1.
Great list, Michael, can't wait to see all of these. The band that got me into Live DVD's was Dave Matthews Band. And Listener Supported is the holy grail of their collection. The 13 minute version of Two Step from that DVD is pure perfection.
I always found The Central Park Concert as the holy grail of their live concerts. But Listener Supported is great as well
@@mauritsvanderheld4417 Thats also a GREAT show, no doubt. I just liked the balance between intimacy and grandeur in Listener Supported. Weird to call a full arena intimate, but compared to the Central Park show, it is.
@@AresVaettur I guess it’s time to pop that one in the DVD player one more time 😉
1) Rolling Stones Live in Texas, 1972.
That Stones concert is them at their best. IMHO.
