The show doesn't make it too clear but a durast is actually a subset of the fabrikators. Fabrikators are divided in 2 orders: Durasts who control materials and Alkemi (which we don't see in this season) who usually make poisons and other chemical concoctions. A Taylor is also a type of Grisha that is somewhere between a Corporalki and a Fabrikator and that's why they're so rare.

aleksander served many kings, he didn't hide for centuries. he faked his death a lot.
grisha have 3 orders, not 2. materialki (fabrikators) are the third order and durasts and alkemi are it's subcategories.
west ravka is trying to secede, not east. (again, sorry. this must be annoying)

I was very pleased with this season. Lot's of talking but because everything is new to me (havent read any books) i liked that. At some point i was getting a bit tired of Aleksander's monologues, especially towards the end. This didn't diminish my pleasure i had in seeing all end characters raise up against him. I had a minor quibble though, and it was about Ivan. He kept true to Aleksander till the end, but i could not understand why. The series didn't show to me why he would follow Aleksander without having any doubts about his actions.
    Characters i liked most:
    Jesper, his humor.
Mal, and how he time and time again was a friend one can only wish for.
Kaz, the actor has that cold stare yet you feel safe if you know you have Kaz on your side.
Alina for about 50% of the time. Sometimes I couldn't understand her actions and choices. I was impressed with how she decided to flee the little palace though, but when she choose Mal over the Stag i was screaming at the screen. How could she still trust Aleksander? Rather wished she didnt choose, but instead kep the sunlight shield up, while coming up with a plan.
Nina was absolutely great. I was with her through it all. Really felt for her.
Best character: Inej. Oh my god, such a beauty and complexity. She is pulled all sorts of directions by different people and motivations. Kaz, Heleen, her faith, sometimes Jesper, her faith towards saints. All they have some sort of impression on her mind. She is also very cool with her stealth skills. I was enarmored by her voice and will.

Ngl, I'm hardcore rooting for Aleksander/General Kirigan. Ben Barnes is just a really compelling actor. Did he commit mass murder? Sure. But I'm completely inclined to join him over Alina anyday lol.

It kind of made me crazy that after Kirigan killed the ppl with general Zlatan he didn’t just tell Alina that he’d sent the conductor to murder her.

Great analysis however I think you missed something or maybe didn't want to spoil it?. I haven't read the books and really only watched the last few episodes . Howeve something is definitely going on with Mal. He hears a noise no one else can hear when looking for the stag and says he has heard it before when thinking of Lina. Why can only he hear this sound and Alina's power is connected to Mal. She is forced to choose between the Stag and Mal and chooses love over power, and I think this is foreshadowing something to come????

I think they called it small science not just because of the origin, but also how BASIC these powers that they are conjuring. The Grisha right now are more like elemental user/bender instead of an actual wizards/mages. No actual spells, incantation, & master level mix powers. Compare to how Alexsander who actually did "magic" by summoning the fold from incantation & transform human into monsters from his dark elemental powers. Alexsander also the only one so far who can materialize actual dark objects with his dark slasher moves.

Alina whines just a little bit too much but other than that I loved it. Can’t wait for season 2. .. 3 and hopefully 4 lol. That ending was just.. *chef’s kiss* “Follow” 😟😟😟 I was shaking lol. Absolutely loved the Production Design of the show. The story (mostly in ep 1) is a little complicated to follow for the uninitiated.
My big problem with the story is that the secondary storyline of The Crows was the best part. Alina's story was not as compelling. The Character wasn't unique and neither did the actor bring anything new to it. I get that she is learning who she is, that's her arc but the character was so boring!!! Contrast that with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone where the protagonist has practically the same arc as Alina. That 11 year old was more interesting than the 18-something Alina.

I thoroughly dug Shadow and Bone season 1 and I didn't go into it with the highest of hope. Having seen the trailer, I thought it was just yet another YA Hunger Games grab, and the worldbuilding seemed a bit intimidating. I was wrong. The worldbuilding in the first episode was huge, but with subtitles on, it was pretty simple to get. Alina falling for Alexzander almost immediately after we were shown her lifelong love bond with Mal (browncoats unite) was the only sticking point for me, as it was so quick, and so contrived, and so damaging to her character. Other than that, not being a book wanker, I thought S&B was a treat.
