I'm not knocking it as it's one of if not my #1 favorite live DVD, but there is some tricky editing and enhancing and auto-tune on Anthony's voice, and perhaps some punch-ins for the DVD that weren't actually played live. Yes they were on point, yes it was other-worldly how awesome it was, but don't be naive to think it was COMPLETELY organic. Everyone "dolls up" for lack up a better term, their official DVD releases.

gilerme nope. What you see on the dvd was exactly how it happened, with the exceptions of a few left out parts. They took a fairly long break from what I remember and Fruciante stayed out and played on his own. Maybe ten mins. The whole day was incredible, there was only one stage and the line up before them was PJ Harvey, then Queens of the Stone Age (Songs For The Deaf had just released, full classic line up there including Mark Lanegan), then Foo Fighters (All My Life was released earlier in the year and huge here in Ireland) and the Chilis came on at sunset. There were a lot of moments where the crowd was dancing and going crazy, and just stopped dead in awe at moments like the Flea/John improv. 80,000 people. Very special show, and even now when I’ve seen all the greats I’ve been able to, it still stands out.

I liked that you discussed his vocals. Something people tend to skip over unless they're really into his work. His vocal harmonies are often the most compelling thing about chili peppers songs IMO. The best vocal work is on his solo records.

It is, in my opinion that, The Red Hot Chili Pepper must tour hard in The United States when possible, after what we have, and are currently experiencing. We need their loud resounding relief.

One of the things to remember is that Frusciante improvs most of his live solos. If you listen to other live recordings such as the Live at Hyde Park album, you'll hear certain phrasing is the same but for the most part the solos and fills will be improvised. It's pretty wild! Frusciante is also a big fan of dissonance even going so far as doubling up his guitar slightly out of tune on album Stadium Arcadium. His chops allow him to really be about the "Feel".

Thanks so much for doing this inch by inch, your so good at explaining even tho my music theory is basic,(triads, chord tones,5th,sus6th 9,diminish,pentatonic)thought it would be hard in terms of techque but chili peppers each of them is just so solid ,clean sounding and their musicality is different level❤️❤️..i was college when i decided to shift from guitar to bass becoz i fell inlove with flea and his deadflat tone of bass here😍

very cool harmonic move on the bridge -- what they did is go from the key of Am/C, to the key of F#m/A (after playing a Dm), so in other words, they went to the relative minor chord (F#m) as if the song was in Amaj the whole time, a very interesting harmonic development that I had never properly analyzed -- that's why when they splash back into Am, the Bm,D,A,E acts as a pivot dominant chord because the E chord then leads back to Am (which is actually a moment of harmonic minor although Frusciante doesn't play the G# he could've)
